Teuf's SAS thread 88 toyota PU 22r-e

My journey has begun. I have pondered an SAS for a long time. The axle I have was out of a neighbors 83 pu, when I lived in NH. So it has moved a lot in 10 years. Now that I can weld I am diving in, plus I finally saved enough. So here goes.
Truck 1988 PU 4 cyl 22r-e, as it sits now, 3' rancho lift F&R
281,952 K miles, 33/10.5/15 BFG's. Although i will keep the 33's for a bit longer I am thinking of going to 5.29's in anticipation of eventual 35's, we will see. My SAS is a 3 incher. 5' shackles in the rear should keep it level.Name: TRUCKRED-1_zpsd36963cd.jpg

I will be watching this now that my truck is running I want to do this next winter because winter here is like 80 today it is 94 summer is like 115 me no work out side. That is a great looking truck what is your goal rock crawling or just better off roading any ways good luck being able to weld opens up a whole new world of things to do.

Thanks Tom
I think general off-roading some rock crawling. And or my
ifs needed overhauling so i decided an SAS was a good way to avoid that mess.
you know and I know solid axles are kinda cool.

Looks like I need to replace the shock mounts. Looks like say the creeper knuckle ball gusset kit. The Knuckle pitting I think I will use jb weld and then super smooth then paint? We will see.Name: IMG_1588_zps4fbb0a2a.jpg

Not sure if you think you'd need it, but there's also Marlin's knuckle gusset kit
http://www.marlincrawler.com/axle/fr...kle-gusset-kit

I went with it just so I wouldn't need to weld more on my axle if I started doing more extreme wheeling and went hydro assist later.

Thanks, That gusset kit I have seen. That goes over my budget a tad. I may and try to fab something up instead.

Looking good so far. Those hubs look like they were packed with mud instead of grease. Cant wait to see the rest of your progress.

The truck they came from had been damaged in a fire. The carcass sat in a field for about 3 years, then I traded a dead cherokee for the remains / the axle is what i wanted.

This afternoon it will be 24 hour cure time for the JB weld. I will finish the surface at that time.

And as a gift to my truck I made a little plaque for her. Not sure where to put it.
