Live4soccer7's 84runner 1UZ Swap
#121
Does anyone know if the sending unit and the fuel pump unit from a pickup truck 84-88 will bolt in to the 4runner gas tanks? Not just the piece fitting, but the entire unit that bolts to the tank.
As shown here: http://www.carparts.com/details/Toyo...NjYiaVfH_D_BwE
If so, I've got a 4runner tank locally that I can pick up, but I will need to head to the junk yard and get the pump and fuel sending units that fit in to it from a pickup.

I was able to make some progress on the bell housing. This is the KS bell housing from the ebay guy from Thailand.
I trimmed 30mm off the mount. I didn't want to go more as then the slave cylinder would get in the way of the bolt that is right next to it. It seems to be near perfect.

For future people reading this. I simply used an angle grinder to cut if off after measuring 30mm. Then use a 17/64" bit and an M8x1.25 tap. Simple enough and it turned out well.

Here are some more pics:
pilot bearing included in the kit from KS racing (whatever his ebay ID is):

Apparently the R150F (3.0 Version) is just a tad to short (input shaft), so they include this adapter to put on it. Why they wouldn't just make the bellhousing a little shorter blows my mind. Maybe I'm overlooking something though.

What the hell is this spacer for? Anyone?

I told you all that I would have some questions during the swap and it seems that I have left them all for the end. I have heard of a few people putting a spacer between pivot ball for the fork and the housing to 'push' the ball out a few more MM. Anyone that has the KS housing care to chime in? or anyone that has knowledge of this.

Only thing I can figure is that it was cheaper to use the pilot bearing they did rather then have one made. The hole for the nipple on the output shaft was too small so they used an adaptor.

What the hell is this spacer for? Anyone? I don't remember seeing that in my kit.

Some have used the 3.0 throw out bearing and 4 or 5 washers stacked behind the pivot. I used the 3.4 throw out which has a longer neck. I am not using any spacers behind the pivot and it feels good. Hind sight I think I could have run 1 washer for spacing and would have been great.

85toyman, did you use a spacer behind the pivot ball with your auto? I think you mentioned that you used the 3.4 throwout bearing instead of the 3.0. I should be able to mate the engine tranny in about 1 week (waiting on some parts), so I'm really trying to tie up these loose ends.

A good thread to show the difference between the 3.0 and 3.4 throwout bearing:

Anyone know if this bearing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370419367387?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Is the same exact one as this one: http://www.marlincrawler.com/clutch/...g-1996-04-6cyl
Marlin doesn't give a part # on theirs and I can't find any other correlating part numbers for the nachi brand release/throwout bearing for the 3.4L R150F tranny.
Edit: It seems they are the same:
Part Numbers found here: http://www.bearingscanada.com/servle...i,-deep/Detail
3.4 Toyota part number here: http://www.toyotapartszone.com/oem/t...=model_catalog
Which can be cross-referenced with the auction part number.
Should be here next week so I can go ahead and get it all installed. Saved about $30, with that lucky find.

here are some shots of what I finished up over the last day or so while I've been waiting for parts.
I pulled the plugs and they looked pretty decent. They pretty much all look the exact same. Some are turned a little different in the photo and you are seeing the slightly darker side. I think since the EGR system wasn't functioning completely correct there may have been a little more a little carbon build up, but nothing serious IMO. If anything, it was running a tad rich.

A few shots of the cleaned up engine now. It is ready to go with the exception of adding the EGR tube on that rosslandtoy provided and extending a couple wires due to the sensor locations changing on the oil pan because of the switch from the LS400 version to the rear sump SC400 version.
Anyone that needs an SC400 oil dipstick, just go on sewell lexus and buy one if you can't find one at a yard. They are $35 brand new (tube and stick).

Just a shot of the SC400 oil filter, dip stick, rear sump (really more like mid). The oil pans are a PIA, but what pans aren't I guess. Again, reminder if you need to get an SC400 oil pan setup. Get both pans, oil pickup, baffle, and ALL associated bolts. You'll kick yourself if you do not.

Just another glory shot. haha.

So finding a speed sensor has been on the list for quite some time. I have been looking for a 92-95 22re 4WD pickup/4runner speed sensor for quite some time at the junk yard, but have not had any success. You can get them on ebay, but they are a bit spendy there and I try and be as resourceful as possible on things like this so the money can go elsewhere in the swap. Anyways, here is a thread I have over at lextreme about it: http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showt...d=1#post138474
A guy over there has done quite a few swaps and he is suggesting this sensor: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/330484087...84.m1423.l2649
I'm not sure if it is the same as the one that marlin or TG offer. I am using the LS/SC400 cluster. Given that I'm not quite sure that the 92-95 sensor would even work with the LS/SC400 cluster, I may simply get this item if I can get a confirmation in the lextreme thread and be done with that aspect of it.
This is the one from marlin: http://www.marlincrawler.com/transfe...eed-sensor-mci

What are you guys torquing the flywheel bolts to for the manual setup (R150F)? Are you using a tad bit of loctite or no?
I hope to pretty much get this thing back on the hoist to do this part and get the tranny bolted up asap. Then I can move it and start putting it in the truck.

So one of two things happened. I either ordered the wrong PP/clutch disc or they sent the wrong one.
Shouldn't this pp/clutch work: 2.0L Turbo Awd 3Sgte 4Cyl - Endurance - OFE 90-93
http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/part.../3935/-/Toyota
With this flywheel:
http://www.1uzfeswapkit.com/Flywheel...-0000-0008.htm
The dowels do not line up between the PP and the flywheel. It is close, but not going to happen. This definitely puts a damper on the project. A setback to say the least.

While I'm waiting on the clutch resolution, I think I may touch on cooling a bit. I have read and talked to a couple people regarding their cooling solutions.
I am curious if anyone has used the 22RET radiator? Any thoughts on this since it would be a very easy/quick install. I thought it would be at least worth touching on the subject.

You can always start with a smaller radiator and see how it does. The V6 radiator out of the 88-89 v6 4runner should fit too I think (same body). It was a pretty decent sized radiator.
I'd also suggest puller fans and a shroud if you can manage it.

Sorry!
It took me a while as I don't get email telling me I had a reply. Here's the Superlift one.

Here is the mechanical to electric speedo vss sensor that I'm using:
Ebay ID: chandlermotorsportsinc
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330484087437...84.m1439.l2649
I suppose the question now is, does anyone have any idea of what where I can get an electrical plug for the other half of this thing? What vehicle/model/etc...?
