the dragons 88 runner buildup/rebuild

You are getting alot done and looks like you are fixing the POs bad repair job at that. All the foam did was make it worse for you. Dont understand why they halfbutted it that way. Seems like it is a Toyota thing though.

well the rear corner is fixed an the strength is back to support the gate we left the inside baffel open an added a drain hole as the welds will make it hard for some liquids to make their way out via the factory drain
i soaked the inside in primer to coat the welds an new steel get it down in the pits an such
just wish we could get the wheel arches then id feel like id made a good chunk of progress
still need the underside cleaned up the frame isnt horrible but places you can see several layers of undercoating an rust is shoving it off the steel
peeled some off under the bed area cross braces some was white some was black all crusted with rust the steel seems to be intact though just rusty need to vacuum the frame out where the bumper mounts slide in an spray old oil down there

That paint does have a nice gloss to it. Your truck is coming to life quick and is looking great. Somehow if I spill something on the floor, it will stay wet all day, but when painting, I keep the water hose running constantly and the floor dries quickly. Still havent figured that one out yet. The last time I painted, I had soggy feet the whole time. This time around, I am getting some rubber boots. Truck is looking better. I like the red on it and it has a deep look to it. Congrats!!!

Hey William. Nice job on that paint job. You can't even tell u had welded some new metal on it. Paint looks nice, bright and glossy. I seen you still have the rust in the rear fenders. Do you plan to do a similar fix on those as well? Are you only gonna paint that rear side or do you plan to do the whole truck when you fix the rest of that rust?

@ terry
well this shop used to be a cow milking barn the concrete is in sorry shape an likly poured in the 40's house is 100+ yrs old its soaked up all the water it'll ever want long ago when they hosed it out 3 times a day, concrete as it ages soaks up water hoover dam is still curing matter of fact
it did come out awesomely shiny didnt it! we figured out the correct ratio on the rustolium paint to acetone 50/50 an it sprays smooth an even tough paint too which in this case is important dont want ANY rust to start on the tailgate which is getting hard to find
@redeth
the compound curves an the fact the wheel arches face the world we want to find factory body metal not scrap maytag washer skin to weld on to fix the rust. we may have to though ive been quoted 300 for the arches (talked to terry bout the price i got he cringed as well) im hoping my local favorite scrap yard can find me a runner thats nearing her doom in a crusher i can save the arches from it but once ive got the metal weld grind tap out any dents duraglass any ripples prime an paint the entire quarters maybe the entire truck
i think our next target is the passenger fender as its missing the mounting tabs for the fender liner an has rust holes along the wheel opening
told kris i want to sand the top smooth an paint it he wants to do it in black im oh heck no! HOT yeesh! eeewww plus black always shows dirt an scratches lol the window L's are rusty an i'll likely have to replace them when i do the top

i was up an working before nearly every one in the house today LOL
got the gate on

then kris came home an pointed out the gate was out of alignment it was in too far on the drivers side we tryed adjusting the hinges but there isnt a lot of that so i got the unpleasent job of ovaling out the bolt holes we are at a loss why the gate was in too far by nearly 1/4 of an inch

well then Kris did me a cool favor he paid for my tags so we could give her a good drive to go get some emblem adhesive for the tailgate label the plastic things broke so.. kris also wanted to get his birthing day money spent he got himself a stud welder for pulling dents an a rebuild kit for his 4 barrel carb meant for his 76 dodge power wagon
so i got to drive her to twinfalls a 30 min drive one way she behaved awesomely! an you could feel the engine actually gaining power as the rings finally got a chance to seat in good
brakes pulse but likely PO hard spotted the rotors (got um hot an splashed with water) pulls a bit to the right but not violently so likely needs an alignment (did change out the steering box an pitman arm)
bit pronky in the rear springs not used to NOT having the bumper on nor the spare tire tranny was quiet no growling

found out the rear wiper motor dont like to let the window down an it dont park the broken arm very well we had to wait till we got back to the house before we figured out why the rear window wouldnt work alla sudden grrrr i KNEW id plugged the connectors in good did find out my console switch is dirty took a lot to get it to respond
anyhow finally i got to put on my dragon need to clean the window on the inside

Glad to hear you got to take her on a nice little run. A big Congrats!!! Getting her legal and able to run her on the road really helps in the moral department of working on it.
On the tailgate, it is about 50/50 for me to get it to alighn up the first time. If it doesnt, it is usually a pain to get it to alighn it the way it should be. Congrats on getting its first run on the road. Bet you were all smiles.

Dang that looks clean. Ill do your tints if you paint my truck! Haha no where near a fair trade huh haha
Hey I noticed you didn't put on a plastic shield on your tailgate did you do that intentionally or did you forget?
Looks great man. Making me really wanna order some new tail light fixtures. Both of mine are cracked and sometimes the right one doesn't show when I brake. Seems to me like its a ticket waiting to happen.

the plastic isnt in the gate as i dont have the plastic need to get some thick stuff an then figure out how to seal it off as i didnt have the sticky tar on the gate either but no its not been forgotten also need to get some wood to replace the backer on the carpet which is trashed
yeah the red really looks good looks factory in texture which always has a bit of a ripple in it need to wet sand with 2K an then buff with polishing compound the entire truck once painted
the fixtures arent the issue thats electrical id check your sockets are making connection with the bulbs right, sometimes bulbs the 2 lead contacts on the bottom arent even sand paper evens those out nicely
but if the reflectors the sockets are attached to are broken that could also be making the bulbs lose contact remove your lenses an wiggle the bulbs they shouldnt flicker

Now you just need a wide open sc'd 428 in there to shoot flames out the back and the theme is complete! Hehe. ... Very nice work!
