Reminded me of some bbq place I used to hit down in like Odessa or Seguin or somewhere. Across the street was (closed?) old fab shop, with humongous slabs of various widths plate (1"+, 5'x 10' ish) laying in this lot. Wasn't like anyone was ever going to sneak off with it.
It is one heavy piece of crap, 20 lbs plus. Hopefully be able to get it drilled next weekend. Going to need some thread cutting oil and a few more drill bits, gonna destroy a few of them..

Played with the drill press today, got all 8 holes drilled in a couple of hours, started with 1/8" bit worked up to 1/2" and some thread cutting oil. Hopefully see tomorrow if this half assed spacer/riser idea of mine might work

OK, still not sure if I am gonna keep the Trekker bumper but had some time to continue the recycle experiment
Here is it with the bumper mounted about 1 3/4" higher

I am thinking extending the bottom tube a few inches towards the fender well might help the looks department.

That does look good. If you extended it like you are saying it would be better. Nice work!

Good to be back! I like the bumper on there. Hot seems like the hoops for the lights aren't gonna provide much protection. Maybe cut those off and make new hoops that wrap the corner a bit?

So one thing that bugged me since I picked this hunk up was that that passenger side door key cylinder didn't work. Had today off so decided to fix it.

Some simple cheap Harbor Freight pry bars sure make removing panels easier

Too lazy to pull the wiring harness

$35 at the local locksmith and I have a working passenger side lock

And nice thing I didn't know, passenger side lock will unlock all 4 doors like the driver's side

Oh if you ever take one of these apart have a magnet handy, the door handle housing acts as retainer for the little internal door and outer cover for the cylinder. I took the cylinder out from the inside and little parts dropped inside the door..PITA lesson

I have read numerous times that the key code is on the passenger side door lock. I have looked at several trucks and have yet to find the code that has been mentioned. You did not by chance see anything on yours have you?

yea... I never found the code on my truck when i did this recently. I bought OEM toyota blank keys online, new cylinders and a tumblir and had my buddy key everything to match my rear window lock cylinder. Now I've got nice OEM keys and new cylinders. New keys never felt so baller... cause they match.

Terry I have heard the same thing. I didn't see a code, but I really wasn't looking for it either.
I just looked on my old cylinders from the Trekker and there was no code.
Gonna call that Myth

Been slowly selling old extra parts and used part of the proceeds to pick up a set of ebay cheapie replacement tailights. For what some guys were asking for faded used crap i now have nice bright lenses.

I think it looks good. I wish there was a replacement like that with a back up light in it like the trucks have. For those of us with spare tire carriers this would be an awesome swap.

I haven't had a 3rd Gen truck tail light in my hands before but they do have a built in back up light. I don't see a reason why a set couldn't be adapted to a 2nd gen 4Runner

Wasn't sure if I was gonna do the whole roof rack deal but this was scored cheap at a garage sale this morning.
I will probably end up extending the factory luggage railso forward for a 3rd cross member
