A couple of issues. worth my time??
YotaTech how you guys doin. super new here and relatively new to off roading and wheeling. hope this is the right section for this because if i decide to keep it ill use this page as my build thread so lets start
last april i picked up a 1990 4runner v6 for 1650$
its got 131k on it right now
heres the catch, its got a few issues so idk if i should ditch it or keep it
her name is mollywop
armstrong woods
issues;
minor exhaust leak
cosmetic issues
automatic
damage to rear passenger axel and brake housing.
clicking when i the tires are turned while in low4
hoses and wiring under the engine are a madhouse and need tlc
im definitely in for a project, but is it worth the effort or should i let molly go to be parted out?

so tomorrow i am going to local pick n pull to grab axel and brake drum. or should i look at ditching drums all together while im at it?
im kinda strapped on money, but i can get some if it would be better to ditch the drums.
i want to to primarily like to mud my runner, but also have some freedom while camping to have some fun (duh). Not too rocky where i go so im not sure crawling is my cup of tea.

found out today i have either a bent brake drum or bent axel shaft, i decided id like to turn this mishap into an opportunity.
i have looked around if this question has been answered im sorry but i could only find general axel shaft questions,
im just curious what other cars (if any) could axel shafts be swapped out, or would that just be a waste of time? are there any that would be worth the conversion?

Welcome to yotatech!
Funny coincidence, that's exactly what I paid for my 90 4runner a couple years ago!
As far as I know, there are no other vehicles which would have an axle shaft that would work (besides of course toyota pickups from the same years, but those are identical to what you've got). If you really want discs in the rear, FROR makes a full floating kit - but thats talking big $$$. I would say just don't bother about upgrading it - get a new shaft on there, put some tires on it and go play in the mud

thanks runner kid. yeah saw that. ive been frequenting your build along with another few since before i was a yt member. i talked with my "authorized" yotota tech he said the same thing about the drums and discs dilemma. stayin with the drums. as for my plans for the rear. i want a leaf conversion to get rid of the saggy butt. but i also want to mount some springs. i heard explorer springs are decent for this. any thoughts on the process? anything that might cause issues with this combo?

Why? Leaves plus the ZUK style coils won't give you any advantage - just use the proper leaves when you do the swap and the coils won't be necessary. The other thing to think about is what you're trying to achieve: while pretty straightforward, a leaf swap isn't going to gain you anything other than increased height and (possibly) more articulation - which if you're not planning on playing in the rocks, you won't need.
I can vouch for the landcruiser coil swap, it really does work well in these trucks. But unless you lift the front also, they're gonna give you a pretty substantially raked stance - the rear will be 3 or 4 inches higher than the front.
If you're not wanting to lift it but just want to get rid of the saggy butt, take a look at the OME coils - that would probably be the best (and easiest) solution for what you are trying to accomplish.

i would like to end in the 3-4" lift range. after some playing around and seeing what i like ill make a choice i just dont have enough experience to know the difference of an inch especially when driving.

Trimmed some of the fat on Molly.
Keeping the rear for now. I'll show after my leaf spring swap. And i might look into infinity spacers or fj cruisers. I need a little lift I the front especially if i go with zuk mod. I can't find anywhere a list of cars or trucks that have leaf Springs to do any research to decide what i want. I also want to look at elliptical leaf spring set up but that's later down the Road.

The first is with her "Chrome" granny panties. Second is how she is now.

so i checked out a different salvage yard that i didnt know and old family friend had a huge hook up at... like seriously.... no one thought to say anything......... my family
so i checked out
1991 toyota 4runner sr5 5speed. only rolled but totaled out becuase of the miles. like 180ish. would that be a good snag for a 5speed tranny? or how can i tell without taking it all the way apart?
also has after market rear shocks. and coils looks decent. has a gate
might take the gate and fab a basket for my molly. make a swinging basket out of the stock one.
theres an infinity qx4 there. i wanna see if theres anything in the suspension that i could use. as well as an explorer which i will be jacking the springs from for sure.
and another white 92 4runner that might have some random ˟˟˟˟.
but a huge score now that they told me. and i guess he always has like 2 4runners there at all times. so thats actually kinda a relief knowing.
anyways. im busy all this week but this coming weekend i should be getting to real work with my molly.

I had a friend from my 'Mud days who'd swapped out his slushbox for an R150. It's a process, I won't lie. You'll need the transmission, and if your original T-case is an H-series model, a donor t-case as well. Pedal bucket, master and slave cylinder, tubing.
It's do-able, and I know a shop that specializes in swaps like these.

Update:
Buckled down and finally fixed the wobbly tired. It was a bad rim after an epiphany and like 2hrs of work

Getting exhaust patched so I can drive up to Susanville on the 4th of april taking i5 to red bluff on the 2nd if anyone is going to north east cali. But as for exhaust. I'm going to do true duals since our neighboring city doesn't have smog and I'm going to register the truck there.

As for today. I have no gas due to my anorexic wallet :/ but I'm trying to fill jet tank and take her out as I write. Wish me luck

Tuned her up a little. Cleaned the rotor Cuzco autozone sold me the wrong one. But the distributor cap and Bosch ignition wires got put in and I went out on a limb and tried the E3 spark plugs and the tune up was much needed just need the dual pipes since I just got some good news. I'm moving to Maui. Will be cleaning out my truck for pick up and it should be to me about two weeks after I arrive.
