no it doesnt happen often. i would say definately go to a junkyard and buy both rear axles out of a truck to have a spare.

make sure you buy an 86 and up set of axles b/c they are longer and the earlier ones will not fit.

Yea i understand the rear axles on the 86+ are longer, im just debating upgrading now, if its even necessary. Probably not. Ill most likely get a used one from a junkyard

Wow 904runner....that is an unusual break. The only things I can think of that might cause that are super-wide aluminum wheel spacers.....or you had a drum lock up (in the past?) on that side causing a ton of heat and it lost its temper.

Anyways, I will do surgery on your 3rd tonight.

ya it was really weird when i was foloing him back to his house to pull the third, his wheel was leaning and my immediate thought was that he broke his axle shaft, but its od because this doesnt often happen. oh and i know he doesnt have any wheel spacers, not sure about the brake though. prolly cause hes a terrible driver lol jk.

The pic display mode is not friendly to me so I will save them all and make a link up quick.

The carrier bearing pulled off with just my finger power....left like this it would eventually destroy the case and possibly the Yukon ring and pinion. Back to work

904runner or anybody else....

shoot me an email address and I will send the whole stack of pics.

Pinion was too deep...there were 2 shims (.077" and .0125") that totaled .0895". I just stepped it down 5 thou to .084" and it's still too deep and I'm almost positive when I change it again to .0805" that it will be sweet or slightly deep(my generally preferred depth).

back to work.
