Truck starts then stalls

So I put in a reman motor and it ran fine. The timing was off a little but I drove it about 20 miles and then parked it for 2 weeks. Tried starting it today and it started and then stalled. Over and over. Tried to adjust timing but that didn't help. I don't think it is the timing. I tried to check the codes by jumping the te1 and e1 slots in the gray connector but the light just flashes continually. Am I doing something wrong here. I do have a amisol filter that I just installed and I am wondering if the oil got on the afm and cause it to not work when it cooled.

Any help would be appreciated,
Jason

Ok I think there is a hole in my cat. Could this maybe cause the problem?

#1 make sure fuel pump is operating, fuse , airflow meter etc
#2 holes or rips in the mass air flow sensor boot.
#3 check for spark

How do i do all that. it stars every time so the fuel pump must work and there must be spark right. it just stalls every time also.

It's the AFM. I held it completly open and had my roomate start it and she stayed running.. If there are no leaks is it ok to just bolt that sucker open? Does it do anything other than sense airflow and shut the fuel off or does it control fuel mixture or something? Thanks

Ok back up. If the timming was off did you fix it? How far off was it? Are you sure it is set correctly, pointing at #1 when TDC? What year is it, and what motor? (put that stuff in your sig it make it easier). The maf/afm/vfm (depends on motor) does control mixture so I wouldn't just "bolt it open". Know anyone with a similar motor that you could swap it out and see if it really is the cause?

Yeah timing is fine. It just only runs when the valve is held open. Doesn't even have to be fully open just about a half inch past where the engine sucks it to. Something else?
