Yea, Jason the guy a got the 87 pickup told me that the last number of toyota's his sold was to a guy from Guatemala and he get a Delaware temp tag drives them to Wilmington De and ships them down south. That why the older toyota's are hard to find here, That's one of the reason I picked up the runner....

Great thread - you're coming along quick!
I'll add some comments on the transmission since I just replaceed mine. I was quoted $60 to refinish my flywheel, but found a SACHS unit at the auto parts store NEW for $50. I went new.
You may want to rplace your flywheel bolts - LCEngineering.com sells them by the set - WAY cheaper than the dealer.
For the top two bellhousing bolts, my buddy and I used about 4 feet in extensions on our 1/2" ratchet - he held it on the bolt, while I sat back behind the transmission, and cranked the ratchet. Earlier, I'd used flex extensions and did it by myself (I have no idea how I did!).
Oh, on the flywheel, like cef says, keep it clean - give it a good shot of brake parts cleaner before you put that clutch on.
Assume you've done a clutch before and know about the alignment tool, torquing to spec in a star pattern, etc?

Hey Phil!
Always like seeing you post.... it's like I haven't seen you in months!......even though I've never TECHNICALLY seen you? hehe....
I also like to mention what I did on the top two bell housing bolts with a decent angled 17MM open-closed end wrench and a couple taps of a hammer. I just held it on the bolt and then rapped it up top at the open end of the wrench and VOILA, they popped right free after a couple taps.... Once I got them loose a lil bit, I used an angling headed socket wrench and sometimes a ratcheting open-close end(LOVE those freakin tools! lol)... by the time it was 1/4" out I could turn it by hand pretty easy(Trick was doing THOSE BOLTS FIRST when removing the motor... Going BACK in, .... obviously last, and after making sure a few of the others are 'JUST' in, and a few of those are tight once you can feel the top two are doing in fairly easily.... I COULD NOT, with stock lift, etc., get the socket and extensions to work from under/back. But from the top? Cake! You can also slide a 'just right sized' open end over the open end of the angled wrench when breaking them free and put pressure against it and then tap it free(OK, SMACK IT good a couple raps! lol).

Thanks guys
, I lowed the rear of the transfer case and it give me the room to remove the automatic, the 5 speed was not problems I believe the bell housing is smaller.
It's all in, I started removing all the body bolts today and it's hot here so not much completed I will get the 2inch lift and new bushing in before I run the lines for the clutch, more room to work.
I have to rewire the ECM for a manual, I think that maybe easy...lol
It's only been around 3 months on the build.
going real well, I think.
Some of you guys have done more work in shorter time, but I love all the builds on this site. I truely like many of the runner builds got a lot of great ideas, my 4runner follows a lot of RMX's 4 runner build (thanks).

I think the rewire of the ECM is just grounding one out, not sure which one, but supposed to be easy. You have made alot of progress in 3 months. Little by little it all adds up, just keep at it and it will be done before you know it. It is quite satisfying. Hang in there.

That did jump the height up. I hear it is toasty back up there. The heat can make it a little rough to work on. You are making some progress and has come along way since you got it.

Lol what does ur wife say about it?
Oh nice that's what I have waiting for my truck. Already have the tires. 33/12.5/15 are a really nice beefy tire size. Unfortunately they won't fit my truck right now cuz its too low but when I get the sas and lift it is gonna compliment the truck very nicely. I just posted some pix of them the other day on my thread. Set of 5 Sport King Tires.

With the temps over 100, that did not stop me from killing myself and worked on the runner. First, all the body bolts secured to the frame.
Next removed the radiator, being replaced.

Started looking over the clutch parts, these pics are from the 87 pickup....

Now from the runner (it did have a automatic)
