I got this PM and wanted to respond to it here so others that might have the same questions could be helped as well. I'd rather not answer questions by PM for that same reason plus PM messages have a limited life span due to storage limits. Also someone else can maybe help more than I can.

I have a 93 4runner 5-speed with a 2000 5vz with a TRD supercharger URD fuel/timing upgrade with the 318 injectors. I am running the stock pulley I also have a URD 2.1 pulley that i really want to install.

1) I noticed you were using the new style dampener/tensioner (http://trdparts4u.com/scripts/prodVi...dproduct=-8180) with the 2.1 pulley and was wondering if you did any other mods so that the alternator clears the steering shaft. I have the old style tensioner and had to space out the steering box with two washers on each bolt with the stock supercharger pulley and it barely clears. They don't make a slightly shorter belt and I really want to put on the 2.1 pulley which will give more slack and want to know how much clearance you have with that tensioner and which belt your running.

2) I bought this used with the stock pulley on the supercharger and was curious if there was any sort of washer/spacer/shim behind the pulley, it looks like it lines up fine but the back side is awfully close the housing and rubs slightly with the URD pulley.

3) Noticed you were also at a high elevation and had questions on tuning. I understand you are running some sort of meth injection, I don't really wanna use this being this is a daily driver but, more than the fuel questions, how are you mapping the timing? Ive heard we need to retard with the supercharger ,but about how much? I live in new mexico at about 5800 feet and travel between 5000- 7500 daily.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks much
As far as #1, I removed the plastic cover from the steering shaft that covers the rag joint and I cut off the end of the alternator adjustment bracket but It looked like I didn't need to cut the bracket as it turned out. I'm using the stock TRD belt for the SC. There is about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch clearance between the Alt and the steering shaft just sitting. That probably changes under torque load on the driveline.

#2 No spacer that I remember, if it rubs I'd let URD know about that.

#3 I live in Oklahoma 1300 feet, but take trips to the Colo high country. I retarded as much as 6* in parts of the timing map IIRC, any more than that and I got flashing CELs for misfires. But tuning is going to be different on every truck, even ones setup exactly the same might need different tunes. I was told by URD NOT to run the 2.1" pulley without water/meth injection to cool the intake temps. So you've been warned. The timing retarding was mostly below 3000 rpms, above 3000rpms the ECU uses the knock sensor for constant feedback and adjusts the timing itself. I don't think your map can have much effect above about 3000 rpms.

Good luck

BTW just to update Blackie to doing great! Love the swap and got new shoes

Thanks for the reply just wanted to see if the alternator to steering shaft clearance would help with the tensioner your running before buying it, especially being that expensive! Also with the water meth do you go through a lot of that meth running? would it be worth it running what i am or would you go back to a 2.2 pulley?

I use my windshield washer reservoir for water/meth injection and sometimes need to fill it up every tank of gas, especially in the mountains going fast. You do not want to run it dry, it ruins the pump.

I'd say go for the 2.1 and injection, you will love it at high elevations.

Nice I have a buddy using it on his turbo setup in his car trying to convince me too, we saw a huge improvement on temps and especially power. What mixture you running? Has it proven reliable, how many miles on it? Sounds like this is the way to go

50/50 distilled water/meth.

I had to replace the plastic tubing from the pump to the nozzle after 6years it started splitting and causing water/meth to spray all over the engine bay twice. Just did that last Fall. I put the replacement tubing inside a piece of air hose to help protect it.

I probably only have about 15,000 miles on it since the swap.

See this thread for more on water/meth injection: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/t...-150-a-222254/

Nice rig! that sounds pretty reliable to me even though you've only put 15,000 miles, I've only had mine running for less than a month and already have 2,000 miles on it! really like you rock slider and flares, where did you get them? Did you notice a decrease in gas mileage with the 2.1?

Thanks, Trail gear sliders, Bushwacker flares, I've only run the 2.1" pulley so I have nothing to compare to.

Hi Brian, the cooling system seems fine for most everything I need to do. There are a few times I've let off the throttle some to not push it...for example the long climb going from Denver up to the Loveland pass tunnel, this one climb is about 6000 vertical feet all in one shot, (about 5000' to 11,000'). I CAN pull 75-80 mph or faster all the way up it , but I look down at the coolant temp and back off a little bit lol, just to not push it.

I'm still running Evans waterless coolant.

Well I'm sorry to say it looks like Webshots which hosts most of the pics on this thread is going to stop hosting at the end of this month. I've copied and pasted this whole thread onto a word document for my own use as it often helps to look back at what I did to refresh the memory banks. The word document came out to 820 pages.

Maybe Yotatech can save the pics somehow on their servers. Some of the newer pics are hoisted by Photobucket and they should continue to host until someone buys them out too.

I've tried to maintain the pics as long as possible because I know how frustrating it is to do a search and have all the pics missing.

I too worry about that day. I have some pics on Picasa Web Albums and some on Photobucket. I know one day I'll accidentally delete some. I guess we should all have our own servers LOL

Pictures PDF File

Well I couldn't stand to think of this thread without the excellently documented pictures to go along with it. I downloaded all of the inline images and compiled them into a PDF file. In the future a user should only have to download the PDF to see the missing images. You can also search by post number right in the PDF to jump right to something. Should help keep this awesome thread alive.

Goat: maybe edit post one with a link to this post, or just move the link to the first post for the PDF download with an explaination.

Here is the PDF

Cheers and thanks again for all of the great info in here.
