Im not sure when Ill do it, but its going to happen. I will be tapping the steering box when I rebuild it. Ill just plug the holes for now.

I ended up ordering a Napa rebuild kit for the steering box. I dont think it comes with the input shaft seal, so I ordered one of them also from Napa. Also, while reading install instructions for the B&M shifter, I notice that I needed another couple brackets to fit the 4l60e trans. So I ordered that too. The radiator should be here tomorrow, so I might try to get that mounted Thursday. This evening, Im planning on making some mods to the headers to make them work.

 

Sweet, sounds like like you're getting the parts rounded up to knock some of the major projects out of the way!
When you rebuild your steering box, do you think you can get some good pics of where to drill and tap for the hydro assist? That's something I'd be interested in seeing for a future mod if its not to much trouble.

Yup, Im tryin to gather all the parts I can. I will do my best to get some good pics, but the video below shows alot (which is the video I will be using to do mine...that guy just finished up putting 4.3 in his truck also, so Im using his thread he has on pirate alot lol)

Didn't get a lot done but I did remove the rear heater and cut the tunnel for the tcase shifter to fit. I also found a problem. Doesn't look like I'll be able to fit the trans shifter in front of the tcase shifter. I may have to mount it behind it. I'll know more tomorrow when the shifter makes it in. I have a pic of the shifter installed but it's not uploading to photobucket for some reason. I'll add it later.

I may have cut the hole a little too big but that's okay. I'm gonna make a cover for it.

I also start looking at my exhaust. I decided to cut the collector flange off the driver side and add some tube to it to get it further down. I believe the passenger side will work just fine. I'm gonna order some tubing tomorrow to get that project moving.

 

We just did that to a 4runner auto to a w56.it will work.

Yeah Im saying with auto. Although I have asked my self why several times. The gm auto is huge compared to any yota trans. I could really use a body lift so I can get the drivetrain a little higher, but Im not gonna do it.

I was gonna post these pictures with my next update since I should get shop time this evening, but since Im already repling I figured why not.

My new radiator came in from Speedway. Its a universal 22x19 chevy radiator


And my B&M sport shifter came in.


Im curious to see how the shifter is gonna fit. Should find out tonite.

 

Nice! I love getting new parts! That B&M shifter is going to look sweet installed! That's a nice looking radiator as well! I still need to get my radiator installed, still need to order a cap for it and a universal mounting bracket too. I noticed that your radiator doesn't have any kind of flange on the sides either, did you have to buy a mounting bracket or are you just going to build your own?

Im gonna build my own. Havent quite figured out if Im gonna mimic the universal style mounts or build something different. Gotta do a little more research and lilttle more head scratchin lol

 

I hear ya, I have a hard time spending 50 bucks on a universal mount from the company I bought my radiator from, but then again it might save a lot of head scratchin, lol... I been looking for those [ shaped radiator support pads, found a bunch, just not sure if they'll fit.

Nice parts!!!I'd try not to hack up your factory radiator support if at all possible.I used to work at speedway,some parts are good stuff,other parts are Chinese crap.

Most speedway brand is china,afco,bilstein,b&m,etc...your good to go. I went with a Ron Davis radiator which was very nice.I'm sure yours will be fine as long as its mounted good.

 

Well I got the shifter in it's sweet spot. Ended up mounting it behind the tcase shifter. Messes me up for duals but I'll worry about if I do it. I'll either swap to a top shift case (I think I can fit the shifter in front then) or I'll do forward triple sticks. Not sure that's been done but I don't see why it can't. I actually like the position of the trans shifter. It's comfortable. If I move it any more forward it starts to become a uncomfortable.

I started looking at the radiator mounting and realized I needed to have my steering box mounted. So I'm working on cutting the core support now to get it forward enough. I'm trying to keep the cuts clean looking so it's taking a little longer.

I started tearing down the steering box to change the seals and tap it. I'm having a tough time getting a lock nut off to get to the input seal. Had me pretty aggravated last night. I'm gonna try again next time I'm in the shop. If I don't get it, I'm prolly just gonna order one.

 

Well I finally got that nut off, change the input seal, and put that assembly back together. I even got all the balls back in, which was nowhere near as hard as ppl make it out to be. Still have to drill and tap the case and then put it back together. Planning on that Saturday morning.

Got it the input assembly apart and cleaned it up in the parts washer


Got the nut back on. Notice how butchered it is from the punch. I'll never do that again. I'll either buy the correct tool or have it done lol


This one is before I put the balls back in. I just worked them thru the holes where the little tube goes. Not too hard IMO. Let's see how long the box last tho lol

 

I got the steering box back together and the new pitman arm installed. Tomorrow I plan to build the mounting plates and finish cutting the radiator core support.
