Why are people drilling out dipstick guides?

Why are people drilling out dipstick guides?

Perhaps this is a silly question....

I noticed that a few people mention drilling out their dipstick hole/plug. When I did my swap, I simply drove out the old part and replaced it with the already drilled one from Toyota. It was only $5!

Toyota part number 90405-10033

Because the obsolete dipstick hole only remained on the block for a few years or so on the 3.4 block. After that, the casting was modified and the hole is no longer there and needs to be drilled.

Ahhh...

So it is to drill the casting to accept the "union".

Now I get it!

Thanks,

I believe from 2001 and later you have to. I have an 01 Taco engine and I had to.

I was told it was when Toyota quit making the T100 trucks. At that point they had no reason to drill and plug the blocks anymore since they were not making any production vehicles that needed it.
