haha, this thing will only be used for recovery. This thing can barely move itself when the transmission is working. I might be able to pull a 500 pound empty trailer downhill.

Something I just noticed, when it's in the position shown in the picture above, the tire blocks the pintle from opening. Can I guess the tire moves away, somehow?
If not, you won't be towing ANY pounds, down OR uphill
Would you have a few moments to read about some 1992 3.0 ruck issues to see if maybe you could shed some light or direction as to getting this thing running right?

yup, I would need to open the swing out to open the pintle.
that being said I have ideas floating around to throw a 35x10.50x17 spare mounted on the left side.
it would use some cargo space but I hate not having much visibility in the back. With the spare in its current location I can’t see squat.
and found out today I am not a very good mathmagician, I thought I had a 1/4” clearance. Nope I am a 1/4” too tall with an 8” tall storage box up top..
found out today when I had to push the garage ornament out so I could get rid of our garage fridge that took a dump last night.

Finally had some time, with a week left of my sabbatical to take a look at the donor transmission. Took about a billion pictures and took my time to document it.
Someone had been in it once before just looking at the slight dents in the 3 pressure tubes. Nice thing is that the valve body came off the main housing of the transmission with the gasket intact. Having the gasket stick to the original transmission is what screwed up the other valveBody and necessitated having to split the original valveBody to get a new gasket in there, possible the old valveBody didn’t get put back together correctly or was just plain fubar.
Either way I have new solenoids and a filter to go back in.
Plan is to slap this one back in the 94 and hopefully that will cure this thing having no reverse and going forward while it’s in reverse. Stupid duals being the auto debacle started just about 3 years ago. This has been motivated to get the #4runner back in the road.

Oh and the last pic I found that the tailgate brace for the rear tire mount hit the pintle hitch so tweaked the brace slightly to the left, clears the hitch just fine now and still supports the swing out tire mount as it should
all the pics are mainly to help me so I can get this thing back together.
and I discovered that the tailgate brace for the rear swing out hit the pintle hitch to quick tweak with channel locks bent it over enough to clear the pintle. In the closed position it still supports the spare tire like it should

so based on your comment i looked back at my thread from 3 years ago and sure enough the pressure tubes from the original transmission are also dented.
i wonder if they used a mallet to install them on the assembly line or something. Oh well
So I finally dropped the transmission pan today. One of the 3 return/pressure tubes was loose and dropped when I lowered the pan.
not sure if I found the proverbial smoking gun but I am gonna go ahead and swap the valve bodies since I have a strong distaste for ATF and would rather just do it all at once instead of pulling the pan and waiting for the ATF to stop dripping again.
Such a pain in the butt
and I found out Baja Designs makes Amber covers for the S1’s I use as mirror mounted ditch lights so dual purpose now

haha yup 3 years-
got a late start this afternoon, life was good lying under the truck in my blue Michael Myers coveralls got the valve body out and than some ATF stuck in a vacuum pocket or something let loose and I got sprayed in the face. Needless to say ATF tastes like crap so quit for today and will get the other valve body put in tomorrow.
Hopefully most of the ATF will drip out overnight. Amazing how much fluid gets trapped in these things

Before I took the original valve body out for the conversion it was working fine. Not doing the bands or any of that stuff.
The missus got out and helped me this morning to get the valve body installed by helping to hold some of the springs that would like to fall out while I was getting the assembly in place, truly appreciated since it was 36* degrees this morning and the cold garage floor was just that cold.
anyway, donor valve body is in with new solenoids and a filter.
will get the pan mounted and fluids in tomorrow

Truck will also be getting a new fuel filter. I will have to drain the old gas too since it has been in the tank for 3 years
Transmission pan is mounted- high temp RTV needs to cure for a day before I can add ATF
I am not sure how long I fought to get the bolt in for the transmission fill tube brace. What a pain in the butt

it took me awhile to find the Marlin Crawler electronic to mechanical speedometer adapter I bought 4 years ago when I started ordered parts for this thing
I thought about using the cable extension but figured it would be smart to have the adapter fixed to the rear transfer case It’s a tight fit with the adapter & plug and the pivot point on the frame for the parking brake. I ended up extending the wiring harness about 24”

So Logan aka: Big Blue Pile made a great comment on Instagram asking me if I was worried about Torque and the speedometer adapter hitting the parking brake bracket. I was like crap.
so I will be adding the speedometer cable extension to move the speedometer converter away from the parking brake crap.
will do that tomorrow.

OK, so got that speedo cable extension mounted and all hunky dory. Fill the POS with fluid. Goes forward, still no reversion but this time i have back up lights which i had before.
next step is to see about adjusting the shift linkage.
Don at Northwest Toys has offered to help swap my donor transmission in, so the truck might get loaded up and head west of Salem mid February for a transmission swap. ugggg.
Just want this thing to work...
