Didn't you have a set of regular off road lights on the 85? You can convert them to HID pretty easily with a kit like this
http://motors.shop.ebay.com/items/Pa...ashplus&_rdc=2

http://www.vvme.com/catalog/list-s-10145-10146.html

I've got a set of 5" cheap lights that I've been thinking about putting the HID H4 kit into them. The 35w HID's would be more than enough for a set of offroad lights.

If your 3rd doesn't show up, you should still try and make the trip with Cory. It's going to be one hell of a good trip!
So if you are going to make HID foglights contact DDM for the slimline kits. Everything is thinner then a pack of cigarettes and about the same size. It will fit in the back of a KC light or the cheep blazer lights from checker. Id only run them offroad cause they wont focus enough for street use but will light up a trail! i think most fog lights are h3/h1 bulbs anymore. DDM has them all and great color choices. You can get yellow if you want.

seeing what you have done with building bumpers and other things on this build up im sure when you get time and materials you will make a really kick a$$ one.
Thanks . . . . You are 100% right! That's kind of what I was going for, the old skid plate was dented everywhere and cracked in a lot of places. I took a sledge hammer to it, then started welding whatever I could find to it (I'm really surprised that it even bolted back on, between the beating and heat). I might build a new one later on, but for now I'm going to try to bash the crap out of this one, I guess it's a throw back to the old truck .

That's some good info! The HID lights make such a HUGE differance on the trail, it's amazing! I saved my old set of off road lights to convert over to HID, but they are H3 and I'm a little concerned about the length of the bulb itself. The glass on the light is concave and get's closer to the bulb than a normal light. I thought about mounting these on my ski rack and using them for late/winter/early season wheeling, when the days are shorter and you have to bash some fresh snow after work.

How are you liking the auto shift kit?

I'm guessing your talking about the rail shifter, I've found that the stock shifter works a lot better. The rail shifter has it place but does not have any kind of automatic TC lock up or compression braking for going down hill. The manual shifter (rail shifter) is good for when you want to stay in a certain gear (like third while going up a pass without downshifting) but on the trail I've found that the stock shifter/computer will lock up the TC when needed and overall works alot better.

Thanks, makes my decision easier. More questions which don't relate specifically to your truck... How would I test my TC lockup? Sometimes I think it isn't unlocking and causing me to stall out... It only stalls in low gear and when I am on an obstacle. Any ideas?

I'm impressed with the auto on the trail after seeing it in action at the CO4RJ

DIRTCO's 4Runner climbed over stuff without slipping a tire that the rest of us slipped and clawed up.

I don't really know? I've got my truck SUPER bound up a couple times, and with the auto it just stops moving. It seems like the transmissions starts slipping and that's when I let off. I think that the computer figures out the TC lock up.

I have noticed that when I'm in 4 low, first gear, that when I come to a stop the truck will shake/vibrate a bunch. I figure that with the low gearing the truck is over powering the brakes and over stressing the engine/transfer case mounts. I just shift it into N or P when I come to a stop.

I don't know if it's 28 pages but either way, one of the sickest build-up threads on the board - threads like these are why I wanted to have a section like this.

Thanks, I really appreciate it! Most of the stuff I learned was from reading build threads and stuff like this, I figure that it's only right to keep the chain going.

It's been a while since I've updated this, Ive been pretty busy and a little burnt out.

I got the ARB third installed and it's awesome, I will never go back to a non-selectable locker. One day in the future I want to get an ARB for the front too. I decided to run the locker off of Co2 instead of a compressor. I already have the tank and there's not much room under the hood for a compressor, so I went with the Powertank Co2 manifold kit.

I had a non-adjustable regulator, so I had to T off of it and install a regulator for the locker. It looks like I have a whiskey distillery in the back of the truck!

Which would come in very handy as well...

Nice work. I want ARB's eventually, but the list of other crap I need is so long and more important.

Next up was the CO4RJ, it was a mad rush to get everything ready but it was worth it and a great time!

Here's the trip report ... https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f100...2009-a-188097/

And here is the Youtube video that Aaron made of Holy Cross, great job BTW!

We all want them, but on a daily driver it's an investment that will pay off. Tires are expensive , the ARB will pay for itself in one or two set's of tires. ... Thanks man!

Thanks, Aaron (Volcom) did a great job! I was the "little guy" on 35's, everyone else was on 37's-40's (besides for Mayhem).

I've decided ARB's are the only way to go, the amount of wear you save on tires pretty much pays for the locker.
