I was kidding....sparkly is good. Awesome rack find. Love getting a great garbage sale deal.

If anybody ever wants pics/ measurements of a 3rd gen taillight I'll be happy to oblige though the set-up like drop-zone's is surely way brighter.

Here is the kind like I was looking at:

I do agree, the LED's are probably way better.

i was checking out Dirtco's 3rd Gen Thread on T4R, and he has me wondering if I can fit this beast into my 2nd Gen:

I started looking at dual batteries, I know I could make them fit, but it gets really expensive once you figure in the price of two batteries and the isolator system. So that killed that idea.

So I’m stuck with one battery, and I wanted something that I could exchange locally if there was another issue. That pretty much left the Duralast AGM line through AutoZone. I looked through their selection comparing specifications on each model until I said screw it, I’m getting the biggest battery they make and stock in my local store!

So I bought a Duralast Platinum AGM H8, or group 49, and as you would imagine the numbers are better than the Yellow Top.

Here is the Yellow Top in comparison

I haven't had a 3rd Gen truck tail light in my hands before but they do have a built in back up light. I don't see a reason why a set couldn't be adapted to a 2nd gen 4Runner

Truck lights are bigger and it would take extensive body chopping to get them to fit.

I'm planning on using an Exide Edge battery. Really good reviews and it's a sealed battery that will actually fit.

That battery looks amazingly like the one that fits in the bmw 530's. Although mine was 7 yrs old, it still held up to abuse (aka a .7mA steady state current draw). Got mine at sam's: Interstate iirc

just got back from a 3500 miles road trip for my daughter's wedding in colorado. Saw a lot of cool stuff.

I had wanted a jump starter box for awhile and the road trip was a good excuse to pick one up. I did not want a huge one though. I found out of the NOCO's when I picked up a trickle charger set up a while back for the 4Runner. They make a few different sizes, I went with a mid range model that will jump start up to 6.0 Liter gas engine:

really compact package that will be handy out on the trail if I actually get this thing back out there

I bought mine off ebay, there is a sweet group buy for NOCO boosters on T4R.org that ends soon you might be able to get in on.

So with my 84" roof basket the stock luggage rack wasn't going to cut it, so using parts from the 4Runner shell a friend gave me I extended the rack 26" , by doing so I gained a 3rd crossbar. Gotta love a 45 minute project
Used 5 nutserts on each side

Thanks Don. We'll see about the tent. My wife looked at one a few years ago and didn't like the ladder idea

Finished up mounting the rack. It is a little higher than I was hoping for. I may end up Remowing the crossbars and hard mount it to the rails.

I added a small ATV storage box that could be used for stuff like recovery gear or miscellaneous crap
Plenty of real estate for stuff

My husband mounted his rack to the 99 with some unistrut pieces and so far his one and only complaint is that it's hard to get a hand in there to wax the roof. It is nice and solid.

I have a couple of ideas too. I need to take one of the inner attachment points down to the hardware store to make sure I get the correct metric bolts.

Ha, not too worried about waxing
I like the strut idea, I have a bunch of strap strut I could use..

Not sure when I will lower it.
Another distraction showed up today:
Started pulling crap off the tail end this afternoon

In Preparation for this hunk of junk
