BCstuntman's Build Thread

I bought this 86 4runner last summer. When I bought it, it had 99,000 miles on it with a lot of rust. I wanted a fun trail rig for the summer in the mountain and that is what it became. The minute I was able to get the rear window down, the top came off and stayed off until it snowed. It is stock 22re with 31's. Small oil leak and a couple of minor problems. I plan on slowly building it to make a more trail worthy rig over the next couple years. So far I have added a free brush guard from a neighbor. Had a friend weld on a rear bumper as well as some frame welding.

Recently I took the front drive shaft off to replace a U-joint because of some knocking. Found out that it was not the U-joint and was just broken. Now looking for a replacement.

Today I installed a new thermostat because the temp gauge was not working but that was not the problem. Bought a new senser but ran out of light. Hopefully I will have some success with something tomorrow. Maybe even install the master cylinder that I have had for 6 months.

Thanks. I like it too but since different panels are fading and some off it is peeling, I am going to paint it olive drab. I wish I could restore the original color but that would be more than I would like to spend.

So I attempted to replace the temp sensor. Before I pulled it out I decided to check if there is electricity with a light meter. I got nothing. So instead now I think it may be wiring. Sweet.

It was great twisted! It was my first weekend with the runner, first time ever driving off road and it was my birthday. I still won't wash the dried mud off the ceiling just to remind me of how much fun I had that day.

Haven't been able to work on it lately. It started to snow again. Hopefully it will be nice out so I can start ripping the dash apart to trace wiring. Also plan on taking the interior out so I can start to prep for Herculiner.

Ordered my 12" 125 lb coil springs today to do the Zuk Mod. It will be awhile before I can get it to the shop to install but can't wait for the day to do it.

Changed out the wheels and tires a few days ago so I can put new tires on the alloy's. When leaving the shop I threw some belt dressing on one of the belts and when I got back in the runner, my temp gauge started to move, weird. When I drove it back to my house it started moving up and then all the way down, must have some air bubbles from when I changed the thermostat.

I now have all the interior pulled except for the driver seat. Cleaned out all the leaves, bark and dirt that was left from last summer. Now it is ready to start prepping for the Herculiner. I hope to lay it down the first week of April.

When pulling the interior panels in the back, I noticed that there was a sensor where one of the topper bolts goes into. There was no bolt in that hole. So I pulled a bolt from another hole, installed it in the sensor, Plugged the rear window switches back in and holy crap, my rear window goes up and down all day long. Freakin Awsome!!!!!

So after all that today, I had to take her for a drive. Decided to go up Battle Mtn Pass to see what the temp gauge would do. Everything is working great, Good temperture readings, I guess.

I will have some pics up soon of the cleaning and prepping process soon.

So it's been awhile since I have been on here. I get to work on the runner a couple hours a day depending on weather. I have taken all the noise reduction panels off the floor, originally I wanted to keep them but some of them pulled right up due to moisture.

I should have used a chisel but the screwdriver was surprisingly easy.

My tires showed up the other day, very excited about them. Treadwright 31x10.50 Crawler.

The old BFG a/t on my alloys.

I have the TW mounted and on the runner but since I put them on it has been snowing like crazy and havent really taken any pics. But man do they look good. I will post more pics soon.

I ordered my herculiner last night so hopefully that will be put on in a couple weeks, still have more prepping to do.

Junkyard Visit

Went to a pick and pull and got some goodies for the runner.
-passenger mirror
-4 door hinges to attempt to make quick releases
-wiper arm
-deck light to add to other side

Then went to a Yota yard.
-pair of sr5 sport seats
-front drive shaft
-15 inch alloy wheel for spare
-and a parking brake cable that does not go with my runner I later found out.

I have been prepping for the hurculiner for what it seems like months but I am all finshed and ready to apply the black stuff. Very excited to get this done so I can drive her. Then it will be off to install the drive shaft and do a Zuk mod.

Pics will be up soon....

Update

It's been a while since I have been on here. Works been busy and when I'm not there I am either working on the runner or driving her.

I ended up using Herculiner on the floor boards and cargo area. Some pictures of prep work and after.

It turned out really good. Very happy with the product. Once the weather starts getting better I plan to clean the cargo area and painting the surface to reduce fading.

I did a Zuk Mod with the 12 inch 125lbs coil springs and ended up getting about 3 inches of lift in the rear. The ride is smoother and except for a few creaks it feels great on pavement and dirt.

A broken u bolt and what was left of the bump stops.
[IMG][/IMG]
A buddy of mine welded up some brackets to slip under the u-bolts while I cut the top of the bump stops.

It was really nice the days after the mod, so I decided to take her out and break some trail. Minturn Shooting range 4-16-11

[IMG][/IMG]
Next was to get rid of that red paint. I choose a flat olive drab spray paint. That day I had to take her out and get her dirty. Cottonwood Pass 5-7-11
[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG]
Next was Muddy Pass the next day. It was muddy.
[IMG][/IMG]
We went back to Cottowood Pass a few days later and it was the first time I went wheeling with the top on since I bought it. Winter hasnt left yet and so it might be a little bit longer before I pull it again for the summer. Its a good thing anyways because it was really muddy.

Thats it for now, I will try and post more pictures soon. Next is new brake drums for the rear so I can have parking brake. Install some rear speakers and hopefully get a new rear bumper with a spare tire swing gate.
