thanks for the bump on the other thread.
i'm in school for aviation maintenance and repair. this class is about working with sheet metal. riveting is so much fun. if i had the resources, i would rivet new aluminum body panels for the caboose

ok, so i've had a bit of an incedint. left bed body panel is smashed in. now the auto body place gave me two options: replace the section (no bondo) for ~1400 or repair the section (with bondo) for ~1000. i can get a junk-yard bed for ~700 (in good condition, possible option), or i can bang it out myself and have it look like a half-a55 job until i save up for a proper fix. right now, i can afford to do all but the first mentioned repair, but in a few weeks, i can get more done.
i've also heard of a mysterious "taco bed swap", but all i've heard is that it has been done. i dunno if this would be cheaper, but it's another option.
any and all help appreciated!!!

DANG! What happened, man? sorry to hear, Ian, really brudda. Not sure on the taco swap, but you could probably do well by making sure that there is no other damage to things under there(meaning, can they make it AS STRAIGHT as it was, and would it be easier to just swap out the bed?).

i'm thinking bed swap. i have another phone call to make, but it would probably be about the same (~900 or so total cost)
pic. more tonight

as to how it happened, let's just say that i now hate volvos

I think with that much damage you're better off getting a whole new bed. I wouldn't want to repair that and definitely NOT use bondo. Have you thought about a fiberglass bed?

Those beds are pretty flimsy because toyota changed the style in 89 so they wouldn't rust out around the wheel well.
You could probably take your hand or 2x4 and push some of that out from under the truck. I've replaced whole bedsides before, pretty easy(i used to do collision repair). You certainly don't need an entire bed. But you will need to remove the bed to fix it, oh and your cap.
I have a welder and air if you want to replace it when the weather gets warmer. You know where i live.....just bring the Root Beer.
I think a fibergalss bed would be great, but VERY expensive.
