Nice bumper J! You've stolen my design (that's I've had in my head for years now
) How hard was it to get the bends in the head light protectors?
I like how you've tied it into multiple places on the frame. My only concern is having it tied to the shock mounts. If you take a hard hit on the front, are you going to have an issue with that energy ruining your shock towers? I only ask because my brother tied his bumper into his tube fenders into his firewall on his YJ. A couple hard hits to his driver's side front bumper on Indy 3 years ago and it transmitted that into his firewall and actually wrinked the firewall under the cowl. It took some pulling on a frame machine to pull the wrinkles out and he redesigned his tube fenders and front bumper not to be tied to each other. Just looking out for ya!

In Torrance? My first job out of school was at the short-lived Power Systems division just a few blocks away from there on 190th. Small world.

Thanks guy's! It's a good feeling to have so many people like how it turned out.
These are the only side profile pictures I have, I'll take some more the next time I go wheeling.

At first I was going to, but the lights I have (which are old and not worth building the bumper around) are really big and didn't fit the bumper. All the wiring is there and ready to go, so if I find some that I like, and fit the bumper, I can add them down the road. We'll see
Thank's Aaron! It's pretty much the same kind of bumper I had on the green 4Runner, just a little wider (the last 4Runner had no front fenders) and with the winch mount added. The last bumper did a GREAT job of protecting the front end from damage, especially the headlight protectors.
The headlight protectors were not that bad to make, it's pretty much just a 90 degree bend. The tricky part was getting all the angles right, then matching the other side.
That's good info on the shock hoop's, but I really think that they will be fine. I had planned on building the bumper this way when I set up the shock hoops and I put both the braces on the back side of the hoop. If I took a really hard hit it might bend a little but I think it would be very minimal, I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I wired up the winch and used a Warn quick connector so I can plug in jumper cables and other things. Also, if I have an issue with the winch I could use Cory's multi mount winch.

I went out to do some snow wheeling last week and ran into some issue's. I aired down super low and threw it in 4 wheel drive, only to find a horrible noise in the front end. I got out, looked at the front end and noticed the toe and camber were WAY off
. I aired back up and headed home.
When I tore the front end apart I found that I had blown up the upper driver side trunion bearing. That allowed the alignment to go to hell and the birfield to rub on the king pin. I'll take a picture of the bearing later, but it's destroyed.

I went through the planatry gears and all the solinoid wiring. Everything seems to be fine, worst case I might have to change out the motor. I guess we'll see

I also did some snow wheeling last Wednesday after work, and it was awesome! The snow was perfect and we made it a LOT further than I thought we would. At the start of the trail the snow was 2'-5' deep, towards the top it was a good 5'-8' deep.
I had a hard time getting over this snow ledge and had to get a little tug from Cory. The rear driveshaft and third member were digging into the snow bank and the tires couldn't get any traction. It was close, but tire size made all the differance.

Heading back down

This picture really sucks but there is a river under under all that snow. I'm guessing that the snow is at least 15' deep in this spot, it was a little scary but a lot of fun.

how do you like your tires?? they dont look too agressive, and im guessing they are pretty nice for daily driving, but did they hinder you in the snow at all?
btw, beautiful pics... cant wait to see more...

Thanks!
I really like the new tires, they remind me a lot of the MTR's. They air down good and flex great, they also hook up pretty good in the rocks. I thought they did a great job in the snow, both on the trail and on the street. On the road they are pretty smooth and not super loud, although they did take more weight than the MTR's to balance.

Right after this there is a steep climb, and it was getting late, so we called it a night and headed back.
