NICE WORK, MAN! You're a dynamo, aint ya!?!?!?! lol.
I'm finding the same thing with seat repair, etc., that you'd mentioned.... 300$ or so to reupholster and repair the frame damaged DRIVER SEAT, ONLY! lol. The passenger seat is fine, NOTHING wrong with it... but still, 300 DOLLARS??????? I know, it's very reasonable for upholstery, ...but MAN! lol.
Can't wait to see a walk around video, Terry!

Hello 92..The boot is new. I got it off of ebay. Starting to wonder when it is going to show up. I will post it when it shows up.
I got a kick out of knowing your truck well. Got me remembering when I helped this guy on his 87 extra cab. He actually thinks I am a pro.lol..I think it was lucky guessing. I was able to show him a few things and now he calls when he has a problem. He bought it new and 130k miles. I said that truck is still young.
It is nice knowing about your own truck, when I work on someone elses, I am always afraid that if it can go wrong it will on me.
Hello Chef.. I think the seats are going to be an issue. I am going to a few other towns and see what I can find. I will see if I can get a video, I am still in the stoneage. Also waiting for seat covers. Got to get some longer screws to finish the tailgate panel.
Hello reb4x4..Your first post was on my thread. Thanks.. Welcome to Yotatech. This is a great site for us Yota nuts. There are some really great people on here and every different build exist here. I looked at your profile and may have missed your truck. Feel free to post it on my thread. I always like seeing what others have. My builds are the basics, and try to keep them affordable within reason. I just try to get something done every day or so and even if it is small, it still a step closer. Welcome again to YT.

Been working on getting my tailgate covered. Need to get some longer screws as the carpet I am using is thicker then what I had before. The person who did the black was actaully did a great job. Hope mine turns out as well as his did. I got the panel out of the bone yard.

Things dont always go so well. Here is the piece I used for the tailgate. Orginally I had cut it for the trunk area, but in the very back it was to narrow. Luckily I got and extra 6 feet as that is the only way the carpet dealer would sell it. It worked out.

Here it is finished. Need some longer screws. Got started on some parts on the 83. The crossmember, but a start.

hey man....is it the GATOR BOOT (or "top Gaitor???")....here's the one I have marked for Joe----->>>> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
anyways..that tailgate piece was massively messed up on Joe's, and I got a replacement one that is better but still not perfect. actually to whole setup is pretty wimpy and I may end up doing something down the road using a different material altogether. just sitting on it creeps me out thinking I'm gonna pop the window. I've thought of diamond plate, but that is cost-prohibitive.
be careful on the screw length....it's a tight squeeze in there. just mounting his license plate was a PITA because I had to trim the length because the plastic screws contacted / obstructed the window.

Thanks 92.. I need to work on one of my license plate screws. So I will make sure I pay extra attention when I get in that area. I have one that is missing the entire screw assembly. Just one holding it in there. I just keep putting it off.
That is the shifter cover I have ordered. Still havent gotten mine yet and it should be here. I thought I had ordered it sooner, so it is my fault.

I got my seat covers in and not happy with the color. They are what they were advertised to be. Just a brigher red then what I have. I am going to try and dye the red a little darker and see how it comes out.
Checked with another interior shop and he wanted $800 to do my seats. That is the third one at that price range. Thats not going to happen at that price. The $400 is starting to sound good. I was thinking $250-300. I am still shopping around. This may be a while, but I am not going to give up.
I finally got all of my towing stuff hooked up and working. I still need to get an exhaust hanger welded back up, but it is done. I have been doing a lot of towing since getting everything working. Really need to do the V6 brake upgrade.
I took the boat and went 35 miles one way throught some twisty, hilly, 2 lane roads and the runner did great. Need to get my low range working. The boat ramp is steeper then it looks and the ramp was slick so had to use 4 wheel to get up the ramp.
My dumb butt left the live well open and it took on quite a bit of water and with the weight of the boat and extra water, I really had to give the clutch a work out. Low range would of been sweet.
This is the longest towing I had done with it and with the new hitch assembly it was so nice. Rode great. Just have to give a little more attention on the braking. I have trailer brakes on my 01, but the boat doesnt have trailer brakes, so wouldnt accomplish much any ways. Other then the braking, it really went well.

