Thanks but the clutch still doesn't work. I think either I got the wrong flywheel with the motor or ORS sold me the wrong clutch. I'm starting to get really pissed.

First off, Congratulations!!!

Strange about the clutch, I have a spar flywheel and a good used clutch from the other 3.4L that you could try if needed. Can you see if you’re getting movement on the slave?

A.

Thanks. I've ruled out the slave. It is working properly. I just dropped the tranny again and pulled the clutch disc and pressure plate.

If I could come down and compare them to what you have that would be really helpful. I'm free anytime. I can't remember but was that flywheel attached to the motor when I picked it from you. Any chance the PO got them mixed up somehow?

If it helps, here is a pic of the 3.4 just before you got it

I remember when I did mine I think I put the disk in backwards the first time but it was obvious- I think you have checked that... I should have the original disk my motor came with in the shop - let me know if that will help and I will go scrounge it up....

I am sure you will figure it out.

Good luck.

Maybe this will help. You are using the 3.0 throwout bearing and the 3.4 pilot bearing, correct?

Well I just zipped down to Aferg's and grabbed a stock clutch and pressure plate that he had from another motor. The clutch discs are not even close to the same.

I have a suspicion ORS sent me a 3RZ clutch disc.

I am about to pull a late nighter and toss in the clutch disc Andrew gave me. I'll fire it up in the am and see if that solved the problem.

Thanks for the replies guys and thanks Andrew for the 11th hour save. I really don't have the time or energy to drop this tranny a fourth time. Hope this works.

Yup.

I just had another look and the pressure plates are not the same either. ORS definitely sent me the wrong clutch.

So it's 1am, I just got the clutch in and the tranny, wiring, driveshafts etc, etc bolted back up. It's too late to run it with the open headers to see if it'll go in gear so I'll try it tomorrow. At least I can get my rented tranny jack back in the morning.

I jumped in and pressed the clutch and it has twice as much pressure now. I'm pretty confident the problem has been solved. We'll see tomorrow.

Good to hear it was worth the trip out! I'm guessing it took longer to pick up the parts than install them.

Andrew.

It was definitely worth the trip Andrew. Thanks again. I will come back down there in a day or two and drop off the flywheel.

Cut a hole in the hood today. Didn't take much.

After admiring our work over a couple of beers, my neighbour and I decided we had better make up a hood scoop for it.

I'm thinking I might start mass producing these if I get enough interest.

Dude, I have not laughed so hard at a pic on here in a long time. That's freakin' funny.

I'm thinking the bottle of adult beverage in the pic had something to do with your design and manufacturing of said scoop.

The beer was an essential part of the R & D process.

Haven't done much in the last few days. Got a quote for a fully mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust from the crossover back. Flex joint, 2 O2 bungs, magnaflow cat and a Dynomax muffler. I thought the price was fair but they are about 20 miles away so I'll have to get it towed there.

They are the only ones in town that mandrel bend so I think I'll go with them.

I did have time to put on the new under hood engine decals. A bit over the top I know but what the hell. They were dirt cheap and it gives it a bit more of that factory feel.

I took my brother in laws 98 4runner for a ride today and hit he highway. The 3.4 is soooo much better than the old 3.slow. I can't wait to try mine out on the highway.

That would be great What was the quote? The guy at my exhaust place wanted about a grand more for mandrel bends.

They want $663.00 USD to do the whole thing with mandrel bending and they supply everything but the O2 sensors. I thought that was pretty good.

Yeah that is a very good price. Do they have access to Toyota O2 sensor bungs? I had to take in my own, they couldn't get them.
