Went to upullit and saw an sr5 1st gen 4runner. I was all excited. Then I opened the door and the gauge cluster was gone. Damn. I might hafta start going every weekend. I was thinkin about just swapping the entire dash from a 3rd gen pickup over because I find sr5 gauges galore for 3rd gens, and I'm tired of not being able to use them! I did see a grey dash from a 91 and almost took it.... should have. I just don't know how it swaps over. And my dash is in like new condition. I snagged 2 good tail light lenses. One of mine had a hole in it and they look kinda dark.
I was thinkin until I find an sr5 gauge I could get a pillar pod. I'd set it up something like this.
I figure if I do find an sr5 gauge later I can just find 2 different gauges to put in it then. Monitor something else.

Woops! I put in a bid on ebay for an sr5 cluster totally not thinking I'd win. Idk y I even did it, but... I won it.
Doh! Oh well, aint as cheap as a junkyard find but its way cheaper than the $200 I've seen other ebay items listed at.

sr5 gauge swap
I recieved the gauge in the mail today. Cleaned it up and put it in. I wanted to wind the odometer, but the speedo needle didnt want to come off so instead of breaking my $75 gauge for that small detail I'll live with the 18k difference.
Of course we all know what it looks like, but I try & always post a pic with an update. Wow though, this mods been on the list for 2 years now. Finally done. Feels good.
I did have trouble removing the oil light sensor thing so I could replace it with the pressure sender. Its in a tough to reach spot and I just said hell with it just leave it unplugged. Anyone got tips for removing that?? Other than that all else works great. Speedo is good (gps verified) so I'm happy!
Of course we all know what it looks like, but I try & always post a pic with an update. Wow though, this mods been on the list for 2 years now. Finally done. Feels good.

FYI the sr5 gauge uses 3 bulbs to light the main gauges while the base model uses 2. So if your running special colored LED's like me you'll need to order another one. My advice is use superbrightleds.com they arent the cheapest, but the quality is worth it. I've had only bad luck with ebay cheapos. Now, off to find that special socket!

Put in some resistors I had laying around for my motorcycle led turn signals to stop the fast blink of my trucks front turn signals that I put in the corner lights, but it didnt work.
must not be enough resistance for these smaller bulbs. Hmm...

Replaced the front right bearings today. First time. Went well. I love how much Im learning to do on this truck with the help of yotatech of course!

That's the rod for the brake load sensing proportioning valve. LSPV. , just came to me. I forget what the acronym for it is. I know some guys eliminate it. I'm not well versed in how it actually works, or what purpose it serves

Thanks. Did some quick research.
Lspv - the load sensing proportioning valve senses the load of the vehicle (extra weight placed in the back) and applies an effective pressure to the rear brakes to compensate.
So that's actually pretty cool. I see plenty of axles without it, and was gonna chop it off. However, I do towing and hauling a lot so it's staying. Looks like I might want to make sure its calibrated right.
I had a small oil leak from my half moon seals under my valve cover because I didn't rtv them b4. So I fixed that. Then decided to repaint my valve cover. Doing it right and blasting it tomorrow. Stay tuned.

My first time blasting something. It reminded me of mission impossible 2. When he's handling those viruses in the lab. Haha. Im thinking of clearcoating it I like the blasted aluminum look.

And yah I may be overly enthusiastic. I spend hours every day researching and planning mods. Its just something I really enjoy. Wife thinks I put the truck before other "more important" things.

Nice score on the SR5 gauge cluster, I can never find them for that cheap! For your turbo blink LED turn signals you can remove a resister from your turn signal flasher relay, that's what I did on mine:
