1uz swap in the works.

well 350miles on the swap now, still need to weld in the bungs for my o2 sensors, and get my iac hose routed. but other than that its been running pretty flawless..
i can really tell the exhaust is choking the engine down, so time to build a 2 1/2-3/4 exhaust and let this thing breath!

I am still putting small stuff together and collecting parts. At this point I plan on keeping the 5 speed. I have thought about the automatic tranny, but I like to shift and have absolute control over shifting. I think it will also be easier than putting the auto in there.
Your thoughts about it?
Don
Glad to hear it is running good. Let me know what you find out on pulling the trailer thing. I am nervous about it as I pull the travel trailer and the flat bed trailer I haul now. I pull 4runners home to part out as a hobbie and those things weigh alot. I want an engine that is reliable and don't want to break down (i.e over heat).

well if you go auto, just bolt a tundra auto trany behind it, you will need to get an adapter from advanced addapters to mat it to a gear case, then you won't have to warry about towing, i am sure the r series trans would be just as capable though..
if you bought a bellhousing(not addapter) from down under i don't think you would have any issues.. the only thing i am warried about is the bell on mine, i had to take alot of material out in a few places.. we'll see how it does.

What would one do about the colum shift on the tundra transmission. I would like to retain the shifting area to the floor. Could one use the automatic trannys shifter from a 2gen 4runner and use it with modified linkages to the tundra tranny? I was wondering about how modifining the the bell from right hand to left hand drive would do with all the modifications that one would have to do to get the slave and such in the right place. I am really interested in how well yours works out. If push came to shove I guess I could just to the 3.4 with a TRD Super Charger. Probebly have about the same amount into it as the 1uz swap.
Thanks for be open about your ride. It has been very valuable too those who are thinking about this swap. Keep us posted on how well and reliable this swap has been.
Thanks again,
Don

Use the A340e auto that came with the Lexus. Thats what I did. Other than the 4wd output its the same as the A340F model that comes in 1996 and up Tacos and 4Runners. Y
You would have way more invested in a supercharged 3.4 swap due to the engine and supercharger cost. My whole swap cost me less than $1500 to complete.

i think they all use a variation of the a340.. its pretty much the rear half of the tranz that varies from model to model..
the lexus auto will have bigger gears and i am assuning longer gears as well?
with the slave location, if you use an auto bell with an addapter plate you can prety much put the slave wherever you want. i put mine close to the stock location but i should have put it on the driver side to make more room for exhaust clearance. i like the 5spd for a few reasons...
1: less to go wrong on the trail...
2: less wires and electrical to deal with
3: no need for a trans cooler and TV crap, cooler lines getting in the way.
4: less things to start leaking, i have 2 main seals to wary about with a 5spd... auto you have the pan the shift seals, cooler lines and so on and so forth..
these were the main reasons i whent 5spd, plus i like to put around in 5 gear at 1k rpms... i know weird..

Thanks for everybodys opinions. Birdduck do you have any pictures you can either post or pm with the bell housing you have. Pictures of it as you modified it and then in your truck.
Thanks,
Don

so i think i am going with 35's... why? well i don't want to drop 800 on new tires for one, and i can get a used set of tires and wheels 35x12.50r15's for like 3-400.. so i am pretty sure i can clear 33's but 35's? what am i going to need? if i rub a little i really don't care.

well i have decided that my exhaust is crap... really choking down the motor, so what am i going to do well glad you asked... i will be going with a 2.5 or bigger system soon wee...

had a little fun on the new tires..

just installed my manual hubs today after work, found i had a seized piston in one of my calipers... fixed that tightened up my pitman arm, reset wheel bearings.. but for the most part everything is doing good, i may be building some new headers down the road but other than that its been rolling great..
