Sorry to hear about your grandpa passing.Looks like you had some great times with him growing up. His memory will live on in the 4 runner that you're restoring.
Figured i would post an update here since it has been a while. I still lurk the forums daily, just haven't worked on the truck. Our work has new owners and I've been working alot, plus i have been getting a bit of side appliance work. In fact i have so many appliances in my garage i have to move the truck out just to work on the appliances.
I fixed my temp gauge this week, new sensor and tightening the screws on the circuit board did the trick. Great piece of mind knowing.
i replaced the o2 sensor as my old one tested bad. Put in a denso unit.
i went ahead and changed the engine temp sender as well, that makes all coolant sensors new.
I'm still chasing down a strange hard start that only happens after it has sat for a while. I'm thinking my cold start injector is leaking into the intake and flooding. Every time it starts after this problem i get a cloud of smoke and a strong raw fuel smell.
I also get a weird low rpm bog when first driving that goes away within a few minutes of driving. Maybe my tps is giving trouble, i did a hack fix to it before that may have failed.
Well i worked a bit today trying to figure out some of the engine issues. I jumped the fuel pump and immediately got a fuel smell, i get a strong smell from the intake manifold but could not find a leak anywhere. I stuck a paper towel into all the cylinders and the intake and ran the fuel pump but none of the towels came up with fuel on them.
i don't know when or if I'll find the fuel issue. Ill have to get a fuel pressure gauge and see how the fpr is holding.
i put a new battery in and took a pic of the spark plugs after about 300 miles. They look great.
