WOOT! Again, my pleasure!

BTW, GREAT NEWS on the Cluster!

BTW2, ...... I have an Inclinometer Mounting base with all 4 nuts... Maybe we can put them together and make a fortune? HEHEHE.... Not sure why I grabbed it, but they didn't charge me at PYPart... so meh, lol. I actually grabbed it, NTITA it...... For Richard/redeth... In case he gets one that doesn't have the mounting portion... voila! lol.

kris decided he was bored an painted the missed bits of the engine bay an then the steering box which also got installed brought the hood in an started looking at fitting it again

oi dents folds bends where they dont go it didnt fit with the new fender moan.... coveres eyes not surprised just hopping it would first try never works of course oh well started sanding seeing what horrors lay just under the surface!! MUAHAHAHAHA *coughs on evil laugh*

then glued the back ribs to the hood skin as 80% of them were popped lose an i couldnt sand with it oil caning so pictures to follow

steering box (from a 93 4runner) painted an installed the pitman arm is not fully tightened till we make sure its straight which i KNOW its not

and the hood an the horrors it hides under that poorly painted faded red paint you can see where we took a file too a few spots to see an bondo immediately fell off

after a bit of sanding i will do a bit of detective work on a different shot but after this i couldnt sand effectively as it kept oil canning as the under support web wasnt attached to the skin over 80% of it so i got a tube of liquid nails we had laying around an then as i was squeezing the tube exploded so i got to smear it with my fingers it'll clean up once hardened BUT

lol you should see the thing ive got cylinder head crank shaft 5 gal of gas a 10 ton jack tube bending forms a board to spread the weight evenly long reach clamps along the edges to make sure the support web firmly adheres to the skin an supports it

I got caught up on your thread but didnt have time to respond and you got more done. On your guage cluster I have had good luck using the lense restorer. It is scary at first as you will blur it as you sand it, but if done right, I think it turns out well. You could always practice on your non SR5 guage.

I am the same way. Even if you cant see it, I like it cleaned and painted just so that I know and when I go to work on it, I wont get as dirty. It also makes cleaningit up under there easier as the dirt and grime wont stick to it.

You can come across some bad examples of bodywork out there. Usually it wouldnt take much more to do it right. I have had to do some creative things to get things back together. What ever is available to hold things down.hehe

I have heard of can dents and dont think I have ever run into them. The way I understand it I dont want to. Never quite understood them? Guess it is something that you can kind of create if not careful?

Copied from my 88 Runner build. Follow directions and I liked the results.
I wanted to put my SR5 Guage in and got to looking at it and wanted it cleaner. Remove the tabs that screw the cluster to the dash to get the lense off.

I used a lense cleaner to clean it up.

I am quite happy with the results. The label says to allow up to 24 hours for the lense coating to dry. Will have to wait and see final results. Either way I am stuck with it. I have it tilted to avoid a glare while taking the picture. No matter how hard I tried, just couldnt get a good pic without the glare.

BTW, I updated my thread on the pick your part adventure today, hahaha... I called Jason, and I was JUST ABOUT to try and have him contact you or figure out which backing plate.. They were right there for the grabbing... BUT, he said "NOPE, I got him covered!" lol...... Such a tight 'cyber'family we have here, eh? hehe.

mines not too badly scratched terry i think some plastic polish will take those out but i sure could use that on the intrepids headlights they are terrible! so bad ive been tempted to use the car buffer an paint buffing compound
the guage face on the speedo is pulled up a bit ill get better picts in a few days i dont want to be bouncin round inside the runner while its up on jack stands but i want to pull it an yank the bulbs an ect

CHEF! thank you for thinkin of me! if ya see the rear backing plates those will be a find as ya have to take the axle off them pressin the bearing an grease seal off the axle Jason was OH i am so glad you mentioned that he was gona dig into his 97 runner which the rear has a leaking seal on a sunday an with no press to do that so saved him a sunday of frustration

Hey Buddy.... Not sure what you mean exactly... The rear axles of both are on the ground, 3rd Members removed(sad on that as the 87 was auto, which means it had both 4.30's .... They might have known that,.... but, why wouldn't they take the fronts then if they did? Ya know? I mean, they can't just give someone with 4.10's the 4.30's for the rear, unless it's for a 2wd with bigger tires than stock... Meh, anyway, they're on the ground, but if I need a press, etc., you're outta luck, buddy, lol. Maybe jason has those too? You could put up a pic of these things, maybe? I really don't know whatcha mean, aside from the back most plate behind the drums????

the backing plates on runners act like big flat washers to hold the axle bearing an grease seal in the rear on each side then also act as a mounting point for the rear brake shoes as well my passenger side is rusted out likely the drivers as well just havent dug into them to see the nightmares anyhow who'd thought that flat plate of metal would be so darn expensive LOL

HOLY ROTTING ORANGE CREVICE, DRAGON-MAN! haha...

Wow, I don't know how gnarly that would be to remove in a yard without a press or puller appropriate for that job, man... Also, .... it might cost around 4000000000$ to ship? ahhahaha.

thank ya jason again no rush shes not moving yet

the backing plates by themselves arent heavy THE AXLE with them would be lol

thankfully its not the first time weve had this issue ive got experience with the plates an bearings
the lady of the houses 90 couple xmas's ago someone sabotaged her truck we were driving home in the area there are several hills an grades only 3 places to cross the snake river we were going down a long 7% grade to a bridge an the rear drivers side wheel came off bounced over a guardrail an disappeared into the darkness

she was able to get the truck stopped an slid a bit but the drum was flat gone an the backing plate was ground off almost 2 inches flat we got her towed home an found all the lug nuts had been twisted lose the one wheel that'd come off walked enough to lose several of the lugs the last 2 studs snapped off

we went back out there the next day an found the wheel its her spare wheel now the lug holes all ruined as i told jason ya got to have a press to pop things apart an we were lucky to have a peterbilt dealership/shop in the area their press took care of it easy as pie

We have alot of the same problems. I have some wheel studs broken off and a backing plate all chewed up. I have never ruined or broke a backing plate. Just dont understand how somethings happen. Makes you wonder about some POs at times.

people get into the fun of thrashing an stuff breaks, mines just good old fashion rust due to NY state salt as for the sabotage of the ladies runner we reported it an apparently a parking lot camera caught something of it but the police never were able to find out who did it
