Dude, that sucks about your motor but awesome time for a 2.7 swap! What year engine do you think you'll get? I've been looking into the idea for when mine dies. I noticed on a recent highway trip that I'm now adding a quart of oil every fill-up!

Yikes that can't be good. I don't know what year yet. The guys who are doing it are searching for a donor engine and are going to notify me when they find a candidate.

Sorry for the lack of updates fellas. Settled on a 3rz swap out of a 99 Tacoma with only 49k miles and religious service history. She left today and I will be going to pick her up in a couple of weeks!

So typical of me I am already considering my next step on the truck before the current one has finished. Have been wanting a snorkel for some time now. With my 3rz my intake will be on my passenger side. I'm wondering if anyone has any information on whether or not a taco snorkel

or 60 series cruiser one would work on my runner?

Well I got my truck back yesterday. I had a grin doing 80 all the way home. Up until about 10 miles from home. All of a sudden I start hearing a ticking as I accelerate. I check my oil to find that the stick is bare except a tiny amount on the tip. They either didn't put enough oil in it or oil is going somewhere. I had terrible gas mileage the whole way home as well. I'm pissed off that I possibly caused damage to the lifters and cam by running it with low oil. The journey was 176 miles. I don't know what to think. The truck was making incredible power and felt like a new truck. I'm just upset that I paid this extra amount to have a motor with 49k to go and run it low on oil my first drive with it. I'm really down on the dumps and don't know what I can do to find out if any damage was caused or not. I am going to change the oil and put synthetic 5-30 in after work. I will see if that fixes the tick I guess. Any other advice fellas? I could really use some right about now. Here is a picture of what I found when I checked the oil.

Talked to my boss about it (an old timer with a lot of knowledge). He told me that if I have anything on the stick that means that I'm at most 1 - 1 1/2 quarts low.

Man sorry to hear that. As long as there is oil on the stick you should have enough to not cause damage. Now it would have been making noise since it's low. But weird that it wasn't doing it all along. I would pull the VC and check the top end out. And maybe adjust the valves. Definitely would be calling them back and giving them an earful.

If it were me...
I would buy some cheap oil before changing the oil and add oil until it was at the correct level on the dip stick. Then you would know for certain how low it was. It probably wasn't low enough to damage anything. 1-1/2 quarts low won't hurt anything. You would still have enough in the pan for your pump to scavenge oil and maintain oil pressure. Don't get to discouraged until you know for sure.

X2 on this. Could be something Minor like a valve adjustment.

I had to add 2 quarts of oil to get it to where it was supposed to be. Everything seems fine now except for I have an exhaust leak. Going to try and get that sorted tomorrow.

Awesome!!!!

Exhaust leak might be contributing to your poor mileage from the drive home.

What is your guy's easiest method for finding the leak? Should I just take it to the muffler guy and have him sort it?

So they threw in a SR5 cluster I gave them to swap in for me. This is how the speedometer is acting... Any ideas on a fix?

You could put a little tranny fluid, seafoam, or marvel mystery oil into the cylinders to burn. It will smoke and you can find the leak

Like Gizler said, ATF smokes really good. Just pull the plugs, drop a little in (turn the engine over a few times with the plugs out to prevent hydro lock), and it'll smoke for a good minute.

And holy cow that speedo's going nuts! No idea man... Bad cable?

With all my engine commotion I forgot to update that I crossed another thing off my list.

1. Rear window weather strip worn (Remove/Replace)

As you can see my old one was long overdue for a replacement.

This part number is: 68160-89111

I purchased mine here
