Hey guys the CBI website finally replied to me with more information on that CBI Do it yourself bumper. I sent him this email.
Hi my name is Richard. And I own a 1989 1st gen Toyota 4runner soon to have a solid front axle installed. I am very interested in your CBI DIY front bumper but I noticed you only have the one picture and absolutely no information on it.

I'd like to know if its possible for you to email me more pictures on this bumper mounted onto that model 4runner. Tell me what's included in the deal such as lights, instructions, bolts etc or if Id have to buy anything extra like the rear bumper for this truck requires. Also just out of curiosity, I'd like to know what the cost would be as a grand total with shipping included to deliver to my address if possible. (removed address for privacy reasons)

I'm not in a huge hurry to purchase the bumper yet because I still have other "bigger" jobs to do to this truck still, but please get back to me with more info and pictures and Id greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time - Richard

Then he replied with this:
Hi Richard,

I apologize but it appears that I never responded to your email. Here is the information that you requested.

The DIY front bumper comes with all of the cut and bend parts you need to build the bumper yourself. This includes LED turn signal lights, mounting hardware, and d-ring tabs. The tubing on top is extra if you want that and it is $29.99 for the center grill guard and $34.99 for the headlight protection. The bumper does come with instructions also as to how you can build the bumper to get the best results!

Total cost would be as follows:

- Front bumper kit $399.99 - Center grill guard $29.99 - Headlight protection $34.99 - Shipping $51.50 =Total $516.47

Let me know if you need anything else!

Thanks,

Nathan Wright

He attached the following pictures to the email.

And just for fun heres the really sexy awesome picture off the website.

I actually plan to make mine like this one here. I'm not too happy with the headlight gaurd tubing. This one looks way better and is more of the look I'm going for. Plus I figured with the fender flares and this bumper my truck will come very close to looking like this one.
Plus this picture gives a person more of an idea of what it looks like with the offroad lights and winch which is what I like because I also plan to put on a winch, off-road lights, flares and it shows how it will look with the SFA as well. And the truck is charcoal gray, so i now know exactly how mu truck will look down to the color lol

Anyway, sorry bout the battery.... but better now than on your first trip out to the middle of nowhere with the SAS, right? hahaha.
Thanks alot. we have my girlfriend to thank for the shakiness of the camera. Doesnt have the steadiest hands in the world.
AND about the video being removed.... DAMN.... I waited 3 hours for it to upload and they took it off this sucks lol I'm gonna have to try splitting the video in 2 parts. Anyone know how to do that?

Btw Mark. The battery was needed for my car not my truck. You probably got it mixed up with when i had said i needed to replace the tires on my truck because of the rip/crack on the side that came from the sidewalk rubbing. I do plan to get one of those optima batteries for my truck eventually though.

So I bought the new redtop optimous battery off the mechanic and it worked like a charm. Turned my car on the first try. I noticed i had much more power. I also realized it starts my car up way faster then the previous one. Now that I have my car problem fixed now i can get started with the tire rubbing fixing if that is even a possibility with these huge 33/12.5's. Then i gotta check up to see about any tire shops who'd wanna buy my spares or trade me for a 31" tire.

JUST HATE to see you pounding away over that. GOTTA get 31's back on there... Maybe just a no cut zuk mod for now and then sell them when you do the SAS and rear(65$ or so, buddy... worth a looksie! lol) I know, every dime adds up ....

Zuk nod only costs $65?!?!? I think you might have be on to something Mark. Gonna have to look on the classifieds for used Bj spacers and if I find any cheap then hell yea ill definitely do that. If sure will beat having to buy myself a brand new set of tires when I can just use these 33's till they wear out on me then when I SAS buy some nice 35's.

What size Bj spacers will I need? Btw eBay has a couple for like $78 for different size bj spacers.
I'm just curious if I do this. I know I will need Bj spacers, Zuk mod but will I need to get new front shocks?
Just trying to average out total cost.

I roll 33s, and the rubbing is just something you gotta learn to deal with or start making wider turns. I took my sway bar off because I was tired of rubbing agains that crap.

I think I'm gonna have to make a video or take some picrures to show exactly where its rubbing. It's on the actual fender at the very bottom part where the plastic wheel well piece and the fender are held together on that last screw. I'll try to edit a picture on my phone and put a circle on the area im getting that rubbing.

With the BJ spacers it is recommended that you get longer shocks to go with them, you can get by with what you have though. Have you tried just cranking the bars up a bit to clear?

