To get your old tps to fit on the newer TB you have to swap out the horizontal tps thingy (real technical here) for the earlier verticle one or the tps wont fit. Here you can see the difference.

I got it running and it idled kinda high at 2k rpm, plus it was spewing coolant out so it seems I need a smaller hose than what I bought. Cheap fix. I cranked the idle screw fully clockwise and it dropped to 1700-1800 ish rpm. Hmmm... I wonder if I have the coolant hoses mixed up... any other ideas? Well, heres a pic of it all buttoned up.

I can't stop now I'll have to blast and clear coat the AFM too. Cheers.

Looks good bud. Coming along nicely. Glad I could help with the rocker.

Nice to know that you can swap the sensors like that.

On the rpm, is the return spring setup on the TB the same as the old TB. Could it be sticking? Take a peek at the adjustment for that on the side left side of the TB. Mine sticks sometimes and has the same symptoms.

You probably already did this... But did you setup the TPS according to 4crawler site? Or FSM?

Just a thought

It was great meeting you today pat. Glad I could get some of my old parts to someone that's going to revive them. That engine is going to be the perfect candidate for a full rebuild.

An what a great engine,22re, to learn on.

We all need to get together, Chris, kelvin, Kyle, and I, sometime and do some wheeling

Right back atcha Mark. I'm kinda jealous of your shop! Lol, and I definitely think a tuttle trip with all of us will happen sooner or later. We'll need CB's!

Trucks finally driveable again! Pretty excited. Haven't replaced the rocker assy yet but the intake mods are done and working.

Drove it around for a bit. Couldn't really tell a difference in performance, but I didn't really expect to. Worth a try though and I'm mainly glad I got to repaint everything. It looks awesome now. Something I'm proud to pop the hood for.

Another b4 and after:

I did buy a 22re motor from Gizler over the weekend so the plan is to change out the cracked rocker on my current engine, and then build up this other 22re all winter. Then transplant it in spring. Oh yah!

Nice work Pat. The engine bay looks so much cleaner. I'm jealous of your nice shiny 22re sticker. I need to get me one!!

Thanks guys. I thought I solved the higher idle issue yesterday by adjusting the throttle cable to allow the flapper to fully close, but I just started it up on lunch and its still high. When I look at 4crawlers TPS adjustment instructions I just say "F that!" Looks way too technical. With engine running I slid the tps through all setting ranges. Didn't change anything. Confused. Aaargh.

Edit: after it warms up it drops the idle down to 800rpm. So thats good. How high on a cold start do you guys rev?

Ok good. Thats exactly what mines doing now. Before it was almost 3k! I guess I'll jump those terminals and see if it idles down to see if the tps is working correctly. I ordered roger browns TPS allen screws cuz I'm lazy and that way I can adjust it without removing the TB.

I discovered the passenger side bolt for this is just sitting in the hole completely loose. Either wrong bolt or totally stripped out. Another gift from the PO.

I need to get those Allen heads also for my TPS

I hear you on the PO stuff. Always interesting what you might find.

Bolt could be broken in the intake also. If so, easy fix. I have an extra lower intake if you have troubles with that bolt and need to swap one in.

that being loose/broke, im surprised it hasnt lost coolant or overheated. this may be your idle issue. if air gets in the system the steam may hit the coolant sensor and spike the temps that the ecu sees and attempts to compensate for.

Well, when I drained and refilled the coolant during my cam install I never ran it with the radiator cap off. I just read about that method of releasing air bubbles today....

That could totally be it.

I always fire it back up with the cap off, and raise the front up higher than the rest of the cooling system. Let it run like that till operating temp.

It is idling normal now though. I think maybe my old air flow valve system was faulty because it never did rev higher on cold starts. So my new throttle body with the newer built in AFV design actually works. Warms up at 1800-ish rpm and after its warm drops to 800. But getting the possible air outta my radiator couldn't hurt I'm sure!

The torque spec on the thermostat is very low, alota people over tighten them or strip out the threads,as for the throttle position sensor adjustment, you would t ever get it in spec by just turning the sensor,I'd follow 4crawler instructions, also helps if u get a pigtail from the scrapyard to plug into the tips with a multimeter instead of shoving wires in the sensor.
By the way your intake and air filter look great.
