That's a great photo with a dusting of snow! Nice work on the charging system. Mine is bone stock, and when I start having problems, I'll definitely be knockin' at your door.

I refuse to drive my old truck around here for the next few months. Too much salt on the road. It doesn't stop people from driving too fast though. The other day, a new looking Golf was in the fast lane next to me going WAY too fast down a hill to a green light, with cell phone pressed to ear. It turned red, she pressed the brake, and began drifting off the high spot in the middle of the road, into my lane. Fortunately, I was in control, backed off, and she bounced off the curb, into the middle of the intersection. It's like this on every outing...reckless drivers! Cars against trees, in people's front yard, flares and red lights flashing at intersections. Gee.

They need 4WD !

Lol @ pingpong83. Sounds like you live in at great town. I'm driving mine now since they only put stuff on the roads once and it's has rained several times since then and I washed the underneath of my truck yesterday to get any salt off.

In other news, my muffler that fell off several months ago while driving and got pinned under my axle (has a huge dent in it) is now making an awful racket so I'm gonna look into an OEM muffler. I read about the flowmaster 40's, Thrust, and Cherry Bomb mufflers and to me they all have a hint of rice burner tuner sound which I cannot stand. If the dealer can't get a muffler I will get one from Autozone and I also found out they sell a pre-bent piece of exhaust for the muffler on back for like $30. Mine needs replaced really bad.

Here is the bug shield I got. Had a friend make the Toyota lettering and I laid it on.

Here are some shots of it installed:

Today I made me a new shifter knob. Since I have the bug shield now I took of the Mack bulldog off the front but I wanted to keep it on the truck so...

Got some nuts the same thread size as the shifter knob and they were a perfect fit inside of the dog so I welded them in there. Bolt is just to hold them together while they were welded.

Nice Truck, good job on the alternator upgrade, I think I'm going to do that on both my yota's in the future! I like how your gear shift knob turned out...it looks like it might be a little uncomfortable for the bulldog tho...LOL!

Random picture time. A lot of people say their dash lights are not bright but mine are pretty bright.

So I got the same lift kit for my 81 yota and the shackles are at like 45 degrees the wrong way. Does this mean I need to re locate like you did? Or will they stretch out?

Hi there, just read thru your whole build so far. The truck is looking real good. Got lucky with it not being all rotted out frame wise. Like all the cool mods u have done with it,thanks for the inspiration. I also have an '83 4x4 Toy P/U that i hope to start working on someday. After i get my old 4runner's body sealed up and daily driving it. U had said i could find an fsm for an '83 to download. Where can i find that ? Also how u liking that wire welder u got ? Have u tried out the old Lincoln tombstone welder that u got ? Had heard those r some good welders. Anyways thanks for the help.

The FSM download is on the Pre 84 trucks page. The non build up page. The wire welder is ok. Im not to good with it yet. About to test it again on my floor pans soon. The ole tombstone welder is what was used to relocate my leaf spring hangers. Works good.

Ok , will have to find the download. Thinking ahead to when and if I can work on my p/u. I'm no welder either, don't have 220 for 1 thing and the money right now to get a good welder. Going to borrow a cheapie wire welder from a friend to try and take care of some stuff. I've heard its all practice practice.
