Ok, I'll look around for a long frame. My biggest objection is that I don't have everything needed to pull the motor and body and get down to bare frame to rebuild the truck. I live in an apartment right now.

I'm definitely not trail riding on the frame as it is. I don't want to park the truck and let it sit though. I don't really DD it, maybe once a week. You guys think I can get away with that until I find a frame?

That's up to you my friend
When it bends and your bed touches the cab or your rear springs decide they don't like their position anymore we don't want to hear but you guys said it would be cool

Do you think it will hold
Snag that spring mount on a rock and you'll be looking for things to hold it together just to get it off the trail

On road only driving. I'm keeping it on pavement until I'm confident I won't snap that section on a bad jolt trail riding.

I know it's a risk, I'm just trying to determine how large a risk. I wouldn't blame some guy on the internet for a choice I made. I'm a grownup. I'm not talking about using it daily, just will it hold enough for me to run the motor and drivetrain once a week so it's not just sitting.

You need to find a friend with a garage. These are not the kind of trucks that you can own without a place to work in. While they can be reliable, you'll notice that you spend a lot of time fixing things and "Catching up" because all the previous owners didn't do the routine maintenance over the years.

By the way, all you really need is an engine hoist and an engine stand (if you plan on rebuilding the engine) to get everything apart. Check out Harbor Freight, they have cheap stands and hoist. I wouldn't trust them enough to put a heavy big block on them, but they are certainly adequate for a little 22R. And to pop of the cab, you and 3 willing friends is all you need. The cab is actually amazingly light, especially when they are stripped down. It is also possible to put on and take off a cab by yourself - I've done it before with a little ingenuity, some 2x6's and cinder blocks...

I'm learning this. Don't need to rebuild the motor, it has already been rebuilt by Jasper. About 5k miles since it was rebuilt.

Good to know I don't need major stuff to pull the truck apart. I think I can manage an engine hoist and stand.

Maybe this can boost you confirdence, check out how much it took to brake a rotten frame:

But driving knowing that if you hit a a pothole or get in a small accident the leaf mount can just rip off isn't fun to me, if you have access to a welder get some plates and add a bit of reinforcement just to be safe.

Thanks. Not really impressed with that guy's tires, but the frame is definitely a good design. I'm going to patch it for now, and keep looking for a suitable frame

Yeah, his tires were bald Cooper crap. But despite the tires, he went through some nasty stuff and never got stuck! Goes to show that if a Toyota can wiggle, it ain't stuck!

Yeah I know, I should have put up a warning, not for the faint hearted toyota lover ha! However the story behind it is he bought it after sitting in the woods for 10 years, started it up and beat it like that all summer, he was supposed to weld the frame back up and drive it again but don't know if that ever happened.
