Clocklaw's 1995 4Runner Build-Up Thread

I am not planning to do anything too extreme to the old girl, for now just trying to put together some reliable transportation.

Started out with your basic 1995:

Cameron & I started working...the end of the first day was frustrating:

From: Bryan Tx,
looks like you are going to have to take that to a machine shop or find a replacement. What ever you do it will be worth it in the end so keep your head up, otherwise that 4runner looks pretty clean from what I saw.

I was on my way home from a hockey game (almost 1,000 miles on the new engine now)....and the engine caught fire (no pictures, I was too busy trying to get the fire out). Well, turns out that a vacuum line was laying on the exhaust manifold and caught fire. A good samaritan stopped and had a case of bottled water in his truck. We got the fire out and I zip-tied the vacuum lines off to get home. I noticed on the ride home that the exhaust was leaking on the same side as the fire...so I started looking around and eventually discovered this:

It appears that the water cooled the manifold too quickly and warped it:

I wish I could take a day or two off from work to put it on...probably going to be the weekend before I have the time to install it.

The oil pickup was almost completely clogged when I got the oilpan off....so bad that it sucked the screen up into the pickup tube....I am wondering if the P.O. ever changed the oil.

I can absolutely see that happening. The exhaust system did a pretty good job of that already...probably no new toys for a quarter or so.
