This is just a reminder page for me.

Torque Crankshaft and Camshaft bolts.
Replace Rear Main Seal
Need 3 Timing Cover bolts
Need one fan bolt
Need 4 oil pan bolts
Find valve cover bolts, put them some where that I wouldnt lose them. Just got to remember where. The missing bolts I used for fixing other trucks and now I am paying for it.

Finally got my tire carrier and support brackets on. I will eventually pull the bolts and get those cleaned up. I have 4 trucks and 2 jacks. My flat bed I carry a can of Fix a Flat. Just cant find a jack and handle in the boneyard.

Got the tank in. Leaving filler hose off for it to finish drying the sealer. Got to enjoy the small steps. It all part of the big picture. Got to see where the other 2 metal lines connect to. Got the fuel filter bracket off to clean it up.

More parts done or installed. Wahoo!!

Getting Closer. Still have some parts to get before installing motor. Got 2 totes I use to store parts in empty so that is a good sign.

Amen to that, when I get down to jut a few ziplock bags, I have this inner erg to rush and get it done. Looking good. Building the engine is quick, it's the little stuff that takes forever.

dirtdobber..Thats always a good feeling, gets you to thinking of how close you are.

Tinman..You are so right about the little stuff. That rush I am feeling right now.

1986yota4x4..lol.. you are doing great. especially what you have been through. You went alot deeper into your motor. I was too cheap to do as much as you are.

Well I got the rest of the parts to get my motor all together. I am kind of irritated at myself. When I restored my 89 truck I replaced the clutch as it was half worn. It was a good clutch and for what I need it for now it would work. I got into a spring cleaning mode awhile back and threw it away. I would of replaced the clutch, but for now I could of used it to put the motor and tranny togther to get it moving under its own power.

Right now a clutch just isnt in the budget for awhile. I am thinking I could of used it to put in the truck and got it running so I am kicking my self in the butt. Oh well. I got plenty of other things to keep me busy.

I did go to Toyota and got an in tank filter on order. Should pick up Friday. I search the net and was unable to find anywhere. It is still available for around $14. I will post the part number when I get it.

That has the backend somewhat wrapped up and getting the motor finished just leaves the middle part left to do. lol

I get to get my parts cleaned up and on the motor so that is a boost in my build.

I have been working on getting the sensors cleaned up on the carb/spaghetti assembly. I have been making sure the vacuum lines are flowing one at a time so as not to get them out of order. I dont plan on rebuilding this carb at this time. If it is bad, I will seriously consider going with a Webber. One of my friends has one on his and so much lees junk on it.

If this one works, I will then go with removing the extra things on it that I can. I will do that after it I get it running. It is tempting to do it now, but I learned a lesson when doing a Chevy years ago.

Every truck I have worked on, I have always blocked off the EGR. It puts a lot of carbon everywhere in the motor and blocks everything off. Clean up can be messy. I just take a soda can and trace it around the edge with a bench grinder. Works great for me.

How I make a block off plate. Not the most high tech, but works.

Carburator, cleaned sensors and a finished blockoff plate.

Haven't checked this thread in while. You've made a lot of progress since my last visit! If the rest of the restoration goes as well as what you've done already, you'll truly have something special. You don't see many of these around anymore.

Thanks 92Toy..I checked the part numbers and they were different. I really appreciated you offering to help. That is one thing that makes this ite great. People offering to help each other here when you get in a bind.

Thanks Zelephant..I have been checking in on your thread. I am amazed at your build and know you have been busy with school. Builds like yours where you started by never working on a truck to your results that is nothing short of outstanding. Great job, keeps me motivated.

Got some good news. The wife had a half day off and seen me updating some pics and seen where I was hung up. She knows the weather is bound to change here soon and said why dont I just get a clutch on order. I got one a coming. Wahoo!!

I got a cheaper one, not one of the heavy duty ones, but I have only ever worn one clutch out. It was when I did alot of traveling as a repairman in Tulsa and other cities where there was stop and go traffic. I have only had 2 automaic transmissions in my life. I have changed quite a few when a used car needed it or when pulling the motor just for good measures.

