got a whole rack of them...at work of-course.lol

All Toyotas from 1985 IIRC. Maybe even earlier.

I used to work for a German repair shop working on VWs (I loved it, but boss was...not the best), and now since early August, im at the local Toyota stealership. Its only 6-7 miles from my house, so the commute and savings on gas is a relief.

Glad to see you making some progress on the runner. Having access to all of the books and some of the experience at the shop is a goldmine in itself. Hope the switch works out great for you going from German to Japanese. They all have a little different way of thinking but gets the job done. I used to work on German equipment and they like to have parts done to the smallest possible piece from my experience.

Yea, they like to do things in a bassakwards way just to be better than anyone else. IMHO, german cars are built better for the fit and finish, yea they might not last as long as a Toyota, but they feel so much better driving and the feel of them is better.
If you were looking for a car to just drive to work, I would say Toyota...but a car to actually drive drive, any of the top german brands (VW, audi, merc, bmw, etc...). Yea the older ones do have issues and I wouldn't put anyone through the experience of a mid 90s to a early 2000s german car, but now the new ones..by far the best all around vehicles on the road.

Well, made some progress FINALLY. It was actually not that bad out after I got home from work. And i actually had the ambition to do something.

Installed the slave cylinder and ran the clutch line. Bled the system and it works flawlessly!

Here is the fresh/new intake boot.LOL Slightly longer than the original piece, but same P/N. But it fit so who cares.

A better picture of the aluminum radiator.

And the entire engine bay, its not like nobody knows what they look like.

I also found the starter bolts and started the threads, never got around to tightening them completely, I had a BMW brake job to take care of

So, im going along, slowly but surely. I found bushwacker fender flares (the cut out type) for dirt cheap on summit racing. Ive decided to go with them instead of getting new quarter panels. And just replacing the fenders in the front and add the flares after. Literally the only thing holding the fenders together is that chrome arch molding. haha

Next step is to finish with the starter and see if she will start like the way she is. Hopefully tomorrow is ok, but this weekend, 60*+ weather. Cant wait.

did some more work today since it was pretty nice out again. Plus i was able to leave early from work, so that is always a plus.

I ended up finishing the install of the starter, so thats now all tight. Pushed it outside to get another good look at it. Never seen it out of the garage with the 31's and body lift....i love it.lol

I installed the rear drive shaft, i have yet to find the front driveshaft from the old IFS pickup frame.

Hooked the battery up and was going to see if was gonna start.....nope need to find the ground out for the PNSW. Im getting too far ahead of myself.

More updates here soon!

I have a 89 4Runner and am also planning on changing out the automatic for the manual, What are some of the major things i should be concerned with? I ma having my father in law's mechanic help me with the actual swap out but I want to do as much as I can on my own first, seeing as he charges by the hour.

YotaChick: Which windows? If you're talking about the L trim on the outside of the canopy it's removed from inside. A FSM would help. If you search my name for posts I posted a link for the FSM via "wayback machine" a while back. Put it on a memory stick because it's about 2500 pages. '89 4Runners are the same as '88. But I think the steering pumps are different or maybe that's just mine.

If you are talking about the trim around the windshield, it is a bear. I just let my local windshield shop do it and they still have a tough tme with it.

If you are talking about the trim on the cap, below im my signatures, either the 86 or 88 runners build threads, I have it listed in how to remove the L trims. Look on the first page of eihter build and go by the post number.

Page 59 #1167 Removing "L" Trims. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post52080046

I posted a link to it.
