Boomtacoma's 85 Ext Cab Build up
#182
I've been doing some of the busy work as of late waiting on parts.
Burned off the old sliders and cleaned up the frame in preparation for some new ones.

Started on a little body work since I'm going to have some tube there to protect it in the future.

Got my knuckles and hubs blasted and painted the knuckles

I need to get the hubs washed out since the are full of media and reassembled. My replacement spindle came in and looks acceptable .
The D60 is fully stripped down and waiting on parts. I dropped the gears/locker off with Ray and Joe to get put together.
I cut a few pieces of DOM and added them to the lower trunnion caps to protect the grease zerks.

I dove into some more sheet metal work and cut out the portion I couldn't get straight. I will have a kickout and some cab protection with my new set of sliders when I get them put on so I decided to put a little more work into it than I originally anticipated.

It won't be perfect by any means but it will look better than it did previously.

Nice truck.
I have a 1990 pickup that hasn't ran in 15 years. Its been sitting in a garage that long. The guy said the last time it ran was 5 years ago. So I bought it and threw battery in it. I changed the oil and just wanted to see if it turned over and it does. It has 28K on both body and motor. The body is I good shape. I might need to dump it because I have no time for it. Work has been killing me. Never home to work on it. What do you think it's worth?

Nice job on the body work, it turned out really good. Are you going to exo the whole cab, or just the rear portion around the extra cab where you made your repairs?

I had intended just to do the xtra cab portion. That may change though. If I have to chop the A-pillars to get the windshield to fit I may end up running some 1.75 tubing up them and fabricate a roof rack/cage to protect all the body work. If the windshield fits as is probably not. I have been kicking around bending up some tube fenders for the front. I saw a set on an 85 a while back that really liked and my try to infringe on that design a little.

Decided to clean up my trans tunnel and cover while the interior was ripped out of the truck. It never was sealed up well the first time and didn't have any soda holders. The first version let a crap ton of heat and fumes into the cab. Hopefully this will eliminate a little of that. I built a frame out of 5/8 square tubing and cleaned up the cuts on the tunnel. The top cover comes off by removing 4 bolts that go into some nut zerts. Still doing some finishing touches on it. I need to weld it out, enlarge the hole for the crawl box and shoot a coat of paint on it.

I spent some time working on my Skys offroad front spring hanger.
Dave @ Brave Motorsports took some measurements and cut out 3 gussets and a lower piece of 3/16" plate to fully box in the hanger. The gussets key into the lower plate. These hangers are prone to bending over the course of wheeling so this is a much needed modification.

Dave saved the CAD file and will be offering these through his website.

I've been slowly getting together the font end. The D60 is almost there. Just waiting on my disc brakes to show up.

I almost have the tube bed where I want it as well. I added some perpendicular bed rails and have enough room for a full size spare.

Got my 37s sold on Saturday

I picked up the Lakesea Big Rock 40s last night.

Got a little accomplished tonight.
New pitman arm with the Chevy DL taper installed and centered up fairly close. I finished drilling out my front hanger with a dull as drill bit. Had to do that to prove a point to myself and I wasn't spending 20 bucks for a bit I was going to use once. I got my hydro assist mocked up and disc brake brackets installed akin with the spindles. Just waiting on my wheel studs so I can finish assembling the 60.

I got the axle leveled out and tacked in my driver side spring perch so I can start fitting the front hanger in place.

Picked up my 14 bolt yesterday . Got to cutting on it tonight.
Welded up the shock mounts from Chassis Unlimited.

Removed hubs. Began the clean up.

Barnes diff cover before.

After

All brackets off little bit of grinding left.

Next on the list: clean up hubs, re pack with grease, install disc brakes, pinion guard, brake lines and tabs, axle perches....
Should have it in by the end of the weekend..

Thanks man.
I been finishing up some odds and ends while waiting on some parts to show up.
I added a piece of 1/4" plate in the rear of the front spring hanger and got it burned in to add a little more strength to that area. It made it a ton easier to get a good weld. After that I painted everything up in that area.
Got my trimmed up grille installed for the first time in almost 3 years.

Started on my rear traction bar cross member. It's approximately 36" wide made of 2x3 .25 wt rectangle tubing with 3/16 scab plates for the frame. The Chevy 63s are prone to tons of axle wrap. It was bad before and I assume it will be worse now with the increased unsprung weight of the 14b and 40s.

Waiting on my sliders, traction bar parts and some one ton brake parts to show up.