U can crank them till it hits the bump stops. Pretty much the more you crank the less down travel you have. Plus a firmer ride.

nice work on the dash lights! LED's turned out sweet!...On the Zuk mod, if you use Jeep TJ coils you might be able to do it even cheaper than $65. I put an add in CL for factory TJ front coil springs and picked mine up for $20!

Hey Bud, sorry... crazy busy lately..........

* 1.5" spacers would be fine

* Coils are very reasonable at Southwest Speed store on Ebay(that's who Zuk recommended to all of us/The link is on my Zuk Build... just go to '92_toy's son's 4runner build... The black one? It's got the no cut coil link on that thread )

* Shocks SHOULD be changed ...........IF you're planning on wheeling a bit before you SAS eventually. BUT DON'T HAVE to be changed. Eventually, you'll be tossing those stock shocks, right? So why not use em. They'll limit your droop, .. but that's a good thing, TRUST ME! lol. Some droop is good, but too much is very risky to CV angles/binding/ tearing of boots. You could stuff the tire all the way up into the wheel well and it wouldn't be NEARLY as dangerous to the CV boots as too much droop would.... Why? Too much droop means too much risk to CV boots.... Which is already an issue for ya, lol.

* I could lend you the Edelbrock Shocks if it's ok with Anthony1(he let me use them while I waited for my OMEmu shocks... I'm not sure if he wants them back, but I should at least ask him, as he never said... The Edelbrock shocks are for 2" IFS lift/what you basically get out of BJ spacers, roughly)... I've been waiting to pull the edelbrock shocks for some other work... BUT, the boot tearing expedited the swap, lol. I'll ask Anthony if you want, k? You'd just need em til your SAS plans go to jack stand mode.

EVEN BETTER! Maybe even pick some up at the yard one day? Probably cheaper on CL from some guy just wanting to dump em... and WAY less work! hahaha.

Then you'd be at around 120$ for a 2" Lift.

BTW; My 32's even rub, and they rub on the inner portion of the fender plastic skirt... Lil tab there on mine.... I'm going to stick them to the chassis with a self tapping screw or "click tab"... But I DO have a lil lift.... So mine clear a lil better/hit differently. Plus, the 33's you have are on stock 7" SR5 rims... THAT is part of your problem. WHY? Because they have more backspacing, so the rim sits closer to the wheel hub... This brings you at full turn to a point where you're up to 1.5" closer to that 'TAB/SCREW' that's causing you problems... Make sense? My Outlaw2 Rims are 3.75" Backspacing(I think).... Whatever they are, they bring the rim OUT further, as you can obviously tell. I mean, they're only 1" wider tire... yet stick out almost 3" further? lol.

Well Alright guys. Tire problem fixed. My offroad buddies gave me their old 31" spare tire. They roll 35's and have no need for it. Its just been 5-7 years since they've had the tire under the truck. So now i have a replacement tire. Gonna get it mounted onto my black rim tomorrow. And also gonna see if the ire shop wouldnt mind trading my 2 tiny spare tires for 1 31" tire. this way i can swap out the 2 most screwed up tires on my truck. Yay.

Also i got more news. I'm gonna stick to 4.88's after all. not gonna stay with the 5.29s.
at least with these gears ill be able to ride both 33's and 35's. Gonna take a while for me to get everything i need but at least now im happy that this tire problem is fixed ya know.

I would stick with the 4.88 gears if I were you also, I am running some 33's right now with 4.10 gears and its not a rocket but it suits me just fine.

Yea the only reason I was thinking of 5.29's is to go the cheaper way because the front axle has some already. But 4.88's are what I've wanted from the start. And I figured I'm getting what I want so far. I just dont wanna settle on anything. so I'm gonna spend the extra cash and just get 2 sets of gears rather then one. After all I am saving money on one locker already thanks to my offroading neighbors. So whatever I don't spend on one Spartan locker ill just use on the 2nd set of gears.

Plus the guy with the white 4runner told me that one of his friends pushes 37s with 4.56 gears with no problem. He said with the V6 engine I shouldn't have any problems pushing 37's on 4.88 gears if I really wanted to ever go bigger then 35. So that's cool for me.

37'S????????? ON A LOS ANGELES DAILY DRIVER? Richard...... did you take some happy pills, thinking they're vitamins?? hahahaha. JK, .... GREAT NEWS on the tire/s.... Equally happy for ya that your plan is smoothing out... That makes it MUCH easier to just relax and let it fall together over time.

