Yeah, the temp gauge would fall off, ...then I would rap on the cluster plastic and it would pop up, then back down at times, etc. Once it warmed up it seemed to stay up where it was. Yes, I switched it with the cluster I got from the yard.

Yes, I switched the oil pressure gauge as well, for the heck of it, ....but mine seemed to work fine before I pulled it. If not, you could most likely find a way to rig that, maybe even with another temp gauge set up? Not sure on that. One thing I KNOW worked fine is the RPM gauge.... which is good to have. You could just get a cheapo oil gauge and temporary mount it off the pillar for now. But yeah, I understand you wanting to have it all orig. and working . I honestly think that the oil pressure one was fine, it just had me wondering, ..but I think most of that was because of my machinists bad build. Can't be sure though. I don't EVER remember it falling off, etc. It should run about half way.

Thanks mark, the OP gauge I have some ideas on so I will run down those leads as planed, I have a true mechanical gauge plumbed in now so no biggy. See about swapping temp gauges, maybe that will fix that. And enjoy having a tach. Cool see a few things off the check list and I'm not even home sweet.

I've looked at some on the internet, they all seem to resemble something from a 1950s horror movie so I think I'm gonna wait for technology to catch up a bit LOL.

Waiting to load out here in California, be our last load for this company yeah. Hoping to get something's buttoned up on the runner when we get back, but I have a feeling things are going to be crazy trying to get set for the new job so we shall see. Hopefully be able to atleast swap that kinked bypass hose out and get some fresh gas in it and see if it wont run alittle better. Really wanting to move on to the next phase but I want to be confident that I have it running good first.

Just a thought, but you could pop up the back seat bottom and pull the pump(clean up the contacts while there, replace any rotten looking hoses, etc.), ...and then open the drain and then flush out that tank a lil with some denatured alcohol, ether cans, then refill with a few gallons and start fresh. The filter will take care of any loose micro particles of crud that get left in there... and you could actually get a vacuum extension in there just to be thorough.

That's all up to you.... and I guess just running it a bit longer till you run out any stale fuel could work just fine. Yeah, I didn't mean to sound like I'm trying to make more work for ya, lol. Just that, it's not that difficult to flush out the tank a bit with it still mounted, etc..

Can't wait for ya to hit it up again, and CONGRATZ, ONCE AGAIN, BUDDY! GREAT NEWS on the job!

I imagine your ready to get home from California. I used to go there quite a bit, but not on todays gas prices. Hoping you get some more home time with your next job.

I understand wanting to move the next phase. Had it my way, it would all be done in a nite. Maybe some fresh gas will get things going for you.

Thanks guys, I'm really hoping fresh gas will show some improvement really thinking it will. The last time I had it running was much better than the first round, still struggled to idle but better throttle response ecspecialy after adjusting the timing some. Still really happy with how solid it sounds.
Even with the new job we will be away from home just not weeks at a time, so that will be much better.

Hey man, ....I hear ya... but I don't think you half arsed much, Jason, ...just things that seem to normally get 'pushed on with the new motor', ya know? I can relate..... never screwed with a 22r>>>EEEEEEEk THIS much until this one, .....and WOW, as simple as it is, it takes a while to soak it all up. Then, you realize, often too late, ..."What? These things 'DON'T LIKE' aftermarket stuff on a lot of things? And what? I need to do WHAT???? WHY?" hahaha. At some point, I was just, to be honest, trying to NOT GO EVEN MORE broke! lol. Well, you see where that got me! lol. It wouldn't have mattered in my case, as you know,...but nonetheless, you get the point intended, right? lol.

I hope I can help some more in some way... but I hope even more THAT IT'S NOTHING BUT STALE GAS! PERIOD! END OF STORY! hehehe. Bottom line is IT'S RUNNING NOW, however petulant it might act! lol..... It's running, and that means you can DIG DEEPER, even if it is something further that needs to be uncovered, ya know? WOOT! Stoked for ya, and that thing is gonna be SICKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK, when you're done with it!

Traveling mercies, buddy!

Mark

Just checking in on you. Guessing you are getting closer to home. I got to thinking also we might could go over your vacuum lines again unless you feel really confident in them.

I cant see it being much holding you down. Once you get the gas elimenated, we can check vacuum, and electrical connections. Might want to try gettting some contact cleaner.

Looking forward to you getting home after everything settles down with the new company.

didnt get much done today but I did tinker some, still havent added any gas but started it tonight and it fired rite up, even idled but the longer it ran the worse it got but still way better than before. Tomorow I will put some fresh gas in and I have to pick up the hose from the dealership and get that changed.
also took both gauge clusters apart to see about swaping the temp gauge out, no dice it is completely diferent so I will have to figure out a new plan there I will check at toyota tom and see if I can buy replacement gauges but I doubt it we will see.
let yaall know how it goes tom.

Dangit, not swap-able, eh? Grrrr. Sorry man, .... but first off, I'd check with a j-yard first.... Toyota? Yeah, you could buy a whole new cluster for what you'd pay for that alone, most likely, lol. Maybe there are some write ups online, eh?

Good chattin, buddy! Hope all is well.

been a busey weekend as predicted but I did manage to get a few things done on the runner, added fresh gas and it does seem to run better it will idle, still running a little rich, added new ground straps also worked on getting my eletric fan controler hooked up in a more permanant way.
we have had company all weekend so its been hard to balance everything good to just relax for a change.

so relax we have my buddy mat and I went and played in the mud, mats tundra is frggin awsome and the new runner although I hated to get it dirty it performed great on the mild trails we hit and we had a great time.
Im going to be hitting mine as hard as I can, I want it done !!!!

Good to see you're still working away Jason. Might want to reset the ecu and see if it throws up the same codes after throwin in the new gas. Odds are the ecu was cheating things here and there trying to make things work on the old gas. Also, I'm not sure if temperature sensors are the same between regular trucks and sr5 trucks, but I'm pretty sure you have to put in a different oil pressure sensor before hookin up a sr5 cluster to a truck that didn't come with one. Pretty sure you will nuke the oil pressure gauge if you hook it up without doing that. My temperature gauge doesn't work properly either, but I think that's because I have a rear heater, and I don't have a dual stage thermostat. Terry tipped me off on that one, and I'll have to pick one up sometime. I probably haven't been helpful at all, just brainstorming a bit.

Hey mark the new runner is really growing on me, we all had a great weekend working on trucks wheeling and a late night impromptu jam session, good times.
Dutch any input is good input, you are correct on the oil pressure switch and I did change it before I put the engine back in sooo not sure there, side note priced gauges at Toyota hmmm, Yea $220 for op and temp gauge. And I don't think I'm getting the codes cleared same 6 and 11 as before.
