RMP8080 89 4RUNNER Resurrection Buildup
Well while I wait for the V6 4.3 re-build, I'm starting a new Build in my recent find a 1989 4runner SR5.
All it needs is for the transmission to be replaced, I'm using one of the extra manual from the 87 pickup build.

Thanks rustEDyota, for now swapping the automatic with a 5 speed manual.
Once that done, body work on the fenders, will replace the fronts with new ones and the rears will be body filler and metal.
2 inch body lift, it's will not be used for heavy wheeling, that what I got the 87 Pickup for...LOL. keeping it IFS.
Oh, rear springs or low, have to work on that some how.
Got the 4runner for $300 and the transmission I already got, and the tags are good until July 12.

The truck looks amazingly orginal and other then weather and age it is actually in great condition as all parts are there no shade tree mechanicing. Nice find. One task at a time and you will get there.
racerflea..89, Toyota changed the truck style and was considered a 3rd gen truck and a 89 runner is considered a 1st gen runner. It was a little unusual, but the 90 model trucks and runners are very similar and have a lot of interchangeable parts.

Just doing some catching up. Glad to help on the trim info. I havent got to try it myself so it makes me a little worried. I like it when I can mention it from experience.
The warm weather is great and hope it holds out for you up there. It is so much nicer then messing with these in the cold.
Been doing a little studying up on the Jetta diesel. They get good reviews and was talking to a diesel nut. He was saying those Jetta TDI are great. My long term goal is to put a diesel in mine. Any year you would recommed or info you got I would greatly appreciate.
Hope your weekend treats you well.

Terry, the VW diesel 1.9 TDI is the one I have in the jetta, 2000 to 2004 are your best to use, the newer TDI Diesels will only use the so called clean diesel fuel. You can't use veg oil from mcD's. I think there is a guy on Yota tech with a 1.9 TDI swap. I too want to do a diesel swap, or get one of those Canada Toyota, or a OM617 5 cyl

I didnt know there was a difference, I am wondering if it was because of the trucks changed that year and some reason they didnt catch on to it. Really no help, and I have only seen on 89 and didnt see any major changes on it.
I will try and pull a lower mount off of my 88 tomorrow and post a pic.
