Side note if doing this swap the SC400 tranny has a lower 1st gear than the LS400.

SC400 1st 2.804, LS400 1st 2.53

Obviously the SC is a better choice when doing this swap. the LS would be fine but if you can get an SC do it

The other side note is that the T100 transfer case will bolt right up to the lexus tranny, if you are just replacing the engine and not doing dual cases that would be the way to go.

To save a buck you can use the T100 transfer case portion that bolts between case and tranny then do a marlin chain driven to gear driven adapter (350ish) and save a few bucks over doing the inchworm prerunner adapter (600)

Lexus fuel (LS400) pump in Toyota bracket. I had to cut the tip that retains the fuel pump on the bracket from the lexus (form fitted with a rubber piece) and weld it to the 4Runners bracket and rewire.
it uses a heavier gauge wire as well. larger pump - more draw

Side note- the SC400 pump is as small as the V6 and 4cyl.
but has a higher pressure and more gph.

3 link details

I had a pain in the ass of a time getting the rear lifted high enough to match the front so after looking around at my 80 series I came up with using the 80 lower rear links (50 percent longer..11 inches to be exact) and 80 series 2.5 inch lift springs (stock net you about 2 inches when used under the 4Runner) so these should be 4.5 to 5 on the 4Runner.

I have already measured again and again and have the upper triangulated link made using a single rebuildable johnny joint attached at the center of the rear axle (98 4Runner-wider to match the 80 front I will be using) and 2 mounting points at the frame. close to the factory location... kinda.

Modifications were needed to the gas tank to clearance for the mounting points. not much tho, I didnt lose much volume. will post those pics up later, I am getting ahead on myself.

the pump pressures are almost the same. i couldnt find the spec on how much they flow though. i dont think you would have a fuel issue inless maybe under large amounts of boost.

Rear lower links/poor mans 3 link.

Here are the lengths/differences in the FJ80 and 4Runner lower links.

4Runner- 18.25 inches/463.5 millimeters

FJ80-27.5 inches/698.50 millimeters

9.25 inches/234.95 millimeters longer

50 percent longer(9")plus 1/4"/ 6 millimeters (9.25 Total longer)

I havent measured the diameter.

I may integrate johnnyjoint/heims style end onto it later, as for now I am setting it up and tuning it so its retains some of its road manners.

I will use an Old Man Emu FJ80 rear lift spring OME863 3 inch lift spring, hoping for a total of 5 inches.

I have the the 4 inch front leaves and shackle and a stock landcruiser coil in the rear (2, 2.5 inches?) and a 1.5 spacer and it sits ass low...bad.

I am stretching the wheel base 3 inches as well.

1. to clear a larger tire without butchering the wheel well.

2. Stretch it a little to help with stabilty and do better in some situations off road (I will probably never notice a difference)

3. if all goes well this will have some serious travel in the rear.

I will have to move the spring buckets back as well, and I am adding hydraulic bumps stops in the center of the new spring cones.

I will be able to remove the rear panhard rod as well.

EDIT-I know, pics suck. deal with it for now.

You're off to a great start! Like the SC swap. Very cool idea. I had a stock 3.slow and always wanted more, but you took it to a new level. That thing should pull stumps!

Here is the tranny shaft cut pic, 2.5 inches from the trans case to the cut. 23 splines.

You can also see the magnetic trigger that I have cut speedo gear off of.

I am using 3 Grub/set screws(with thread lock permanent) tapped into the ring to hold it into place

Radiator

Ordered an AFCO racing PN 80100N radiator it measures 19 high and 22 wide. My freind (Toyminator on this site doing a UZ swap too) used this radiator as well and notched his frame. having a 1.5 body lift I may get it in without much mods I will be using an electric fan or the factory lexus clutch fan. Rad. will be delivered tom. will add pics then

I could have went flexalite, Becool etc. but I wheel this truck and its a good chance this wont be the first rad. I go through($$), plus if it doesnt cool well I am only out 169.. from summit (had a 20.00 off coupon) the other radiators were kinda pricey and I think this one is up to the task with the fan I am using.... pics tom.

The fan.

I know some of you may see a thread here and there about the ford Taurus 3.8 fan, in the for sale section maybe even.
You may have not given it a second thought being a pile of s$#t taurus and all..... (I didnt either)

Jebus christ these fans flat out rock. they use them to cool big blocks, desert trucks, hot/street rods etc- kinda a poor mans performance fan. they flow 4000 cfms on high (2speed fans) and are CHEAP! 10 bucks @ the local junkyard for me.

I picked up a Taurus SHO single blade fan (single speed as well, but has 2 wires going to 1 (+) and just a neg and pos. going to motor) most people get the 2 speed Taurus 3.8 fan (picking 1 up -a 2 speed fan tom. for referance)

Even if this single speed isnt the 4000 rpm version it still moves a Sh#t ton of air, the motor has a ton of torque(SHO it came out of was a V8) should be fine, if not in goes the

THIN!! I modded mine down to 3.75 inches thick at the thickest- will add pics of mods tom. as well

With the radiator I will have a total of 6.25 inches to find @ core support- no problem, with some trimming/sectioning I was expecting to get 7.75 until I found this combo

SIDE NOTE ABOUT TAURUS RAD. MOD
This has a 100 amp start up draw and needs at minumum a 35 amp relay (I would use 50-60) there are wiring schematics all over the web for this set up and is super easy and cheap to make.

The 2 speed fan does have more air flow so I am trimming up a 2nd fan shroud with 2 speed fan to fit around water necks and extend to the bottom. It will be in case the first one doesnt pull enough air for cooling (I am sure it will, but it wouldnt hurt to have a backup in your outa town gear seeing its a junkyard fan and all.)

These are avail. from Orielys auto for 129 with shroud, In my opinion anytime you can use an off the shelf in stock part your much better off.
Lets say you are in Utah, having just got on the trail and you realize the old fan didnt like the ride on your trailer for the last 800 miles being pushed by the air on the highway flowing through it and its done, if you ordered that nice 200-300 dollar custom name brand or any fan that you have to order for that matter you lose a day or 2 or 3 + paying out the ass for next or second day air to salvage your trip- for 20 bucks a second junkyard fan is a great insurance policy as well.

Thermo fan switch

okay so following along with the resourceful angle of this build (easier parts availability, and to do it for as economical as possible so the broke guy who has a bad 3.0 can do it too!)
I am using a honda thermo switch going into the top of the outlet water neck.
I tapped it to 18 MM to take the Honda thermo switch and I removed about 2 mm of aluminum to place it into the water flow

the temp range on this is on @ 93C- 199.4F
the off temp is 88C- 190F

the Lexus Thermostat opens at 82C- 179F
the Lexus engine operating temp is 90-95C - 194-203F

again the advantage to using an off the shelf Honda thermo (in stock at most parts store and cheap-14 bucks) is to be able to get up and going again when it matters most. in most cases you can go to junkyard and grab a few off hondas and test when you get home on the stove in boiling water.

Ordering a thermo switch when manufacturers like Honda made quality ones to start with is a waste of monay and very impractical. you can carry a spare or 2 also when using the Honda part/
. I wll post up the tapping and the thermo switch pics later tonight

EDIT- to do this mod you will also need to be doing the EGR delete mod as well (sensor goes where EGR water temp. probe was. EGR delete kit is 75 bucks and cleans top of engine up well.

Removing the EGR is a violation of local state and Federal BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. you get the point.

heres pics

Taurus fan, Afco radiator, fits perfect almost. if it doesnt cool well enough I will add a longer shroud to it. I am thinking it will be fine.
