Thanks guys!! I know I don't set records for the fastest swap time, or anything but I do put in a little extra work, effort, money to make things look like they either belong there, or that the work is quality. The fact you guys notice means a lot. I'm happy with it, and hopefully in some way, shape, or form it encourages others to turn some wrenches.

You sure do! You never know what kind of crazy stuff you'll find in here! There's quite a few good build threads going on in here right now! I have to put in some hours of work just to get pics to keep up with these other guys!

Project Update:

Got the transmission bolted up to the 3RZ. I was pleased to find the W56-C's forward shift setup fits quite well with a unmodified hole in the transmission tunnel. I've read elsewhere and here that it's a good fit. But I don't always have the luck others do.. So it was nice actually seeing it for mysellf. I didn't get any pictures taken, but how exciting is taking a picture of the underside of my rig? So anyways.. It's in, and bolted tight. It might need a little trimming of the opening to the passenger side, but we'll see about that once I get the crossmember bolted in. Speaking of which..

BudBuilt called. Crossmember ships today, so hopefully I'll see it by Wed/Thurs next week! I've got the tranny held in place currently with some ratchet straps to support the tail end. It's in close enough to it's final position that I can get measurements for my driveshafts. I've just got to decide what to do with the shafts. On another forum, I picked up a Marlin output flange, so I have all the driveshaft patterns avail at the rear of my transfer case which makes things nice. I think I might just get the stock shaft shortened up for the time being to get me back on the road and order up a nice CV shaft for the front and rear. We'll see..

I also got the clutch hydraulics hooked up, starter installed and wired along with the alternator. So in all honesty, I just need to put fluids in this thing and fire it up..

you might be surprised. I ordered my replacement BudBuilt on a friday, had it by tuesday..He is awesome vendor to deal with, seriously cares about his customers;bigok:

I would shorten your stock shaft for now and like you plan have the CV shafts built...having a spare shaft doesn't hurt..lots of nooks and crannies to zip tie it up and out of the way for 'just in case'

Someone who doesnt know these trucks will think it is factory. They would be very disappointed in riding in mine after feeling the performance of yours. Its looking good.

Glad to see the tranny wasnt an issue for you. It always nice to get an easy fix every once in a while.

Nice!!! Hope for better luck in the few days of running than I have had. My little re runs great and is tight, just some bugs to work out. AFM, stripped exhaust stud, etc. just some bugs to work out.

It put a smile on my face. Could only imagine how you felt. Great job. Bet you are trying to get it ready for your first drive.

Congrats again.

Sorry for being late to the show, this is a very interesting build, it makes me miss more my 83 short bed.

I have a question for you, did that '89 W56 bolted right up to the 3RZ?

I'm asking this because I have a 95 Taco, and my W56 tranny's reverse gear is shot and makes a loud ticking sound when in motion, and wanted to see if an earlier W56 will fit, or at least the internal can be changed.

Keep up the good work, you have an awesome truck...

HAHA! That's just the exhaust manifold, I didn't even have the downpipe bolted on!

However, I wouldn't be able to tolerate that for hours upon end..

I hope you had some good luck come your way in the last few days.. I've got a small oil leak at the oil pump and a fuel line I have to re-do.. So believe me I've still got some work to do..

I'll get right back to you on this one.. My gut feeling is that the W56 inner parts are not directly compatible, but I'm not exactly qualified to answer that.. The W56-C I used (out of a 1991) bolted directly to the 3RZ with the 3RZ (W59) bellhousing swapped.

Thanks for the props!

Well now that you got the engine sorted out, how soon before you install your 63's? If you're gonna sell those OME springs I'd be pretty interested in supporting another of your projects by buying them off of you.

Fantastic progress so far, I know you'll keep it up and have an amazing rig soon.

Tried modifying the tach.. No luck with this setup. I'll be researching other methods..

Here's some of the roughly finalized wiring:

Still need to fab up some brackets to mount the ECU, but it's driveable and secure here for the time being:

Quicky throttle cable bracket. The 3RZ one was missing when I got the motor, So I bought a 22RE throttle cable from Davez Offroad, and made this little thing:

Shot of the bay:

And she cruises pretty good on the Interstate now:
