got some more goodies today!! picked up the trunnion bearing eliminator kit. Also got my dash painted. it looks pretty good. I was having issues with the trunnion bearings not being smooth, seemed like I had a spot where they were loose then they were tight the rest of the turn. I took it apart and cleaned the seats where the new bushings will go and then put them in.

next I had to press out the steering pin and press in the new pivot. it was tough but i got it.

next i had to shim the top to get the correct preload. I ended up with around 18-20lbs preload. calls for 15-25lbs so should be good there.

next I put on my rock rings and new wiper seals. these are the TG HD wiper seals. they seem like good seals. time will tell.

ok I pulled the pinion and measured the shim again and it was actually closer to 80 so I measured and remeasured till i got a 078 shim and went with that and below are the paint marks, this is where it will stay. I made some tools to tighten the side carrier bearing caps tightend both till i got the .007 backlash then i tightened each one little by little till they were tight, put the torque wrench on them with 150lbs and good to go, also did the pinion 150lbs with red loctite and hit in the indent. ready to paint and install. here are a few pics.

not the preetiest but they work!!!

drive side pics

coast side pics

Pinion pics

let me know what you think!!!! ZUK??

Been a while since i made any updates but here we go, I am getting close to having the complete axle, I purchased some 98 tacoma rotors and then had the IFS hubs turned down to let the rotor fit over the top of the hub, no more bolting the rotor to the back of the hub. now I just need to get a set of IFS V6 calipers to make it complete. I installed the E-Locker and the axle shafts and then the spindles. here are a few more pics.

pic of full axle with diff installed

Spindle installed. also installed new bushings in the spindle.

new tacoma rotors off 98 4x4 tacoma

Hub machined down to fit rotor. should be true, used bearing races to mount hub to lathe.

final product, rotor fit purfect over hub. one more thing off the list .

didnt need to do any mods, it clears the spring perch but the ubolt may be a pain to get on, I may have to get out the dremel when i get to that point. truck mods are on hold for now due to fund issues so i will just wheel it as is for now. its been alot of work but i enjoy my runner for sure.

I have done a couple of things to the rig before the end of the year. I installed a 12si chevy alternator and I installed a 8" sub and amps. I have wrote up a alt install but will go through it here on my build page. I picked up the alt at the salvage yard for 18 bucks on half price day. it looked in good condition and had the autozone label on it and from that I was able to tell that it was the 94 Amp version. I had to make a custom uper bracket and also for the lower mount I had to install some spacers. For the upper I found in my stash a bracket from a ford 260 v8 that i had and it lookd right but that the bolt slot was too big, i cut off the slot from the OEM bracket and welded it on the ford braket and it worked perfect. I changed the battery and terminals at the same time. also installed #2 welding cable from the alt to battery and battery to chassis and block.

as for the sub I purchased an 8" sub and made a custom box for it to fit in the rear passenger quarter panel. The box is 14x14x7" and sounds great. I also installed some sound deadening material on the bed sides. I used a bazooka amp that I had to power the Sub and I bought a 4 channel amp to power the front and rear speakers. I installe some new 4" speakers in the dash and tweeters on the dash, as for the rears I wanted to get some pod speakers but too much money so i came across some small box speakers with mounts that I put on the roll bar. they sound really good. Here is a few pics of the sound setup.

Thats about all i did so far, hopeing to do some more work in a couple of months. the alt swap was well worth it.

On another thread a guy used a 93-97 jaguar denso 210-0406 alternator 140 amp plug- and-play after changing pullies, jag uses serpentine while toy uses v-belts, he says it uses the same wire plug in as the toy uses, just throwing that out there for anybody who wants to upgrade :}

Ps. Looks identical to the toy alternator and no bracket alterating needed if I remember right...
