possible starter problem??help
#1
I have been suffering with a slow starting truck for a little while now. The problem drives me nuts but always starts on the first try. Two days ago in the morning I turned the key and nothing....not even a attempt to turn over. I then turned the key a few times and it started right up.
I thought it might have been the battery so I replaced it with a new one hoping it would solve the problem. But now it is consistantly taking two turns of the key to get it going.
Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this? Could it be the starter? the alternator? If you need more info please ask me and thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

It could be the starter that is going out on you.....or to be even more exact the relays inside the starter....do you get the click of the starter or just nothing at all. On the slow starting is it the starter that is turning slow or the eng that is just hard to crank over.....a quick check for that is pull the spark plugs out and try cranking it over, if it turns easier then the eng is hard to crank....if it does not then the starter is the culprit.....ps belts that have been over tightened can also make a eng a little harder to start.....

when it doesnt start i get nothing at all from the starter. sometimes it will turn once and stop like the battery was dead but im sure the battery is not the problem. then on the 2nd turn of the key it will start right up. Once the truck is started it runs like a dream.
also...could the problem be the spark plugs? they are also the origionals.
i'll try removing them like you suggested in the mornin.

You may have a loose connection in your wiring. Check the positive cable going to your starter for corrosion and the smaller one going to the solenoid. Sometimes they get loose and give you intermittent starting problems.

starter! look at roger browns site or go to the dealership and get a new set of contacts. Rogers site has a excellent description of the complete process

I found out that my car was still under the extended warranty and I tool her to the dealership. It was the starter (i'd guess the solenoid) but they replaced the entire starter for me. A front o2 sensor was also replaced.
They hit me up for a grand total of $800!!!!
But the co-pay on the warranty was only $70.
They also said I should clean the MAF and change the fuel filter. But the trucks running great.
Thanks for all the info.
