4wdYotaBoy's 1988 4runner a broke 16 year old who can't afford to build it but is

So started with a 1988 4 runner I found on Craigslist for $1750. (No my dad did not pay a single penny of it I started trading cars and trucks around mad one cash. It already had 4 inch rough country lift and 3 inch body. Brand new 31x10.5s. 3.0 5 speed 177,000 miles when I got it. Had one dent on it and was very minor. Drove it home. Did valve cover gaskets and if you know about the stupid plenum it took me and my dad 6 or 7 hours to do. I also cleaned all of it and did some other gaskets also. Continued to daily drive drove a few long trips always worrying if the timing belt was any good. Had a wheel bearing go bad so replaced it one day. So after about 4 months and 4,500 miles after I got I the water pump goes out replace all belt tentioners and pump. Now back to driving I am working on building a 1 1/2 square tube 11 gauge bumper with a half stinger and make it look some what pretty and fitting the truck. Have materials and the design just gotta have the time. But future plans are
1. 33x12.5 (suggestions?)
2. Sas
3. Better sliders and start exo cage
4. Soft top (this could easily be number 1)
5. Some sort of engine swap not sure I I'd go with a sbc or another yota motor possibly even a deisel just what ever turns up I've got less than $2500 in a truck that will last forever not a bad deal any. Suggestions let me know. I may work on it every other weekend but it's my baby.

Also would love to cut the top and make like an avalanche style bed on it it suck not having a bed. So a 3-4 foot bed is better than nothing put truck tailgate on and cut the top on the c pillar

'm doing the same thing except i have an 87.

one thing to do is put bed liner on the floor if your carpets trashed. I put in Herculiner cost $80 and was able to do the interior, and front bumper.

have fun making your bumpers. its a good learning experience, and fun, but it takes a lot of work.

have you done any small mods?

I'm interested in seeing where this goes as I am a 15 year old(not broke though) and I have always loved 4runners. Post some pics

As for a motor suggestions a yota 3.4 is a pretty damn good motor

Your right about the 3.4L. They'll last forever. a guy at were i work has around 260,000 on his 2002 taco. I've been wanting to install the drive train from a 1996 runner with a 3.4 into my rig.

I'm trying to figure out posting pictures, I'll try tomorrow.

When I was car shopping I saw a 199 taco with 496000 miles on the clock. Pretty impressive

Here is the photos, hope it works.

I've been thinking about taking out the rear seats and putting in a truck tool box, then building a wooden box that goes behind the front seats for my speakers. Or pulling out one rear seat and putting a box there.

i currently have no panels from the doors back and am looking for storage options and some security for when the top is off.

Any Ideas?

I've never seen anybody use a toolbox back there before, I need to come up with something the interior wasn't in the best condition when I bought it.

What are you doing with your rig?
