That would be cool, but I'd rather not cut up the bed.

Yeah, that chain system isn't doing anyone any favors. If I had on board air and just so happened to have a cutoff wheel on me during an emergency, then I would've been fine

I've seen a couple really cool mounts for the tire ON TOP of the roll bar... There's a piece they added, IIRC, to join the roll bar back rails, which made '2' points for mounting the tire on top, then a t-bar that turns those 2 cross bars into an ........."H" ??? hahaha. They had a cup on top for the bolt to go through and then a large washer and locking bolt on the bottom.... Just a thought. haha.

I believe this cross bar support thing also served as a mount for a Yakima Load Warrior on the same rig... then he still could run the H bar for under neath and put the bolt through the cage and secure the tire to the Yakima cage, rather than simply sitting on the cross bars.

Best wishes, you'll come up with something cool, I know it!

Today, I'm off and I got bored, so I pulled my spare 32" tire out of the back corner of the garage and started toying with some idears.

I know I'll most likely put it in the bed, so that's where I started. Here's some of what I came up with. Keep in mind, that it will be mounted on a rim at some point.

Then, I got a little creative...thinking maybe I could install a 4Runner tire mount or something.

As always, I became unfocused after a while and starting messing around...

Land Rover Style!

Too bad I couldn't see anything...

I think I like this the best. It may take up the most room, but it doesn't catch your eye at first glance, it doesn't block rearward view, and it doesn't interfere with the tailgate or anything.

Nothing is final yet. Once, I find a rollbar, I will have more to play around with.

ROOF! But, back a lil bit, ON the roll bar with a cross bar THAT WAY;

1. You get to keep your bed almost FULLY free!

2. YOU CAN SEE WITH IT MOUNTED THERE! hahaha.

I think you should cut up the sides of your bed and do some fab work to mount on 2 spares on each side. Kind like a classic car. Pffffffft! Hell Nah jk. I like the way it looks on the roof as well. Get churself a nice little roof basket big enough for that spare.

The roof mount doesn't look bad. The only thing I see wrong is that it would cause a ton of drag at highways speeds. Remember that I travel 60 miles round trip to college everyday Also, I'd rather not drill into the roof to install it because of leaks. That's why I decided not to install a Lund Moonvisor.

In other news, I took the truck up to a Cruise-in at the Pennsylvania Amish Market in Shrewsbury. My dad and I would have taken his 72 Nova, but it looked like it was going to rain. Fortunately, it cleared up and the show had a great turnout. They were still coming in like crazy when I left.

I was in the middle of all the action

Usually, there is someone with a mostly stock red '87 or '88 Xtra-Cab pickup at the show. He wasn't there, so I was the only Toyota there. If you live in southern York County, PA or northern Baltimore County, MD you should come by. They have shows the 4th friday of every month. It is one of the biggest shows/cruise-ins in the region, so if you're in this region, you probably already know about it. If not, here's their site: http://www.marketsatshrewsbury.com/events.htm It looks like they're having one the second friday of August, too.

I scrapped the idea for KC Daylighters on the rollbar. They're just too expensive. I'm thinking of getting either Hella 500ff or 700ff. Which do you guys and gals recommend? I'd also like to replace my cheap-o Walmart driving lights with 500ffs.

Does anyone know much about LED H3 bulbs, such as this 28 LED bulb: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-360-Car-H...ht_2972wt_1037 or this 68 LED bulb: http://www.ebay.com/itm/H3-Car-68-SM...ht_3700wt_1037 ? I was thinking about installing these in my driving lights in the front. I feel like they would create less heat and draw less amps. How can you tell how they compare to a regular 55w or 100w bulb? They never have anything in terms of wattage. Don't mind me if this is a stupid question. I'm no electrical guru.

So, I've been thinking about scrapping the roll bar plan and going with a Carr M Profile roof light bar and buying 2 Hella 500ff lights for the bar and either 2 500ffs or 2 550s for the valance, probably the 550s because they'll fit better. I just really want to get rid of those $20 lights. The only downside I've read is that there is a drop in fuel economy when installing a roof bar.

For those who have roof bars or roof racks, do they truly create a significant amount of drag to the point where you lose gas mileage?

The other question, what would look better on my truck? The black Carr light bar or the stainless?

I was thinking of either the roof mount or doing the side mirror mount: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...a-500s-163291/

Comments? Opinions? Always appreciated

That's a cool mod... i read that page before. SICK front bumper, too... Very cool 2nd Gen, that one. What are those REALLY expensive lights that people use on their motorcycles, Expo Rigs, etc? some are like 400$ each? Drawing a blank.... You could put those, but it'd probably melt anything plastic in the mirror! hahaha. Jk...

Roof racks, MORE SO than Light bars, DO use more gas.... especially on long highway trips into the desert like I do.... I'm sure Light Bars use some as well.. but I'd doubt as much.

Anxious to see what you do, either way.... Make sure it's clean to match that CLEAN BEAST! haha.

I'm in the midst of purchasing some Aisin hubs from Resto-noob. Hopefully I'll pick up 1 or 2 MPG. I'll have to buy some gaskets from WabFab and some stainless steel bolts from work...oh, and some more Ace Rust Stop Regal Red Gloss and Satin Black from work

I also took off my front tow hook and loops and painted them, however the bolts stripped when I tried to put them back on. And of course I don't have a tap that large to put in new threads...which is freaking classic...so I'll have to get new bolts and a tap at work tomorrow. Hopefully, I can get to the junkyard soon so I can buy another hook for the drivers side...that and a passenger door ashtray and a steering column cover since mine broke from all mounting locations and is currently flopping around. How do you get those covers off?

I was so scared the minute after I took I finished disassembling the first hub. I started working on the second one and immediately thought "Hey, I forgot about the little spring and ball on the dial...oh crap". So I went to look and see if I lost them both, but they were both still stuck in the dial. I pulled them out and put them in a little container. But for a minute there I thought they were goners.

Yeah, that's an actual FSM book. It's all knowing and powerful

By the small spring, do you mean the tension spring on the fowler pawl? If so, I think I can help you out. I have yet to take those springs off the pawl.

This might be what you're talking about Chef. This is the only part I haven't taken apart yet.

If I had known you were tearing them apart, I would have sent you the broken one! I kid, nice to see them end up with a good home.

For the record, I know nothing about the mystery yellow grease....

Ha! Chef, I'm glad you told me to post those pictures up. I was having doubts when putting the tension spring back into the clutch and follower pawl, so I had to go back and look at the pictures, too!