But I'm grateful, .....been here 10 years, .... raised both my daughters here before they went out on their own, etc.... So WHATEVER I can do, ya know?

Hello Chef..When you lose your health, you really have lost everything. Hopefully he will get well and back on his feet. I know a guy that can do just about everything he sets his mind to and has accomplished alot in his life and now his health is failing. His wife is the greatest. She has stood by him through everything. Doesnt seem fair.
When I lived in San Diego, I had a mexican friend and he drove my 68 Mustang (in primer) into Tiajuana. He was from there so he knew how to get around. Never again for me. Just the ride in mexico was enough for me.
I have driven on the Auto Bahn and third world countries and never will I take another car down there. It was an experience.

I just wanted to do a summary on where I started and where I am now. When I got the runner it was advertised as a parts truck or for rock crawling. It was advertised as needing a fuel tank and pump. When I got the tank in and tried to crank it, it turned half of a turn and then stopped. I pulled the plug and it was full of antifreeze. Wound up needing a head gasket.
The interior was ragged out. Passenger door panel was ripped, missing the passenger side panel and side pocket doors. Most interior parts were faded. The carpet was faded and ripped or rotted.
Had cat fur and cat pee in it. It stunk. The back glass had been broken out for a year or two and had moss growing in it.
I really wish I had taken some better pictuures of it and mostly because I was embarrassed about the the condition of it but hope this gives some ideas of how it was when I got it, and through out the thread you can see parts of it in pictures.
I got the truck as a project for me as I had wanted a first gen for several different reason. Need another family truck, one I could work on to increase my experience level, one that I wouldnt have to send to the shop everytime something went wrong and saving hundreds in mechanic bills, and just because it is my hobby. I will always be working on something.
Check out my 83 build.

I have tried to make this thread as useful as possible. Starting on page one, you will find how I went and fixed different things. I have gotten alot of comments or PMs saying how it has helped. I really appreciate the comments. Glad it helps. I tried to keep my fixes free or cheap.
Some of the fixes like my fuel pump/gas tank, headlight switch, ENG Fuse, are some of the ones I can recall there are others. Alot of people cuss the backglass. I am not a pro, but I am not intimidated by it at all. This is one I was worried about but figured I would just jump in and see what I could do. Wasnt going to make it any worse.
Up to this point I have done everything myself. My wife helped put in the fuel injectors in the rails and the kids helped take out some bolts. Out side help has just been getting tires balanced, head work, and alighnment. But otherwise it was just me.
Some other work that will require help will probably be AC and getting the seats and maybe the Transfer case put in. After that the wife will have some add ons that I may not be able to do and as funds permit.
I havent had a car payment in about 5 years. We were haing some finacial tough times and I convinced the wife that I could make a nice second vehicle for alot cheaper then a good used car and its payments. Doing my part in putting the repo man out of business. It is finally stating to pay off, by using what we would spend in payments, finanally getting to a comfortable spot, slowly but surely. Not there yet, still have other fires to put out.
The 22re trucks can be really easy and affordable to work on and dependable. I have a 3.4 and had a 3.0. Those are great motors, but arent as easy on gas or maintance in my opinion.
For what I got in this truck is less then most payments and less then a year. It is fun to drive and is dependable. I bought it with 268,000 miles and it is now at 296,000 miles. Only problem so far has been when I knicked th injector O-ring and had a major fuel leak and had to be towed home. (2nd time ever in my life) It was my fault. The longest one day trip was 450 miles in a day. I would trust this truck to go from California to Pennsylvania. (hehe)
I am still trying to get it polished back up and get some good pictures of it. I take care of it but the bugs, road grime and nearly 30,000 miles, it has taken it toll.
I have $3260 into at this point and rounded up in some cases so I am not for off and list it below. Pretty much bumper to bumper, top to bottom as I mentioned at the start of this thread.
Once I get the AC,Tcase, and seats done, it will be finished but moves from the "Build/Restore" to the IMPROVEMENT thread.Wahoo!!! This thread wont die and go away, just may slow down.
So many helped with encouragement and advice and I dont want to mention names to as to many to list, but you know who you are. THANKS,THANKS,THANKS!!!

