^ Bad link

Factory sweep gauge? Where on the gauge is it sitting?

I think the 22R came with a 180 thermostat. You didn't by chance install a 190 degree thermostat did you?
The factory gauge reads temp from a sending unit and if a 190 thermostat was installed the reading on the gauge will show the temp hotter than normal.

Regardless of the thermostat, if it works off of a sending unit and it's old you should probably replace it. Factory gauges aren't the most accurate things in the world. I would replace it with a sending unit from the Toyota parts counter to try and keep it as accurate as possible. Shouldn't cost much.

Along with what the All Father has said!!

The resistance decreases with a rise in temperature @ 146 ohms at 140 degrees F

At @ 239 Degrees F resistance is 24 Ohms

The sending unit terminal to ground for checking the resistance.

As the sending unit grounds to the block non conductive sealer is not good

By chance did you remember to get all the air out ??

Don`t take chances by guessing the temperature on cooking your new engine

This may be the link intended: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b.../6combinat.pdf

The ECT sender page (http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...40engineco.pdf ) suggests a rather different resistance/temperature curve than reported by Wyoming9, but this manual is for a '93. Wyoming9 probably has a more appropriate reference.

Were dealing with the temperature gauge sending unit. my figures came out of the EWD for that year.

Since it is summer time it does not take long to come up to temperature .

This is where a Infra red heat gun comes in so handy just see what temperature the radiator is reading.

It could be a poor connection corroded etc the more resistance in the circuit the lower it will read on the gauge.

Sending unit no longer working like it should.

simple to check with a multimeter with the figures above .

a lead off the negative battery terminal makes a good ground.

just don`t burn yourself
