45 psi??

I got my new Revo's put on a few days ago and noticed while doing some light offroading yesterday that the truck bounced around like CRAZY. So I figured they inflated the tires a little too high, and when I went to check, my front tires were at 45 psi.....is that even safe? I deflated them to 26 in the front, and 29 in the rear, which is what the manual suggests. Freakin shops.

On long trips I inflate to 40-42 PSI to save some fuel. (Max on my stock Dunlops reads 51 PSI) I have had no problems. But that IS at HIGH speeds only.
Speaking of high speeds and tires, what is the highest speed rating I can get in the size of 265/70R16 or a little wider? I browsed the net and didn't find much. Hopefully someone can help me a little more on this.

I couldn't imagine driving with 45 psi. I would definitey have a headache after that around here, hehe.

This is where I'm at on all fours:

Yes, 45psi is safe. I autoX at that and even higher pressures. However, it won't provide a good ride, and over time will wear the tread in the middle a lot more than on the sides. It prevents sidewall flex which is why it's good for when making sharp cornvers for maximum braking. The shop that put them on i'm sure didn't even check the air pressure, just put the hose on there until it looked full.

Did you check the pressure when the tires were cold? If they were warm, the PSI will read higher.

Just remember the psi ratings in the manual are suggested for the stock tires.
Check the Bridgestone site, they have a very good section on tire maintenance and specific psi ratings for the different types of tires they sell. I also recommend using their psi recommendations as a starting point and adjust according to the way your vehicle rides. My stock Bridgestone H/Ts work well at 37 psi, but when I put the REVOs on, it handled much better when I put them at 35. And as someone above said, make all reading and adjustments when tires are cold.

Try the Discount Tire Direct and Tire Rack web sites. You can put in your tire seze and it will show you the available tires. Then check each for their speed rating. How fast a speed rating do think you need? <grin> I know you can get H & V rated tires in that size, but dunno about any higher.

If you're really serious, email Roger Laughlin at Tire Rack roger@tirerack.com and he will find you what you need. Great guy. How cool is that?

Cheers!

Thanks. I'll try that. As far as speed rating, I am not really sure. The speed unlimiter mod will dictate the type of tires.