I was just messin, ^^^^, But 37's... Just a TOTAL PITA for me, personally. Couldn't park in my Garage, .. Couldn't park in LOTS of garages around here.... Couldn't park half the time, PERIOD, because "COMPACT", in L.A.??????? IT MEANS JUST THAT, ''compact'', HAHAHA. I figured it out one time.... 33x10.50's would allow me to squeeze into spots just fine with her... and under garages with no more lift but MAYBE 2" max.... Which I don't think I need.

35x12.50's will look really nice on ole "Kingsford", when SAS'd. My buddy had an 85 Long BED 4WD EFI...... He ran 4" lift with 32x11.50's(like mine).... and it was NICE, man... I'll post up a pic soon. I have it near by... just have to Scan it.

4:88's? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, interesting. hahahaa.... JK, .... again.... AND I AGREE!(as you know ).... AND, ....... btw, I'm a bit on INFO OVERLOAD... so could you remind me..... When did you verify the SFA you have is 5.29's????

Lmao. I was just saying if i ever wanted to try out 37's it would be possible. But i honestly never planned to go bigger then 35/12.5/15 tires. Thats as big as i think i'll ever go. We'll see... lol you know how that addiction goes hahaha.

As far as the gears go, I havent confirmed the ratio. I'm solely going off word of mouth by the guy I bought them off of. It can be total BS for all I know. I'm not sure at all just yet. But After having a nice 3 hour talk with my offroad buddies my mind was then changed to stick to what I had originally wanted. Both their truck and 4runner run 4.88s with lockers on 35's and they said theyve never had a problem with that gearing for those tires ever.
....Not to mention they have 8 33/12.5/15 BFG MudTerrains in their backyard (4 which are on black steelies) but they dont use them at all due to them having 35's and they dont plan to go lower. No dry rott, no cracks, no holes, nothing bad wit hthem at all; just a little dusty from not being used. The dad wants to sell them. Sooooo I figured if i go 4.88's I will have my set of 5 Sport king tires on my SR5 rims. AND i will just go ahead and buy all 8 of their tires and that should be sufficient enough for a nice LOOOONG time before i ever go on to 35's ya know. Plus ill have a pretty sweet set of black rims haha. These are in exceptional condition. And a couple of their tires have about 1/4" tred left. Others have about 3/8's" - 1/2" tred left. So This gearing will work out very well. Its convenient because i will have 8 bfg and my 5 Sport king tires to use on and out on trails ya know.
Sounds like a reasonable deal right.

Great to hear they have those.... Lemme just share my perspective.... Share it with them and see what they think, ok? >>>>>

1. I would sell the black rims....AFTER you wear out the Sport Kings.... Here's why; For one, they pull on the bead a LIL too much and will wear out the center of the tread too fast. In addition/related.... You don't wanna wear out those fairly new 33's the same way.... Where you have TONS of tread on the sides of the tread but not in the center. ALSO, ..... 15x8's with 3.75 Backspacing would bring you out even a lil more than mine/Cuz you'd be on 12.50's, not 11.50's(mine stick out around 2-3"/which you've seen) and while it's not TOO "OUT" from the fender.... you would be a lil more and balance out the "Width-to-Height Ratio/Tip Over Factor" a lil bit.... (Ask your buddies, they would know). Also ask them about going TOO wide on the rim and how you increase 'popping a bead' risk )

2. IF YOU KEEP the 15x7 black rims... YOU COULD run the Sport Kings in town, until they're too worn(Because they likely provide the lil extra backspacing you need, ....which the Stock SR5 rims do not). THEN, WHEN THE SPORT KINDS ARE WORN OUT, SELL THEM, or trade for some 15x8's or 15x9's(Again, ...ask your buddies what they think, as I said/Plus threads on here that cover this).

3. I doubt the guy who sold that Axle would make up 5.29's, but you never know. Sellers of those KNOW that 90% of those who buy them are planning an SAS. Regardless, wipe the nut clean with hot mildly soapy rag and look at the color of the paint on the end of the pinion bolt/nut. (5.29's would NOT have a stock pinion color code... BUT, 4.88's, 4.56's, 4.37's, 4.30's, 4.11's, 4.10's, and 3.42's would....>>>> (Scroll down in the link to Ratios, but read up, it's good to know.... NEVER KNOW, you might come across another that you'd rather use and end up selling yours, ya know?/Maybe that has all the brakes done, etc.?)>>>>>

I understand bro. I'm still not sure how wide those black steel rims on those BFG tires have and I dont know the back spacing on them yet either. I only seen them from a distance. But ill make it a point to take a look at them up close to see the back spacing on them. and i totally agree with your idea on the rims. I was planning on doing that too. Thanks for the website. It'll be helpful when the time comes
