locating gauges post-swap

I'm about to not spend any more time debugging oil/water gauges on the 93 truck. It really a silly easy circuit but none-the-less mine won't work.

As I look for places to mount after-market gauges, I'm wondering if anyone has tried a particular A-pillar dual pod that fit reasonably well. AutoMeter does not list one for the Toy. Any part numbers? Or, any other ideas?

Thanks,

All of my gauges work, and I also did the SR5/DLX combination meter swap and fuel gauge w/low indicator swap. Double check your wiring, and the FSM has test procedures for most of the gauges on our trucks/runners. Check your oil pressure with a mechanical test gauge to verify you actually have sufficient pressure.

I know the wiring is simple, I just can't figure out why my two gauges won't work. I drove the donor so I know there's oil pressure.

To last post, do you use those Supra pods in a truck?

Thanks,

Oh, I studied your link some more. I assume you used the Supra pod in the Supra. Was not aware of this brand though. I wonder how the truck pod fits?

Also just noticed they make a 2-pod upto '89, then for 90-95, there's only a 3-pod. Dang it.

Update and questions. I have been drivng the truck for 3 weeks and have really been impressed with power, quiet, and smoothness. I really like this engine. I've wired the 3.4 a/c amplifier and will charge that this week.

I completed the ADD delete and wired the 4WD light up. Worked some on trying to get oil pressure and wter temp gauges to work. I shorted oil pressure to ground at snsor and gauge deflected to full. I'm not sure where water temp sensor is so I shorted that wire to ground where it passes through firewall. Gauge also deflected.

Does the 3.0 water temp sender work in 3.4?
Where is it?

Big excitement for the week. Once upon startup, the 3.0 fan let go and shred into pieces. Thankfully it didn't touch the rad. I used all 3.0 fan, shroud, and radiator. Now I'm having a tough time finding a 3.0 fan.

Does anyone know if diameter of 3.4 and 3.0 fans is the same? I don't have either to measure.

Thanks

I've got a brand new, never used OEM 3.0 fan (original style w/ring) for sale cheap.

There are two water temp sensors (ECT sender gauge, ECT sensor) on the 3.4, both mounted on the intake manifold. One is next to the coolant outlet and the other sensor at the rear of the manifold. Don't remember which one is which.

I got rid of the mechanical fan and installed an electric. Picked up more MPG and a little more power in the process.

the coolant temp sender for the guage is the single wire one at the back of the manifold.

Are people running the 3.4 water temp sender after conversion or can/must the 3.0 water temp sender be used?

For the oil sender, it's obvious that it must be changed because the 3.0 has a gauge where the 3.4 donor had a light. If I ground the oil sender wire right at the sender, I get full deflection on the oil pressure gauge. I'm hopeful that a new sender fixes that.

For the water, it is a little more confused for me. Both vehicles have temp gauge. but I don't know their compatibility. I haven't actually found the water temp sender on the 3.4. I'm assuming it was already wired via the engine harness. TIS shows a one-wire connection (which would indicate a sender and not a switch) for both the 3.0 and 3.4 senders. I am able to easily see the three senders on the back of the removed 3.0, but all are two-wire connectors!

Is TIS wrong? (doubtful)
Can/must I use 3.0 sender?
Where is it?

Thanks much.

Skunkwhat,

Does the 3.4 fan fit inside the 3.0 shroud? Can I use the 3.4 fan on the 3.0 clutch or must all be changed together.

Cadman, I need to contact you.

Thanks
