DIRTCO's 1986 4Runner Build-Up Thread

That really means alot, I had a hard time cutting up the old 4Runner, but I feel that it was worth it now.
Thanks again!

A couple weeks ago I went up Sts. John, I was out of Co2 for the rear ARB and hit a spot towards the top I could not get through (it was too steep, off camber and snowy). I headed back down the trail, checked out a couple side trails I know of, and decided to head back up the next weekend. The truck did fine the next weekend.
I really liked a couple of the pictures, so I thought I would post them!

I just read through this whole build and your camper build and I am amazed at what you can do.
Wish I could fast forward time to where I have a shop and time to do any/all of this.
Full Time work + School + Wife + Trail runs = No time to do anything !
Wish you lived closer I'd just pay you instead of 4wheelparts

I did notice something kind of weird, the last time I took the truck down to Buena Vista I spent the whole weekend down there. Once I hit the first trail I aired down to 8-10 PSI, the place I was staying was only a couple miles away so I didn't bother airing up. The following day I headed to the next trail (about 5-10 miles away, half on the highway the rest on back roads), on the way I noticed a bad burning smell. There was a controlled burn in the area, and I thought the smell was coming from that but it was several miles away and the smoke was going in the other direction. When I came to a stop the smell only got worse, like burning rubber. I checked all around the dash, transmission, floor boards, engine compartment, etc and could not pin point it.
I know it's not the best idea to drive at trail pressure on the road, but I've never had this happen before with the old style MTR's, or my last Pro Comp Xtreme M/T tires. It was not a hot day either (temps in the 50's).
After spending some time on Pirate4x4 I ran into a post about the new MTR's, one of the guy's that was on the UA tour said that they noticed the new MTR's were making a bad burning smell after running on the highway, too.
Let me know if you have any specfic questions.

I will be there for sure, if you ever want to do some wheeling in the mean time let me know.

When we took it up to east vail we were literally bouncing up off the seats and hitting the roof when we would hit a rock or a wash because of the shocks - kind of fun really.

The 4Runner has been working great, it's awesome in the snow!
I've been out snow wheeling whenever I get the chance.
Here is the trip report from Halloween...

And here are a couple pictures from this last weekend. The Thule box looks a little silly, but it is great for the snowboards and will be put in storage this spring. It might work well for some camping trips this summer, too.

It is snowing in the Cascades big time this weekend. I need to get off my butt and get my transmission back in.
