Gold star Those instructions just show how to use the 3.0 canister, you'll still need the VSVs and sensor off the 3.4 canister.

Alright, so I am doing a 3.4 swap myself in a 93 manual standard cab. I havent got the engine yet and i've been reading up for a couple months. I think i found a donor 1998 TOYOTA TACOMA XTRA CAB, comes with all the trimmings(ecu, coil packs, egr etc..). I was thinking of doing a dual exhaust setup. Any pointers, advantages/disadvantages?

I'm not a big fan of dual exhaust on a 4x4, mainly for ground clearance reasons, but check out "jasond" swap thread, he did a dual exhaust. Here's the link: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160...z-swap-126413/

I think the 3.4 needs a bit of backpressure to run properly. Dual exhausts might actually hurt the performance of the engine.

I stand corrected.

Just make sure you use a crossover pipe to allow the exhaust banks to scavange from each other.

Nice link JD! BTW are you running a cat on either side of your duals? Also, did you ever put on the blower?

This is one of those threads that you stumble upon at work and then don't come out of your office from 10am-4pm. AKA life changing! : ) congrats on one hell of a build up, not just the rig but even the thread itself. Really appreciate all the time and energy it took for you to get all of this information presented this way

RE: Exhaust I ran duals down to a cross over under the bell housing then into the original exhaust. No cats. Sounds throaty but not to excessive. It does have to meet with spousal standards Just has the original rear muffler on it. Long trips might get a bit annoying so thinking about putting in a second generic muffler. Maybe.

That was really the main reason I put a cheap cat on, less noise. As much as I'd like to say it was because I'm all green and everything. I mainly just didn't want a loud ass truck. Of course staying somewhat legal is nice too, don't like red flashing lights in the rear view. And even though we don't have smog checks here now, we are only a few more bad ozone days a year from it becoming a requirement. Being down wind from Dallas hurts us here as their crap blows over here.

Yeah we get bad air from Chicago. Funny thing a few years ago. They wanted to smog check all cars here, force factories to put filters on their chimneys etc etc because our air was off the charts with pollution. The hilarity? We are a tourist town of 800 people in winter and 20,000 in summer. There is ONE factory in town!!

Mtgoat- I'm going to run the 3.4 auto trans backed by a 4cyl gear driven T/case. What Speed sensor did you use? What goes on the threaded opening on the T/case right next to the shifter?

I used the speed sensor from my old tranny/t-case. See post 105 here: https://www.yotatech.com/961837-post105.html

?#2 sounds like you're talking about the 4WD sensor for the dash light.

If you had a 3.0 use the same 3.0 speed sensor because it matches the speedometer in the dash.

I'm using the 22re 4wd sensor though, ORS had a wiring harness for it with their kit.

Hey sweet rig bra!!! Ive followed your build from the begining but have never posted and Ive got a question since it seems like your the most knowledgeable on the 3.4 swap subject, ive got a 95 pickup that i did a sas with e-lockers and 4.88s F/R and a 3.4 swap on and it runs sweet, i even had a supercharger on it for a while but decided against spending any more money in the speed realm of things, considering i live in california... But my question is how you got your AC idle up to work on your motor, my AC works when moving down the freeway or if i have my RPMS up but it kicks off at idle, my engine is out of an 01' tacoma and im not sure if they use a VSV or if they run it through the IAC to idle up....... Ive been searching through wiring diagrams through TTORRA and i just cant seem to figure it out. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, ecspecially with summer right around the corner!!!!
