I wont be getting it painted this week. Several things had come up and didnt get to finish all of the sanding that I would of like to. All in all, I am really happy at how smooth the body is.
I am working on a couple of paint chips and scratches. I pulled the chrome off of the fender wells and found a small crease behind one of them. So guess it is a good thing to get a little more time on it.
Did get the top off of it. I want to start getting it prepped. It looks to be in really good condition, and feel it will go quick.
I think I will paint it with it off of the truck. Think it will be easier to paint the shell and easier to get the cab of the truck.

It might be a bit longer on painting this thing. I have an oppurtunity to split the cost of a 4Runner with a friend that would have several parts I dont have and would pay for themselves real quick. It is rusted way beyond any repair. I hate parting one out, but there is no saving this one. There will go the painting money. Will have to wait and see.
I do have another issue to work on. The rear bumper is bent in. I was going to take this off when I paint to get better access to the lower side. I will find something to keep working on.
Might even have to get back on my backglass issue. I have been putting it off, but with the top off it sure makes getting to.
While it is off, I am going to insulate the floor with sound deadner.

Finally got around to reading your build thread, Terry. You have way more patience than I when it comes to body work, and judging from the pics that patience pays off. I'll be following as often as time permits.

Hello Jason., Thanks for checking in. I got tied up on a few things and havent gotten to do a whole lot of work on the Runner. I did get a few scratches taken care of have been going all over the body, just been going over it real well.
I am hoping to get it in primer soon. Did put the top back on as we are getting a lot of rain. Trying to get the interior cleaned up, but it is going to need to be replaced later on. It will be the last on the list though.

Hello Dutchbelly, your truck does look alot like mine. Thanks for the compliments on the body work. I started out slow on it and it is coming back to me. It had been a while since I had done any body work so I was a little rusty.
I actually enjoy doing body work, should of seen some of my other projects I had started with. But it is like any other skill, you get faster at it.

Have been busy for awhile. But I did get a couple of things done. My Spare Lift Assembly wasnt working so spent quite a bit of time getting it cleaned up and it lifts great now. Cleaned it and oiled it real good and run it through several cycles.
I worked the tire down a couple of links by going back and forth. Then I was able to get a pry bar and compress the spring that holds the tire and work it through the center of the wheel and let it drop. After that I soaked it with PB Blaster and started working it with my jack handle and until it broke loose and cycled several times til it was working great and then oiled it heavily.

Been working on the dreaded Tailgate. I oliled all of the metal tracks and cleaned all of the gears. I think the best thing I did was to put Silicon in the tracks and that made the biggest difference. The motor was reall struggling to get the window up. Works like a champ now. Realy would suggest spraying your tracks with this stuff if you are having problems.
Just got to get my switches working. I am going to replace the relay box behind the Drivers seat and think that will have my rear window working again. I am currently just hot wiring the window for now.

Have been getting the under carriage cleaned up and it is coming along. Will get pictures up when I get it finished. Its looking better.
Tuesday I get an alighnment. Things slowed down a little bit, but I hope to get things moving again. Supposed to be picking up some parts maybe later this week. So that will be putting of painiting for a while. Im just gald to be working on it again.

Looks good! Re: your spare tire assembly, how the heck did you get the spare off in the first place? I'm in the process of cleaning and painting my under carriage too and tried to put some PB Blaster on it but the spare is jacked so close to the body I couldn't get to the top part at all. I'm thinking of cutting the chain and piecing a new one in there.

I've had to work on the back window on every 4runner I've owned; I feel your pain. I once pulled apart the whole tailgate, replaced the motor, oiled up the gears and tracks as you have, only to have the window not work later that week. I pulled it apart again, found nothing wrong, put it back together and realized the only reason it wasn't working was my rear window wiper wasn't in it's full off position.
Looking forward to seeing paint, and keep up the good work.

Yeah. My back window works fine with the key. The console switch will put it down but not up. I suppose it's just a dirty switch. If I ever get a Softtopper it won't matter anyway. Over Christmas I thought it would be brilliant to hide Santa's haul in the truck because it was taking up a lot of the garage and we weren't driving it. There were a couple of really big items that could only come out through the tailgate. Christmas Eve the tailgate wouldn't come down! I even reseated the wiper! Then I just leaned up and pushed a little on the tailgate and it came right down. I guess it was not shut all the way. Whew!

Hello Nervo... It was a pain to get to the tire assembly. I took a small can of WD-40 and got it as best as I could. Then I was able to lower the tire low enough to pry and pull til I got the tire out of the way.
It was still a bear to operate but I was able to get it with PB Blaster and let it soak for a few days and after that I kept working the assembly til it worked its way smooth.
If you can get the tire out of the way, there are 4 bolts that I think you could get a wrench in between the frame and body and get it out. It would be a slow process.
On a pickup, when I have the bed off I take it out that way and let it soak really good.
I getting closer on getting the window, still not there. There has got to be an easier way. I might start checking into it.
Thanks for checking in.

I made some progress on my rear window. I replaced the Window Relay switch and had the rear wiper working and the window would go up. I have been checking all of the wires and connections.
Everything was going great, until I tried to roll the window down and that is where things have stopped. I can hear the relay click when I push the up button, but nothing on the down button.
I would like to think that maybe it is the switch. Dont know if I could be so lucky. But I have another switch I will try and see if it works. That would be great. Getting closer.

I have been saving to go in with a friend on a rusted up 4Runner and I could use several parts off of it. We are going to look at it today or tomorrow. So for my cheap progress, I have been cleaning the underside.
I get part of cleaned and then I rattle can prime then paint. I eventually will be working under there and geting things cleaned sure make it easier.
Too bad I didnt have a before picture.
