I have the engine that is said to be a 96(I will have to hound the guy to make 100% sure) and I was just going to try and find a harness with the ecm so I can just install it on my engine and throw it in. I was wondering what years ecm and harness will work with my 96 engine? I am going to put it in a 94 4x4 truck but I dont know how long it will be 4x4 and it has a manual so does it matter if I get a 2wd or 4x4 ecm? I dont care if my dash lights work when its in 4wd...

Also I might have a source on a 97 ecm, harness, and maf(I need a maf too) but it is for an auto. Will this work with my manual trans? I dont mind it throwing a code for the trans just as long as the engine runs fine.

And download everything you can about your motor/ecu whatever. if you got the time download everything you can click on... Then you can compair ecus/ wiring diagrams/ connectors etc.....

Its $10 a day that you use it.... VERY helpfull..

 

Yes a 97 auto harness will work on your 96 engine and manual trans.

 

Is it just 96 and 97 or can I use an even newer one like a 98 or 99?

 

You can use newer as long as your ecu and harness match. Later modles won't have egr wich is a plus.

 

If your 3.4 came out of a 4Runner it won't have EGR for any year.