The wife sees me playing on the computer and got curious as to my build threads. She has seen them before but never really pays any attention to them. I work odd hours and have odd days off and is one reason I am able to keep moving on my thread a little by little. Guess she found out I dont just keep the couch warm.lol..When I was single, I didnt have TV. Never used it and could still live without it. Her and the kids on the other hand, that is a different story.

I went through the 88 build with her and was able to show when this or that got done and what all was involved in getting it going. Think she was surprised. Then I did a quick run down on my 83 and got to the clutch. Thanks Yotatech. Will be Saturday or Sunday before I get to finish getting the motor done.

When I say pickens are slim around here in the bone yard. We dont have much to choose from. The motor I got these parts from was rusted on the outside so bad I wish I would of gotten a picture of it. We had to beat a 7/16th socket on with a hammer to get the bolts off of the oil pan to get the pickup tube. Luckily the oil saved the pickup tube.

The other part I need for now and will work til I get my replacement is the big horseshoe water pipe beside the alternator. Some one made it homemade. Might actually look good shined up. It is copper or brass. I got one found, but just to show those that have access to good salvages how lucky you are.

Thanks Jerry, you posted while I was doing my write up. Looks to me they would keep things like trannys the same. Would be alot less for inventory purposes. But look at the different trannys available.

I got my filter in today and got it installed. I could only find it at Toyota. The tank is officially done. For $20 dollars in white vinegar, $25 for tank sealer and $15 for my intank fuel filter, I have one as good as new. $60 is alot cheaper then what they want for a new tank. Also got the pickup cleaned so I just got to chase the lines from the tank to the carb.

Part Number is 77023-12050.

Got the concrete guy coming out Sunday to see where I want my shop floor to be and then I schedule the builders to come out for the building. I cant drive a nail through newspaper with out bending it. Looking forward to getting it done.

Will just have the a floor, walls, roof for awhile, but will be nice to get the projects into a building. I get to pay the city for a building permit, or basically for them to raise my taxes. Yeaaaa, like they have put a dime into it. Oh well. Still going to be my home away from home. I plan on putting a shower out there. I will just tap into the house lines. Keep from getting chewed on when I get done working on a project.heheh

I had 2 days off and wasnt feeling to great and didnt get a thing done. Nothing at all even around the house. I dont care for wasting a day and not getting something done. But I feel better and ready to go again. Got alot planned for the weekend. If I get it all done, it will be an accomplishment. Just will wait and see.

I'm glad I'm following this thread! You're making killer progress and the work looks good too!

I would have never known about that intake pick-up filter had I not followed this. I think I'm going to have to pick one of those up.. I've replaced the exterior filter thats mounted on the frame rail, but I had no idea there was also one in the tank..

Good stuff.. Keep it coming as usual!

Hello 1986..Thanks, I am really happy with how the tank has turned out. I have done this in the past and have not had any problems. I am so ready for my shop. Have a lot of plans for it.

Thanks Just DSM.. I try to make my threads as informative as possible. I am always looking to see what makes each part tick. When I find my old filter, I want to cut it open and see how bad it was inside. Might be surprised. Also check your pick up tube. Mine was probably only allowing 50% flow. Alot of build up.

I got my missing timing cover bolts in, oil pan and pickup tube on, and missing tranny/motor mount in. Now just need to get the time to get it in the truck.

Still dont have the manifolds or accessories on. Will wait til in the truck. I am still tinkering with the carburator. Probably just hours away from hearing it run. But this is going to be a busy week, so not sure when I will get it in. It is killing me. So close.

I have done my best to make sure this thing doesnt leak. Will have to wait and see. Seems like no matter how much you try to make sure there is always one when starting one up for the first time.

Things Needed for Celica Motor

Things needed to make a Celica motor work. That I know of so far.

Pickup Tube. Will need one more bolt that holds the pickup tube in center of block.

4x4 Oil Pan
Horse Shoe water pipe.

I dont know if the throttle linkage is compatible. Will find out eventually.

I will add any info I know of to this post and will keep editing as I go.

The pickup tube on left is what will be needed.