I listed my 86 parts truck and if I can get a title from the PO or I can come up with a way, I really think I could have my favorite color 4Runner going for $1000.
It was a cost in the 88s build so I still listed it. When I used parts off of it, I removed them carefully and have all of the parts from the gray rust bucket that was beyond repair to get the 86 going.
Just need that little piece of paper and Missouri is a pain to get a title for. I am not giving up.

Thanks...I got it from http://www.stockinteriors.com/. It was $140 for the seat areas and that was with shipping I think. The trunk area actually cost more. It is expensive if you buy all 3 pieces. (2 for front,1 for trunk)
On the trunk area I got some indoor/outdoor carpet. It is like normal carpet, but has like a plastic lining on the back.
Looks like you got a sharp runner. Welcome to Yota tech.

Nice Plate holder! lol.... Nothin like a Fo'Sho'Runner! lol. Any updates other than that?
Far as the AC, ....my OEM drier was 40$ or less from dealerdirectparts.com . My Denso O-rings were mostly free, and some I got at the dealer(the Aqua ones for R12) for 1.50$ each. The R12 was around 25$ a 14oz. can(takes 2) plus 25$ for 2 - 4oz. cans of R12 Oil... I think I got all 4 cans for 80$ or so? So, you're talkin 125$ or so with Drier just to do it R12 style WITHOUT the Compressor... which I've heard you can get reman'd for around 275$ for a 'pretty good' one with a decent guarantee. BUT,.... gotta check to see what seals/gaskets you'd have to change if you go R12. Dealer also had all the 134 Seals, too(brown).
Quite a list you got done, BTW~!
Far as the seats.... YEAH, I know! lol. My best quote was 350$ for the drivers cuz of the pretty decent repair it needs.... And 300 for the passenger. I just CAN'T JUSTIFY IT, Terry, ya know? I got both tC seats(REALLY comfy) for just over 100$..... and the hardware I'll need to get em in(if I can EVER get started ,lol) was around 25$(Box Tube with pre-drilled oblong holes. As long as they work, I'm happy with that, for now.... just to be COMFY! lol. Just promise me you'll 'TRY OUT' the 90+ Seats before you buy them? You're probably not as big as me, but still..... they're NOT as comfy as ours, trust me! lol.

Hello Chef..I still have some things I want to get done on it. Things have come to a stop for a little bit. We are putting a beef in the freezer and deer season is opening up and need to get 3 deer in the freezer. It cost upfront but saves alot on down the road.
This week the house furnace is acting up so have to get it fixed and the kitchen stove is being a pain. I have put enough new parts in it to start a build thread. Urggh
Those AC parts are cheaper then what I have found so I will start to collect those pieces a little at a time. I keep thinking I will get all of the other things done, fixed and seems like it is a never ending battle. I keep thinking next week or month is when nothing breaks.
We cant justify spendng that kind of money on seats either. She is seeing if one of her friends can do the seats, and we are looking into doing them ourselves.
For now I have just been doing the elbow grease things on the 83. Rattle can paint, bondo, cleaning. All free stuff so that when things work out I can get after it full speed. Things like that have to be done anyways so when funds get tight it actually works out quite well. Still dont like the tight funds, but try to make the best of it.lol
Jason..You arent doing it right. You get her the truck and then tell her you have to fix this or that and later on you suggest that she needs this or that. lol...Works for me.
