RMP8080 showed a way of getting to the bolts thru the shifter hole. Dont know if it would work on a V8, bu just in case you ever need to get at them, it might be a way. I wouldnt of thought of it. It is on his runner build and was a recent post if I remember right.

Racer,I dont know about where Ed lives, in Yakima, but here where I live you can get a ticket if your shirt is too loud.Ed are you going to go with a loud exhaust? I think im going to use 3 inch single exhaust, and try to fit 3 really good mufflers.I like mine SBD.

Ha, ha, I don't have a stereo in my runner, so I should be good to go with open headers, lol

Thanks for the info Terry. I saw Bill's thread, that was a good idea! On my bellhousing I can actually get to all of the bolts with a boxend wrench, I just couldn't get the bolts into place due to the extra length of the bolts due to the thickness of the bellhousing flange, there just wasnt enough space between the firewall and the bellhousing. That's why I had to lower the front of the tranny down (the crossmember was still bolted in place) just to get the long bolts started in the holes before bolting it up to the motor.

Hey Brian, my exhaust isn't super loud, its got a good rumble to it, I'm running dual exhaust (2" pipe) with 2 older style flowmasters...I'm just reusing what was on the 85' pickup, just shortening it to fit. A single 3" would be cool, with 3 mufflers it should be pretty quiet... sorry, I'm horrible with abbreviations, not sure what SBD stands for, lol.

Ed,if you have made it this far with no body lift you are doing good.I have herd doing a v8 swap without one is very difficult.I got metal and my tools back today.I should be back working on mine tomorrow.

Looking back, I wish I had a body lift, swapping the 302 in probably would have been a lot easier, lol.

Silent but deadly, I knew it had to be something like that, lol. I like that idea, kinda thought about doing a single exhaust myself, kinda the hotrod "sleeper" concept...I might change my exhaust later when I have more $$$. The 5.0 badge on my tailgate is probably a dead giveaway anyhow! LOL. Yeah the PO of my 85' pickup didn't have a body lift either, so I knew it could be done, it was challenging tho!
Glad you got your welder and tools back, look forward to an update and some pics of your build!

I got a little done yesterday, I got the wiring to the alternator swapped off the 85' pickup and onto the 4 runner. The wiring had already been lengthened to move the alt from the driverside to the passengerside. I also got all the fuel lines swapped over for the Carb, it routes the fuel line from the passengerside firewall up and over to driverside to the mechanical fuel pump. I got the the exhaust started, put in the new collector gaskets (total PITA on the passenger side with all the brake lines bolted to the frame right in the way). Now I need to find a hotwire from the ignition to run to my starter, I don't remember if the original wire was part of the EFI wiring harness that I unplugged and sold. Can anyone tell me where the ignition relay is located? If I remember correctly I think its on the passenger side under the dash. I will probably just run a hot from there to my HotShot starter relay that I already have.

I did a little touchup painting on the lip of my hood, its not a perfect match, but I wanted to take care of the rust before it got any worse, the only other rust spot is a little spot by my driver side mirror.

Its close enough match for me, the rest of the hood and 4runner is nice enough, I don't plan on doing a full paint job for quite awhile.
I have to finish helping my bro-in-law move out today so wont get to work on the runner until tomorrow.

Dont blame you on wanting to stop the rust.

Do you mean the starter relay? It is located on the passenger fender. Behind the Passenger speaker is the Circuit Opening Relay that is part of the fuel/ignition system if that is the one you were asking about.
Starter Relay

Circuit Opening Relay, behind passenger speaker.

scratch some stuff off the list...

Thanks for the pics Terry, I I figured out how the PO wired his starter, he came directly off the starter relay plug and ran it down to the starter, I think that's what I'm going to do.

1. Still waiting on throwout and pilot bearings, should have shipped yesterday, then I can finally get the clutch in
2. Finish hooking up fuel lines and install skid plate for gas tank, route rubber fuel line to the fuel pump and up to the carb
3. Swap the throttle cable off the 85'
4. Still need to grind a little off my calipers (I could grind some off the knuckles, but I'm to scared I'll mess up) and drill out the mounting holes and get new bolts to mount the calipers, hook up the brake lines, bleed the brakes.
5. After I get the clutch in and the motor in for the last time I'll get the starter, slave cylinder, and miscellaneous hoses hooked up.
6. Still need front shocks, and to weld in my shock hoops.
7. Need to finish the exhaust
8. I need to Fab up some brackets for the PS pump
9. Modify/lengthen front driveline
10. Wire up t-stat/relay for electric fans
I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, I'll edit And update as I go.
I had to help my bro-in-law move most the weekend, finally got to work on the 4Runner today, I got #1, #2, #3,#5 all done on my list. I'm pretty confident that I will get her fired up tomorrow!

She's Alive!!!

Well I got her fired up today!!! Finally was able to hear it run after nearly 3months of working on it. I had to do some modification on my bottom radiator hose. The outlet on the water pump was a lot bigger than the one on the Toyota radiator, so this is what I came up with.

^^^I took two peices of pipe, and sleaved the smaller one then welded it up allowing me to connect the two different size hoses together...so far its working, no leaks. Tommorrow I need to figure out what's up with my clutch, tried bleeding it a couple times, it feels like its got enough pressure, I can see the slave push in on the clutch fork, but I can't put it in gear, it wants to grind. I also need to finish the exhaust (although I like the sound of no mufflers, lol) and still need to wire up the electric fans and some other small stuff.
