Here is what the intake tube looks like

Cali carbed motors have two Charcoal canisters, one mounts up high near the firewall, and the other mounts below below the passenger headlight, before a battery afm swap. I put the charcoal canister mounted near the firewall and put int the bracket that was near the headlight. this was to match the hose sizes.

can you snap a shot of the wires coming out of the fuse box there?
Are they connected to a fuseble link? If they are, then they are not grounds. Sorry i'm a little late to the party.
I have an 88 22re 4Runner at my bro's house i can check for you if you need.

Great link on the LED turn signals, that's on my list to do.

As for the MPGs, I have not completely read all your swap info...but is your O2 sensor new? Any exhaust leaks? Looks like you have the supra AFM on there, is that supposed to flow more air, meaning I guess leaner. Around town I'm getting around 17 to 18. I just took a road trip around 224 miles all highway and got 20mpg, which was my best ever.

O2 is old, I'll swap that out

its the 22re AFM, I wanted to get a good base first

I have the Air injection blocked off, but it is noisy, ordering some pair block off plates from LC engineering today.

I am looking forwards to numbers closer to the 20's

I guess what I was getting at but really didn't spit out is that I've got fresh denso OEM plugs, fresh OEM dist cap and rotor, fairly new wires, good fat engine ground, new Denso O2, recent exhaust and a new cat, TG header, air blockoff plates, adjusted TPS, new air filter ... blah blah

So with all that, really 17 is about where I hit every time I measure it. I live in FL at sea level and I run the low octane which I believe is 87. I've got almost 182k miles and I know I burn a bit of oil, so I don't know how air tight my engine is, but I don't think you should be too disappointed with 16mpg. The 20mpg that I measured was nearly 100% all highway, running 65-70 and no stopping. It will be interesting when I finally get around to rebuilding this 22re I have sitting in the garage and see what kind of mileage I get on a fresh engine with the same truck.

And for comparison, I had an '83 pickup 22r that did not seem to get any better mileage.

hehe, I hear you. I guess with 16mpg you at least have some room to grow. Maybe the new O2 will give you a bump and the block off plates can't hurt.

One thing you can do on the cheap is instal a cheap A/F gauge. It will let you know how rich or lean your system is actually running. It's not as good as a wide band set up, but it will do the job.

You probably already know, but if you change to 4.56's you will increase your mpg's. I seriously debated 4.56 or 4.88. I ended up going with 4.88's, and I'm getting a solid 18 mpg. Now I wish I would have went 4.56. I believe I would have been over 20 mpg with the taller gear set.

Another you can do is run a larger tire. Moving up to 35' or 37's is going to lower you rpm's and in turn net you higher fuel mileage.

I would start with the basics, tune up, O2 sensor, then AF guage to put the final tune on the engine. Also not blocking off the EGR, but actually having a properly working EGR system will inject unburnt fuel vapor back into the cylinders, thus getting a little better mileage.

But like I said, I'm sure you know all that. You've done a great job so far, I'm sure you'll get it were you want it.

Thanks Tinman..

I do have a cheap AF gauge I can put in... just need to find some where to mount it..

4.88's are getting closer to being in.. I have two thirds under my bench both have 4.88's but one is missing teeth, I found a deal on another 3rd with 4.88's and a detroit locker. For cheaper then it would cost me to buy a ring and pinion/setup kit and spartan. I just need to finish paying it off and have a buddy check the gear pattern.

I was going to put a new OEM O2 sensor in but it turns out my spare new is a 4wire. So I'll sell that and get a single wire..

So today I put in a some new spark plugs, old ones were fouled pretty good.. I did run a tank of Injector cleaner PI. Lucas Oil I think.

I also put in some airsoft beads, we'll see how they drive on the freeway.
Video to come!

I have been getting some shaking while off the throttle.

Also my Idle is higher after the truck warms up, 500rpm while cold then 900 after the thermostat warms up.

Looks like you are making good progress. As far as mileage, it doesnt take many stops to killl your mileage. Wife couldnt believe the difference between town driving and highway. You doing alot of stop and go driving?

I hear you on trying to get the mileage up. I am looking up everything I can trying to do the same thing.

Outsane - for the low cold idle, I'm betting your IACV is either not working or not adjusted. BigBluePile made a nice writeup on how to adjust it in the tech write up section here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f128...-22r-e-228223/

The tab that moves the plate was broken on mine, so basically closed all the time meaning no cold idle. There is an on the vehicle test which involves pinching the air line going to the throttle body when engine is cold, idle should change, then letting truck warm up, pinching the line and of course idle does not change (much). You can also remove it, throw it in the freezer and look thru it, you'll see it open, let it warm up to above like 60deg(I forget the actual temp) and then you'll see it close.

Your spark plugs did look pretty gnarly, good bet you'll see better than 16mpg.

The last tank had a couple of long drives and new plugs.. just got 15.5mpg...

seems like I am going backwards... New O2 is in the mail, it may have never been replaced since it was carbed.. and only helped with emmissions..

Cory thanks for the link, my IACV is acaully just hanging right by the tubes. I cannot mount it to the intake because it hits the AC compressor... must have AC..

I'll hopefully get to use that link soon, may actually do some light wheeling this weekend.

need to a find a new smaller compressor to fix this right...

im sure your speedo isnt 100% correct to actual speed. look into getting a GPS. large size tires and diff gear ratio doesnt give accurate readings at odo. also since its a speedo cable that can be loose or worn out doesnt 100% read right as well. if you speedo needle jumps sometimes than you know your odo is correct. i always use a GPS to see how many miles i get per tank. my break in of the 4.88 gears got me 14-15mpg on a v6. hoping it get a little better after break in
