Hello Jason..lol..I have gotten myself in that pickle before. It is tempting to just start ripping things apart, but you are right, not so easy to remember when you go to put it together later on.
Hello Tinman..I wanted a bigger garage and could easily fill it up, when I was looking at the different sizes, I sure was in dream land. I am going to put some shelves up high. Like the heater I have, it isnt big, but it all adds up.
How did you like the stripper? I am not looking forward to it, but dont really know another good way of getting it off. Think sanding would be a real pain.

I have been doing some work on the truck and some on the garage. Not having a work bench was been a little frustrating, so decided to make one. I am not a carpenter by any means. I have a tough time driving a nail through peanut butter let alone actual wood.
I am happy with the way things have turned out on it so far. I may have done some over kill with nails and wood screws, but want it to be able to take alot of abuse. I am building my shop with painting in mind and want to be able to clean under the bench when prepping the shop for paint. Also want to be able to have some shelf space for tools and such. Plan on putting so heavy plywood on top.
Have been checking around for shelves and they are not as readily available as you might would think.
Another thing I was working on today that was surprised to find out was that I am looking at a Tangerine,Burnt Orange color for the truck and wanted to get some rattle can paint for the inner fenders and engine bay. Wanted to take a little apart at a time and paint and reassemble and move to the next part.
Wasnt able to find any rattle can. If done right it can look great. Now I will have to basically strip it all out and shoot it with a spray gun. grr..

Yeah man don't waist your time trying to sand that. Nd you'll be surprised what you find under the paint. Aircraft stripper works real well, it is not that expensive. Autozone sells a gallon of it. Just keep it wet, brush it on in one direction. And cover yourself up real well. It burns when you get it on you. I have often thought about using cheap brake fluid. Mainly because it does not burn when it gets on you. But I would put a nice tarp down under either on. You might want to check around and see how much someone would charge to sand blast it for you.
Also when you do get it stripped down to bare metal, cleaned with soap and water, then a good wax and grease remover. Shoot it with black or grey epoxy. PPG Shop line will run $45 for a half gallon (two parts, 1 qt each). You will not be sorry. Do any body work right over top it. If it sit more than three days, and you are going to use filler, just scuff with 180 grit and then spread the filler. Once your done with the body work, shoot it with the epoxy again. Then spray your top coat. It also final block sands out real nice.

Gonna hit the yards and grab a 2nd Gen 4Runner or 3rd Gen Pick up Heater Core Switching Valve while you're in there?(they're plastic and NEVER seem to 'stick'-up like ours.) I still haven't put mine in, lol. Just couldn't be down even a day at the time,........ now time's even more scarce! lol. Meh, I'll do it, eventually. My heater takes a long time to get really warm,.... quite a few minutes, so I'm pretty sure, now that I have the gate open FO SHO, .......it's the heater core just a lil plugged up. I did a prestone flush fluid stuff thingy and reverse and forward flow reaming with pressured water through the core... but BLECHHHHH, lol. It helped, but not GREAT. Did you replace that while you had all that out?(the core?)
Sorry for the rambling... just want to help even if it's a lil thing like HEAT! lol.

Thanks Tinman.. I am starting the stripping process and it is a pain. Checked into blasting, but it is out of my price range.
Hello Chef.. I will be going thru the heating assembly when I get to the interior. I will be going thru the dash assembly eventually. I will look into every upgrade I can make while in there. Dont want to have to do it again.
Hello Mudslinger. I have been told that paint is either Burnt Orange or Tangerine.

I have been making some slow progress. Putting some time in getting the shop organized and working on some dents. Stripping is going slow and messy. The weather is getting cold here and the 1500 other things going on, just not making the progres that I would like.
I have been making myself get at least one hour a day in on the shop or truck, or getting my tools out that I havent used in 10 years cleaned and tested.
I do get the next 3 days off and looks like the weather is going to be warmer, so I really want to get something accomplished.Steadily chopping at it.
After seeing JustDSMs video and another truck in town, it is really getting me excited about getting mine going.

Yeah, maybe even upgrade the core.... If possible, it COULD NEVER hurt to have more efficient and longer lasting heat units. Notice how the newer toyotas don't sling stories so often of "omgosh, my heater stopped working", etc.? lol.
Best wishes, keep at it buddy!

Hello dirtdobber.. It is exciting to start ripping things up but you sure pay for it when reassembling. I learned the hard way.lol
Hello Chef.. I will be tearing the dash apart and dont want to have to do anything like that again. Not looking forward to it but I have done it before and not as bad really. How are things with you.

Not much to show for today. Had to spend 2 1/2 hours at the dentist. Still dealing with this dry socket. I did spend some time on the shop and then some on the truck.
Here is what the interior looked like. I am going to put some comfy buckets in it and want to paint the interior so am getting it stripped.
Pretty dirty and cheap carpet.

Only hole in floor board. Someone didnt do the best at fixing the hole.

One of the reasons I will be pulling the dash out. This one is cut up and I want to get it all cleaned up in there.

The new dash is uncut. I will take the best of both of them and hopefully have one really nice dash.

dirtdobber...Sorry to hear about the dash assembly. Its to bad you couldnt get it. I may have to do the same thing you did for a pad. Both of mine are shot. I am going to try to fill with a bondo like material and paint with interior paint. Cant be any worse then what I have got.

Wound up picking up 2 motors. Both are 22rs, dont know the condition of them but didnt cost me anythig. Might be good or maybe just really good boat ancors. Still got some hard to find parts so it is still a good thing.
Also today I was digging around and found a new head gasket in the shed. Dont remember how I got it so if one of these motors turns out good, I wont have a whole lot into it. Always like little surprises.
I got another engine stand for Christmas. So I decided to put one of the new to me motors on the stand and had to pull off the flywheel. Started to put the breaker bar on the flywheel bolt and it was going to be stubborn. Thats when I remembered that I had a impact gun and some impact sockets. Had to clean the gun and oil it up, but after not using it for 12 years when I had my last garage, it worked like champ.
May not seem like much, but after having to muscle through everything, it was really nice for once to use air tools again.

Oh yeah mines in about 6 pc. (the dash/radio bezel that is) great to here you are getting good use out of that shop already. I was extreamly jelous not only of the shop but of yours being 4x4 already.......hope I can help you out like you did me with parts and stuff.... My buddy with the crappy plasma cutter is in GA so I have not got a chance to make them block offs, the stainless I made mine out of my dad made some cb antenna brackets out of the rest of that and honestly I dont have any thing else to make them out of. I might be able to use the plates that are on the tubes just cut the tubes out and weld them up clean and paint them.

Hello dirtdobber..Havent gotten much accomplished. Did get a little time working on the roof of the cab getting some dents out. I think every Toyota truck has had a badly dented roof. Once I get the dents finished on the cab roof. The main part of the cab is done.
Still working on getting the engine compartment cleaned up. That is going slow and messy. I am determined to get it.
Come on out, I can always use the extra help.lol..I got plenty to do. Each dent and fix is just one step closer.
